The Eastern diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus adamanteus) is the largest rattlesnake species and one of the largest vipers in the world. We always wanted to film this majestic venomous snake in the wild. Eastern diamondback rattlesnakes have long fangs and their toxic venom can kill a human. However, they will only be dangerous to people if they feel threatened. In 2022 we traveled to Florida and searched for deadly venomous rattlesnakes with our friend David Wojnowski. During our search for the main target species we found some other super cool snakes, like the Florida cottonmouth or the Eastern copperhead! Join us on the trail of the largest rattlesnake in the world! We filmed 11 species of snakes, so be ready for an adventure full of snake encounters!
Species found:
Pygmy rattlesnake (Sistrurus miliarius)
Florida cottonmouth (Agkistrodon conanti)
Scarlet kingsnake (Lampropeltis elapsoides)
Eastern ribbon snake (Thamnophis saurita)
Rough green snake (Opheodrys aestivus)
Smooth earth snake (Virginia valeriae)
Redbelly snake (Storeria occipitomaculata)
Eastern copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix)
Eastern racer (Coluber constrictor)
Eastern diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus adamanteus)
Southern water snake (Nerodia fasciata)

Here in Australia I don't think I've ever seen a professional snake catcher use the tongs, only my ex-employer who is not professionally trained. It's suggested that it's easy to injure the snake with tongs, or at the very least, piss it off and thus increase the chance of getting tagged. It was kind of odd that guy invited the group of you on to his property then his daughter says he's shot 2 of them 🤔 Good doco though, glad you found the EDB 👍

  • @LivingZoology

    @LivingZoology

    4 ай бұрын

There are different types of tongs. We only use gentle tongs, which have rubber on them and they are wide. When people doubt these tongs we tell them that we will show them that it is not possible to hurt the snake. We catch the finger of the person with these tongs and use maximum power. They are very surprised that it does not hurt! Our goal is to work very gently with snakes and gentle tongs are great for that. Of course the narrow, completely metal tongs are dangerous and can hurt snakes. Yes, it was a bit weird at the beginning but we tried to do our best and educate those young girls. Maybe they don't want to shoot snakes but they don't know what to do when they have venomous snakes in their garden where kids are playing. We did not check if there is any snake rescuer around...Thank you for watching!

But none the less they are an amazing species and deserves to live like amy other dangerous animals, they just need their space lol I understand how uneducated people look at them how they do but i feel alot of that can be changed with proper education and Awesome videos like this

Sincerely apologize for 3 posts...few productions are worthy of my time or feedback...HOWEVER, I was thoroughly impressed with both of you and the quality of your work. As a NATIVE FLORIDEAN and someone that has slept in tents while camping in different placed primarily South Florida...to say your accomodations were less than luxurious or even bareable is a stretch. In Florida or most places in the South during the Summer time....forget about packing a jar of Peanut Butter for PB&J sandwiches because the heat turns the Peanut Butter into a disgusting jar of liquidity mess....the heat and more so the humidity and the insects makes sleeping in a tent almost impossible. When I was a kid, none of the houses we lived in had air conditioning....and that was in Miami and South of Miami in Homestead...Truly miserable and I was a kid...teenager...You guys earned my subscription ....like I said in prior posts. If ever back in the States, my wife, who is Russian, she came to the US in 1989 and her mother still lives in Minsk, Belarus would probably be able to talk to you guys for days none stop... Anycase, feel free to reach out, or email if make it back.... although we are older than you guys I think we can still keep up...only issue for me is my wife is more of a Ritz Carlton lady than a Columbia or Northface person...However, she did miss being struck by a copperhead by a nanometer this past summer....She's not a big fan of snakes...or many creatures other than domesticated dogs... Safe travels and take care...

Did anyone immediately able to to ID the snake @ 0:30...the beginning???....That is a small snake but depending on how the colored bands are arranged on the snake provides the answer whether the small reptile is considered a harmless, even docile snake that a person could pick up without issue....HOWEVER, if you made a mistake with respect the colored bands if you picked the smalm snake up by hand would likely result in you being bitten....if the snake injected venom into you, unless you were able to be administered antivenom within 15-30 minutes (depending on several factors) would result in you ceasing to exists... The Eastern Diamond, The CaneBrake or Timber Rattler, the Copperhead and the Water Mocassin aka CottonMouth are also prevelant in Alabama...including in the suburbia of Birmingham... I have crossed paths with each of these almost every Spring, Summer and Fall,...even this time of year...the nights when temps drop into the 40s or even 30s most think threat of snakes are over...NOT TRUE... They will leave their borough or wherever they are once the temp reaches the low to mid 60s if the sun is out...not as prevelant as when it's in the 80s but they are sill around...The first snake I referred to at the 30 second mark...the NON-VENOMOUS ONE is occassionally seen around my area in North Central AL but I have never personally seen one and I'm old....I've had Rat Snakes sneak into my house and give me quite a scare after I left frenchdoors open during a nice fall day to my man cave area...I guess it slithered in when I was in another room downstairs....but more often, there will be 1-2 babies under the couch or in a corner behind pet toys for example....I've had tiny ring snakes, common brown water snakes, garter snakes in addition to the venomous ones I mentioned...The Snake I was referring to at the 30 second mark...is it a Venomous Coral Snake or a harmless King Snake....Growing up I was taught a rhyme...RED TOUCHES YELLOW WILL KILL A FELLOW; RED TOUCHES BLACK FRIEND OF JACK (although my name is not Jack)...THAT RHYME IS NOT WORTH RISKING YOUR LIFE OVER BECAUSE IT'S NOT ALWAYS ACCURATE...For the South, the best way to tell is a Coarl Snake will have a Black Snout and it's tail will not have any RED bands...just BLACK AND YELLOW...NO RED...WHEREAS the Scarlet King Snake will have a Red snout with a black patch on top of it's head and the tricolored banding including yellow will continue to the end of it's tail...SO, from what I saw of the snake @ the 30 second mark WOULD NOT BE A CORAL SNAKE....but, i would never take a chance with it by handling by hand....nor would I dispatch it as I had to do with a large Eastern Diamondback and a Timber Rattler and numerous Copperheads, and Mocassins....There is nothing quite as majestic as a large EASTERN DIAMONDBACK...The largest RATTLESNAKE IN THE UNITED STATES
