Nothing better than a well-thought-out lead guitar portion they don't have to include every damn note. This is a perfect lead right here .

Mike Leander worked, amongst other projects on the Beatles Sergeant Pepper. He created the Hey song or Rock and Roll playing all instruments. He needed a front man and could have chosen from a number of Elvis impersonators to front his project. The glitter stomp sound is entirely his. Unfortunately Paul Gadd was a paeddophile, a poor choice. Leander died before Gadd/Glitter was convicted of his crimes. The two drummer format, distorted guitars clearly influenced some Fall songs. Sad piece of history really but worth remembering Mike Leander for his contribution to modern music

I just listened to this album after belatedly discovering this upload, and I really liked it. I've been dipping into 'The Acid Archives' vinyl community project and really enjoying that, and this band has some of that throw-back quality. Just a couple mentions of albums I've liked from this year so far are the latest by Vampire Weekend, and Loophole by Michael Head & the Red Elastic Band, which has itself sprung open a rabbit hole of other bands of his. Hope things are going reasonably well at your end and thanks (again belatedly) for this upload.

This band released two albums on the same day in 2023 I just recently learned from, I believe Vinyl Voyage, and I listened to "Sea of Mirrors" and really dug it. I also like the spaghetti westernish sound of this track, and I see another rabbit hole coming. Another one for me to file in 'better late than never'; an ever-growing list. Great upload.

The lyrics are made up words. It's a Scottish folk tradition and they can't be recreated. They don't mean anything and she's brilliant. Thanks for the reaction.

Thanks for reacting to Billys music. I have met him a couple of times after gigs and he has a way of making you feel that you're the one making the consert grear. Quite unusual and very comforting. Brilliant poet. Thanks again!

I think the lyric is Clovius Hoofus - ie the cloven hooved one- ie the devil. I think safesurfer is the man promising to withdraw before ejaculation, but the man, the father, the devilish one is not to be trusted, because the sperm to make Julian, the Welsh-born [ie sheep boy] will come exploding out his father’s penis as a cruel seed, the old roue posing as the well endowed flirt [Donkey Kong/Don Quixote], who once could pose as distingué until parenthood brought him down, meaning that the last irresponsible act [the swan song] was impregnating Julian’s mother.

This was released in 1979, from Wire's 3rd album 154. Their debut album released in 1977, Pink Flag, already sounded like post punk. Their follow up, Chairs Missing released in 1978 is still one of my all time favourite albums. Try out the track Mercy from that album, over 5 minutes of sonic brilliance.

It’s kind of buried away at the end of the LP, but I think it’s one of their top 5 tracks, it’s absolutely sublime and I remember thinking exactly that in 94 when they released it to an underwhelming reaction, which was due to many factors already mentioned in the comments, along with the fact that they snubbed the mainstream media and gave their comeback interview exclusively to a magazine dedicated to the homeless, sold by homeless people, ‘the big issue’. I don’t think that played well with the big music publications.

I love the drumming on this. Phil Selway is often criminally overlooked as a drummer. In this song the drums at the end are a failing heartbeat and the sound of blood rushing in the ears until the heart stops an consciousness fades away.
