Taiga Tradesman

Welcome to Taiga Tradesman! We're Tim and Brittani, a married couple who love to travel and have a passion for projects. We are on the pursuit of living intentionally, with less. Our latest project is renovating an old ambulance into our first ever tiny home!!! We are documenting the entire renovation, from start to finish, and would love if you would follow along :)

I've got a complete wall unit to get out so I can rebuild the wall on that side. It seems a nightmare trying to get all the screws and bolts to get the modular metal cabinets out.. 🤬

Now I fully understand why folks say when you do your first Ambo build the absolute first thing you should do is gut it completely before trying to design your plans with final results in mind. And also why your plans change a thousand times before you actually say "Yes! Now I'm ready for the road!"😅 Shoot mine already changed a half a dozen times in a matter of minutes of watching, I can only imagine what I'd be like on my own actual build 😂 Happy trails folks, stay safe and well out there 💜 🤙

How did you guys get to the bolts for the light bar? Do you have to access it from the back? Or can you take the lens off the front and access the bolts from the front?

It looks like you have the same build that we just bought! I am currently trying to remove the rear upper driver's side cabinets and I have no idea what is holding them in! I have removed all trim, screws, and two bolts and they are still rock solid. Do you remember how you got yours out in one piece?

I also have what looks to be the same box in the video and am also having trouble with the drivers side cabinets. Do you by chance remember how you got yours loose?

My favorite part is how you both allow the work to proceed as the job reveals it self and show you what it wants. And you are each smart enough to listen. This is one of the MOST important aspects of skill development and trade knowledge. Takes years and years to refine. Thank you.

We're thinking about converting an ambulance. Loving these videos. Pretty sure the grinders have cooling fans but those fans only work while running so just run it without cutting and it will cool itself off and like my dad used to say let the grinder do the work instead of forcing it. I'm binge watching these

Nice job but I think you missed a good opportunity, should have cut and welded. Now you have plates just sticking out like sore thumbs that aren't remotely flush to the rest of the cab. Cut, weld, grind, smooth, looks brand new. Or at least put them on the inside and just bondo the outside so it looked flush lol. Maybe I'm just a little more OCD. Regardless, nice work!

So happy to find another conversion team! Please check out our nonprofit and how our missions align. Be very interested to see if you’d like to join us near Joshua Tree for a major ambulance renovation festival event to support our nonprofit. We are planning to host the event each year.

Hello, May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Also, can I share Isaiah 53:5 " But HE was WOUNDED For our TRANSGRESSIONS, he was BRUISED for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His STRIPES we are HEALED." God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin. Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today & please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?

Great work guys and I liked seeing that pneumatic nail riveter (I'll need to get one). If I can recommend one thing: next time you're doing something repetitive with many steps try to do only one step at a time for all the locations so for example: remove ALL light fixtures, sand all surfaces, align all plates to mark holes, drill all holes, etc... Doing this will cut the time it takes you and increase craftsmanship because you'll get the hang of whatever step you're doing instead of having to start/stop and change tools dozens of times. Search "the essential craftsman how to be more productive", he's got a great video that shows this. It's made a huge difference in my workflow. It seems obvious after you see it in action but it's not something that humans do intuitively.

I'm putting tropicool on the inside of the ambulance. Helps with sound deadening, vapor barrier and installing. Will apply tropicool and Havelock wool before it dries to keep it from sagging under gravity.

Hmmm? Let's look at this and see what we can reuse in here. (5 minutes later)Oh, nothing. We can build something better than that professional coach manufacture did, even though we hav 5 minutes experience looking at it and they have 40 years of fabrication. Yep, let's rip it all out. That makes sense?

The metal plates on the floor are called cot plates. I remount ambulances and sometimes we have to drill out the bolts to the plates. They are usually 3/8 of an inch so if this is still an issue use a 3/8 drill bit to remove the bolt. It does take a while to drill them though. Don’t forget to caulk the holes in the floor also!

I have a few questions about those plates. How much weight are the suppose to support? Can the be reused as tie downs to secure cargo?
