    gender is a social construct it is pretty simple to understand, but keep in mind many people in the US/EU are both poorly educated (no university, which is a problem when their secondary school is easier than our primary schools) and highly indoctrinated (involved in abrahamic cults, aka the faith-for-afterlife MLM "religion" you see spamming about jesus and moses) they often only speak a single language like english, so you will notice vast majority of their anti-trans arguments boil down to semantics or ad populum rather than anything related to actual the phenomenon under discussion 😂

    It’s like “I don’t see color” but for the LGBT. The danger of these views is dismissing the experience and struggle of the most marginalized groups like lesbians, gays, and transbinary, in favor of more privileged groups who many are LGBT appropriators thanks to Judith philosophy of diluting labels that refer to struggling marginalized groups on one hand, and letting the self-identifying machine works itself to create this current chaos within the LGBT communities. Queer doesn’t mean anything anymore.

    So much of modern ideology is just nonsense. If race is purely a social construct and not biological, then you'd expect two African Americans to give birth to Asian or white children. It's a ridiculous assertion.

    Capitalism also has created division with racism, and the African American People in this country of the US are as mentally ill as the black people that are colonized. Same thing, but in this country still today, white people especially can not see or don't want to see its effect it has had and still has on non-white people. We at this time all need mental help

    Said was a sophisticated charlatan who knew very little about 'Orientalism' when he wrote a book about it. Not a scholar - didn't read German the main language in which 19th century scholarly work about the 'Orient' was written. Just a hater of the West with nice suits, pampered by the West.

    The weakness you attribute to Althusser has been resonant to the extent that resistance has been deep and extensive. From a less 'optimistic' perspective, I would argue that actually most people don't resist, or even see through the ideological fog. This has become even more the case since Stuart Hall wrote. Even where opposition occurs now, it is very rarely fundamental.

    I read this in college and was indoctrinated into believing it as gospel. I don't think it is. I think a deeper look around history and economics may fill in many of the holes left by a comparative literature professor. Also comparing East Asian writings and impressions of the middle east would be essential to attempt to have some deductive rather than exclusively inductive reasoning. Said's worldview is one of the West vs. The East. Certainly a nice first step, but the East doesn't view itself this way. China views Palestinians very much as westerners. Europeans didn't believe anything about Arabs which Arabs didn't think about Africans or Chinese. Persians and Turks are Arabs all had the same stereotypes of each other. The narrow minded view of the west as colonizers and enemies of all "indigenous people" falls apart when you lose the Eurocentric perspective as your baseline.

    No, I do have a question and that is what would he have thought about Darwinism because Darwinism and social Darwinism and orientalism seem to come from the same backgrounds and the carry out the same aims so what would’ve Edward Saeed had to say about that?

  • @glennisholcomb592
    @glennisholcomb5922 ай бұрын

    I think I heard John Henry Clark tried to say the same thing that Edward Saeed kind of drew out about how orientalism from European standpoint, and from Arab standpoint are all about cultural domination. And the education in orientalism, and both fields are very much still alive.

    Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler - Albert Einstein. Yes, culture and traditions change from generation to generation - but as human beeings we are the result of biological evolution AND education. Both. IMHO
