Living Zoology

Living Zoology

We are Matej and Zuzana, welcome to Living Zoology KZread channel! We both studied zoology (Zuzana has a master's degree and Matej has a Ph.D.) and we produce wildlife documentary films about life of wild animals, zoological research and ecological problems. Our main specialization is filming wild venomous and non-venomous snakes. The main goal is to inform about snake natural history, human-snake conflict around the world and many other topics connected with these reptiles. We already organized many expeditions to tropical regions of the world with the aim to find and film snakes. For example, we worked in Uganda, South Africa, Kenya, India, Indonesia, USA, Australia, Peru or Costa Rica. Apart from videos we also present wildlife photography. If you want to support us in our work, feel free to contact us!!!

    I respect wildlife and I don’t go looking to interact with them, but I am also a realist. If a dangerous animal, like a rattlesnake, invades my habitat, I will kill it and not shed a tear. It is simply the law of nature. They don’t want me to mess with them, and want me to just go away. I feel the same towards them.

    If you cross paths with a rattlesnake, the first thing to do is not panic. Quick, jerky movements make them very nervous and if you hear a rattle, but don’t know precisely where it is, jumping “away” might take you right next to it due to the echoing effect of the canyons they inhabit. Remain calm, remain still until you see where the snake is. Then slowly move away from it. If you stepped on it or directly next to it, you would have already been bitten. They rattle to keep large predators away and they won’t wait until you are too close before they rattle. Be sure to look around carefully in case there are others in the area. While not entirely social, where there is one, there may be more because it is an indication that the area has shelter or available prey. Either way, be cautious.

    What you wrote is a good way how to avoid getting bitten 🙂 Staying calm is the most important thing together with doing slow movements.

    We saw a lot of barbamarilla or Equis as they are called in the jungle of Panama. We were doing copper exploration at the Cobre panama mine in 1993-1995. My helpers feared them greatly and those we ran into they usually killed. On my last day of field work there we were in a creek in waist deep water when an Equis approached us. It did not seem to fear us and all of us while backing away furiously were screaming like 12 year girls. Myself included........

    As an American, one of the things about a Taipan that is concerning is that if I saw a snake like it here, I wouldn't be afraid. Because in a way, it looks a lot like a non-venomous snake because it's head looks round and smooth. Yet it really is the most deadly snake in the entire world.

  • @LivingZoology
    @LivingZoology2 күн бұрын

    It is the most venomous snake in the world, not the most deadly. This species is quite calm and lives very far away from people.

    Pero las hyenas tambien cazan bufalos con frecuencia y no necesariamente enfermos y viejos, creo que los documentales nos vendieron la idea que los unicos que cazan y comen bufalos son los leones pero es mentira, las hienas hasta matan bufalos mas de seguido y tienen mas exito al cazarlos
