Dean wasn't really a BAD boyfreind, he was just too young to want so much out of Rory. He clearly put a lot inot the relationship because he really liked her. But it was just too much for how younf they were.

Remove the bullying and paranoia, and I identify a lot with Paris. Like how much pressure she puts on herself. Yes, it's exhausting.

S4 is my second favourite after S3, that is consider one of the best among fans. Had S4 developed a more solid main arc and Walsh had remained the big bad, it could have been the best.

I think it could have been excellent as well. Bold statement here but I think it just needed a few tweaks that would have made a huge difference in how people see this season. I personally love season 4.

I think it funny how Colin sees Penelope and has to take a drink...like his mouth has gone dry. He did it several times in S. 3. Don't know if he did in the first two seasons. He does when she first enters the ball in her new dress. He also does so when they are "practicing" in the Bridgerton drawing room.

The truth is the writers wanted us to hate Lindsay with the "I'm married, we're supposed to have fun" scene. Like I didn't realize how bad she was portrayed, when in reality, she wasn't a bad wife (because she wanted to make Dean happy), she's just immature. Dean, however, was not only marrying her with Rory on his mind (plus lurking on her life when everything was 'falling apart'), but also treating Lindsay so horrible (yelling, arguing, hitting things) which is clearly a sign of someone potentially violent. Even I don't understand how some people calls him "the best boy". I'm just glad Lindsay found out Rory's letter, because she clearly deserves better than these two.

I can't say I thought much about Riley. In Season 5, he's not terribly likeable (though had he been set up as being very likeable in season 4, that might have also changed) but he's just kind of . . . there. I really like the idea of him being nerdy. This show is very nerdy friendly. After all, Willow is a nerd, Xander is also somewhat of a nerd. And back in the day, William Pratt (aka, Spike) was a total awkward nerd. I like the idea of letting the audience (and the characters) get to know Riley before any romance begins. Also, the contrast that would have been to both his Initiative persona and to Buffy, as you pointed out, would definitely have added some interest. Also, having him be really into psychology could have added a lot to the group dynamic. LOVE the idea and now I'm sad that something like that didn't happen.

  • @PensiveWhiskers
    @PensiveWhiskers3 сағат бұрын

You're right! The show had an appreciation for nerdy personalities. I am personally a sucker for characters that have unknown layers, like Peter Parker/Spiderman, someone who seems uncoordinated but who is actually really skilled. There's a scene with Riley that I wish I included in this video, when Xander is split in two in season 5, Riley says something like "does anyone want to put them in separate rooms and do experiments on them? Just me then." It seems like that love for psychology would have fit so well for him.

Dean obviously married Lindsay while he was still hung up on Rory, It may be an Unconscious way to overcome his heartbreak. And later when Rory was in college and no longer with Jess, his friendship with Rory probably revived his feelings for her, which made him acting like a jerk towards his wife.. So in other words, it's relevant if she wanted to be housewife or the big house, she thought she's in a real relationship, he probably saw it as a give and take, I provide to you, and you do as I say and want, So this marriage was doomed to fall apart

I hated April when she was used to end Lorelai and Luke’s relationship, mostly bc I never shipped them and the show made such a big deal about them getting together that I hated having it end for such a lame reason. On rewatch I liked April herself a lot more though because I realized she was an individual character and not a Rory clone plot device

I have recently discovered your channel and I am in love of all your Gilmore's Girls' videos❤❤. Have you thought about doing one about the critics fans usually make about Lorelai and Rory? I think that can be interesting talking about the sexism in the show or the way they talk or portrayed the other girls in the show.

I honestly found dean to be the best boyfriend and Rory just didn’t like him anymore so she continued to string him along until she couldn’t handle cheating on him anymore and then tried to make him seem like a clingy controlling boyfriend when in reality she was genuinely just cheating but didn’t want him to be with anyone else. They weren’t my favorite ship but I will always defend Dean!!

I always think that Paris is the only friend in that situation, Rory in my opinion wasn't a friend to Paris but as you said she may pitted her or treated her out of how she was raised to be the nice girl in terms of treating people. Paris has one of the best character development in this series. I love her.

I kinda see it because she wants Lorelei to have things she didn’t have explains why Richard’s mom didn’t approve of Emily. But I also can feel like they both met at Yale that she had some money but wasn’t old money but new money which can explain another reason why Richard’s mom didn’t approve of Emily .

Dean loved her too much. He was addlepated with adoration and willing to do absolutely anything for her. This becomes Rory's baseline: A boyfriend happy to make any and all sacrifices she asks for, without her feeling much in return. But this is boring, she gets everything she wants with no need for work or reciprocation, she doesn't understand how burdensome her demands are, and it's lonely up on the pedestal Dean has put her on. Jess is the opposite of Dean, but only on the outside. Therein lies his appeal to Rory. He is dismissive, neggy, and sarcastic. Rory, used to being favored, goes bonkers trying to get Jess to join the Rory fan club. She doesn't understand her need to get him to like her, and mistakes that drive for being attracted to him, rather than a pathological need to be liked by everyone. But, Jess is similar to Dean in that he likes Rory a lot more than she likes him, and he is another boyfriend willing to sacrifice a lot to suit her wishes. So it's a bit of Dean repeat, with Rory up on a pedestal, receiving things. The main difference is that Dean is proactive, trying to preemptively meet Rory's needs before she has them, while Jess requires Rory to ask and push before he caves, which requires her to participate a little more. Then comes Logan. Logan is the emotionally appropriate boyfriend Rory should have had first, since he has the healthiest boundaries. He doesn't idolize her and is able to relate as both her economic and intellectual equal (and perhaps superior, since Logan has money, but Rory's grandparents do, not her). But Rory is now used to the status quo being herself in the superior position, and on the receiving end of all effort. She tends to feel attacked when Logan calls her out on things Dean or Jess would let slide, and resents the amount of effort she has to put in, only to not receive total adoration in return. Rory is at her best in the Logan relationship when she is being "performative", and putting on the show of being a trophy girlfriend. She crashes and burns when Logan basically treats her the way she treated Dean/ Jess.

I found your analysis interesting but surprisingly I didn't really agree with most of it for one main reason - I felt like Rory as a character has a "oh this happened to me, I'll just roll with it" attitude. It doesn't make a ton of sense to me that Rory would actually become friends with Paris past the point of self preservation, except for the fact that Rory doesn't really ever fight for stuff or push herself to become a better person. She never bothers to become friends with anyone else, she just grudgingly accepts and then chooses to bond with the only friend thrust upon her. I also think Rory was nice to Paris because A) Rory generally tries to be a nice person or thinks of herself as a nice person, and B) Rory doesn't like it when other people dislike her. She's definitely non confrontational and that plays a factor. However, I don't ever actually see Rory LIKING Paris except that she's sort of settled for whatever their friendship looks like and she needs someone too. So eventually Paris just does the trick for her. Their relationship was actually one of the first times i got genuinely frustrated with Rory's character because it showed such a lack of growth or self motivation on Rory's part. For a long time you can tell she's trying to be nice, she genuinely cares about Paris as a human, but she also genuinely doesn't like her/is annoyed by her but sets zero boundaries. Rory could have shown so much growth in college if she didn't let their relationship limit her entire college experience.... just my two cents, interesting perspective in your video though!

Rory is also very understanding and open-minded person when it comes to friends. She's been living her whole life in Stars Hollow where everyone is a little crazy and Lorelai teaches her from her young age that each of those people have some good insight and it's actually possible to be friendly with many types of people 😊

I don’t like their relationship not because it’s badly written, but because it’s too well written. Friends you thought the world of as a kid just kind of drift away. No fanfare, no big fight, you just stop being close, especially when you’re the one putting in all the effort to keep it going like Lane until you decide to stop watering dead plants. I’m in this picture and I don’t like it 😭

I feel as Tristan's behaviour sometimes just resambles an orphaned child. He is mentioned to have many girlfriends, similarily as Logan. But there is a harsher dynamic going on there. It's like he is hungry for love, because he doesn't get it. With Logan it seems just more pleasure.

I think Paris sees it more strategically. She knows Rory has attributes she doesn’t and is good competition to learn from. Also Rory having similar interests helps so she leans to Rory esp on college. It’s a combo of liking Rory personality and knowing she needs a friend so she latches to her for career school reasons and personal reasons

I always felt so bad for Lindsay. Dean was 100% in the wrong for almost everything we see of their relationship and marriage, and every time I see the scenes with Lindsay waiting up for Dean to come home (after he cheats on her!) or her at the butcher trying to make his favorite meal just to try and salvage something in their marriage, my heart breaks. I don't think she deserved what she got, especially as she was so young and didn't really know better. Also, somewhat unrelated to the rest of my comment, but I find it interesting that no one ever seems to bring up the idea that maybe Lindsay doesn't have a job because she can't. I've always wondered if maybe she had trouble finding a job or for some reason just couldn't work. Maybe she wanted a job, but Dean or her parents didn't want her to. It's weird that no one seems to think of this, because it always felt like a real possibility to me.
