I love this. I’m currently finishing a book on grief and have considered writing a second one on using different arts to help on the grief journey. When you’re grieving one of the hardest things to do is to pick up some thing new and take your already fragile self into a situation where you might feel vulnerable yet when you create something, when you take that time to create something, you lose yourself in the art and it gives your mind a rest from the grieving. My husband passed almost 18 months ago from cancer

They say there is an epidemic of loneliness in the US, and you have found a cure. My grandmother took an art class after her husband died, and she truly became a painter. When she became blind, she worked with clay. Now I am as old as she was, and you’re right - creativity just wants to come out.

I have a similar story. In 2009 my mother died just a few short years after my father preceded by my only sibling one year earlier. I was in a very deep grief induced depression and I decided I needed something totally different from anything I’ve ever done. I started painting and haven’t quit. It is very healing to the soul.

I turned 60 a few months ago and joined the local SAGE center for gay seniors. I grew up in a family of artists, one sisters became a tattoo artist (owning her own shop for years) and the other sister is an oil painter. My dad was a draftsmen, and my mother loved drawing as well. I could only draw stick figures. Even though I had been doing sewing and woodworking for 40 years, I never considered myself an artist, because I couldn’t draw (like them). In the last 6 months, I have really enjoyed the variety of painting, poetry and collage classes I have taken at the senior center. Blank pages have gotten way less intimidating.

Here's mine:- [Heb 9:11-14 NLT] 11 So Christ has now become the High Priest over all the good things that have come. He has entered that greater, more perfect Tabernacle in heaven, which was not made by human hands and is not part of this created world. 12 With his own blood--not the blood of goats and calves--he entered the Most Holy Place once for all time and secured our redemption forever. 13 Under the old system, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow could cleanse people's bodies from ceremonial impurity. 14 Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.

July 2023 I fell and broke 2 bones in my dominant right hand wrist. All my 54 years, I'd never broken a bone in my life. I didn't realize while in cast you need to move your fingers. I had surgery for one bone but being in the cast longer than normal, my fingers became very very stiff. That was worse than the broken bone. I got very, very depressed and suicidal. I've made crafts since 12 yrs old. I made rosaries and sold them. I sold half of my art supplies and gave a friend the rest. My hand is getting a little better. Then I finally wanted to create art again. I just can't help it. I guess it's just in my genes. I purchased more items and started it again. I don't know if I can make a rosary yet having to bend chains but I'll give it a try. Thank you for posting this. I wish the story were longer and showed more of you creating your art.

@@kahanipictures I wish these stories were turned into movies. I saw a story about a Chinese family in the U.S. who back in the 40s couldn't find anyone to rent from due to racism Finally A black family rented a house to them. When the Chinese family started a business and became wealthy they donated over a million dollars to the black community These families stayed friend for a lifetime. That would be a great movie!
