  The 105 canon was flown from hill top to hill top in Vietnam by helicopter to support infantry. It’s a do all artillery piece very mobile and can shoot down drones with its anti personnel munitions (big shot gun).

  Automating these would make them even better. They could add a mag of 20 shots on top, loaded by gravity and a piston, and it would just retreat back to be reloaded by a human. Like a small version of a naval canon, and put on top of a milrem robotics type X unmanned tank

  Another benefit to such low profile system is its lower signature, both visual, noise, and heat. Not to mention the smaller crew, leading to smaller movement to where they operate. Being spotted is a death sentence especially now that the airspace is saturated with drones.

  I got one. But outside of being an icon, it has no real use. I wouldn’t want to use it in combat. In this day and age, it is best used for hobbits and off-roaders. There are much better light weight vehicles out there for combat.

  Why do I always see mobile artillery firing with the turret sideways (on the 3/9 o' clock)?? Why not fire directly in line with the direction your vehicle is pointing so it minimizes the rocking action?

  Probably because a massive cannon going off right next to the glass windscreen might not be ideal. That's just what I think. I don't know though

  @@RR-us2kp they have shielding that covers the glass during firing operations and that Barrel is a good distance from the cab but you might be right however I would figure then to swing it around back

  its good, but minding the "Tulip" mortar of the Russians, would i recommend to switch from 105mm Howitzer to a 120mm Mortar and maybe even with a revolver loading system so you can drop various shots at one point before you leave the are again

  Self propelled mortars have been around since the Cold War. Many countries have internally mounted mortars in M117s.

  These are becoming quite important, with squad level drones reducing kill chains substantially. Small units are going to need self propelled artillery which is very intimate

  Watched the video of the other clip and it would be way more compelling to have a second video insert showing the rounds impacting "near" a target. Launching the rounds is easy. Hitting the target is the hard, and important, part, just sayin.

  AM General, a 105mm cannon and a HMMWV really don’t belong together. This combination just makes the vehicle a ripe target for a drone strike. I’m pretty sure that cannon weighs more than the 800lb allowable cargo weight for that vehicle. Also, where’s the ammo & powder going to go? It would probably be best to sell an improved 105mm gun that’s towed behind an MRAP, rather than an overweight, rear axle heavy, 30 year old design with no up-armor kit that every member of the US Army knows is the best way to get killed by an IED.

  @@sussy9278 I did work on 155mm artillery systems and drove a ton of Humvee vehicles, and a bunch of others. So yeah I know a lot about the subject because I did work on them.

  I doubt you worked on 155 arty. This system has been around for a decade. The fact that you think it can’t work on a number says a lot about out your supposed knowledge base.
