I don't think he won fairly. I watched this match, he wore ear buds the whole time and at one point his backgammon teacher came to the table and sat down by him and the tourney director made him move. I think he was sending Tommy proper move notation via Bluetooth. The match was a blowout. Tommy was playing a guy from Israel and destroyed him. Not even close. It was live from Monte Carlo and was the Intermediate bracket championship.

His opponent took a really bad re-double early on and played very poorly overall. He was also an 18 year old kid from Israel. Tommy didn't play great either and even made an illegal move at one point and got away with it. It's obvious that there isn't much competition in backgammon yet. They are hosting a tournament in Monte Carlo which only fairly wealthy people are going to be able to attend. They host other tournaments in places like Dubai which is just not something your average joe is going to be competing in. Most of the entrants were old rich retired folks.

While I find a lot of joy and pleasure in playing video games with some close friends (not in a room, but online), my fondest video game memories are actually being by myself and playing through the singleplayer campaign modes. Why do I play video games? I play video games because I want to experience them. I like being able to interact with what's happening visually on the screen and aurally in my ears; I like the humor and the emotion in the cutscenes; I like wondering where my character is gonna go next; I play many video games for their stories and narratives. Sam And Max, for example, is a hilarious game with a unique story and loveable characters. When it's not a narrative-based game, such as Minecraft, which is a sandbox game, I like letting my curiosity and creativity get the best of me, and I like building things (or attempting to!) and I like the feeling of constantly expanding my own little empire of a base. When it's not a sandbox game or a story-driven game, such as Pac-Man for instance, I like seeing how far I can go before losing all 3 of my lives. I guarantee YOU that the failed Intellivision Amico would have been NONE of those things. All the things that make video games fun, interesting, and captivating for me would just not be there. My memories of playing video games in a room full of other people are often stained by arguments, accusations of cheating, and ragequitting. Tommy's sneaky way of controlling the narrative in this regard is effective as a selling point, but beyond the mediocre middle-of-the-road podcast hosts who interview him and are complicit in his narrative, it thankfully falls on deaf ears.

It’s been established that he is a compulsive liar and a narcissist. It’s very hard for people like this to change. This is how they socialize; reasoned thought isn’t behind it. It’s as natural as an addict looking for a fix. Just keep on making things up, bigger and bigger. What you said yesterday doesn’t matter. He NEEDS to be "special", the "prodigy", because of his deep insecurities. A normal person would say "yeah, I love this game been playing for a long time" and it would be cool, but not him, he has to be the amazing prodigy, he has to feel special because he knows his only real talent is deceiving people into believing he has any talent at all. Living under the shadow of his actually talented and successful cousin really kills him.
