Beyond The Briefing

Beyond The Briefing

This channel is about making your flying safer. Whether you fly a Piper Cherokee or a Gulfstream, understanding weather is vitally important to the successful outcome of any flight. One of the leading causes of fatal aviation accidents is weather. I'm a meteorologist with over 25 years of experience who happens to be a flight instructor and aircraft owner. We now have more technology and data than ever before, but are we maximizing it? This channel goes beyond the weather briefing and helps you use all of the tools at your disposal and gain a better understanding of their capabilities and limitations.

    Maybe you have a video of this already, but what is the actual impetus of fog? There are plenty of days in north Central Florida where the temp and dew point spread was 0 and no fog, just dew. Then there are other days that it’s surface fog (10 foot off the ground) and then some days it’s thick until 10am. What are some of the reasons or ways you could predict what you’ll be looking at in the morning?

    I highly recommend this video. Weather at the private pilot level is obviously not rocket science and a lot of people know their stuff, but this guy is pretty fantastic at explaining things really well and emphasizing what is important to know at the private pilot level. This will basically be all I plan to study on weather for my check ride.

    Thanks for the informative video. When navigating "semi-VFR" by looking for and diverting around rainshafts, how can you avoid flying under a cell which is developing but not yet mature? In the developing stage of the storm, there is no rain yet, correct? So isn't there a chance you could accidentally end up directly under it when it transitions from developing to mature?

  • @beyondthebriefing6668
    @beyondthebriefing66685 ай бұрын

    Great question. Part of the determination is looking not only at the rain shafts, but also looking at the vertical development of the clouds. If I can visualize it, I will try to fly under clouds that are less vertically developed. You're right the radar will only return precipitation.
