    I own several black powder rifles and pistols I make my own black powder so have a unlimited supply of it so for shtf I would be grabbing my .50 caliber flintlock Hawkens

    A ky rifle is 8 bs, while a silenced, scoped Marlin Papoose, with 6" barrel, so all 22lr ammo is subsonic, and a retractable buttstock, weighs 6 lbs. The 11 lbs of ky rifle and enough powder and shot to fire it 100x, or the silencer, scope, rapidfire and 600 rds of subsonic 22lr for the same weigh and a LOT less bulk? that's a no-brainer . Much more reliability with the 22lr, no corrosion, no filth to have to clean up with each shot. Yu're either flat out nuts or trying to sucker people into such bs, so you can prey upon them with safety. post sht.

    where will you get the SULPHUR to make black powder? BP is expensive and you need a LOT of it i a muzzleloading rifle, 70 grs or more per shot. 7000 gs in a lb 100 shots per lb.. A .45 round ball is 140 grs, so 50 of them per lb. 3 lbs for 50 shots. 3 lbs of 45 gr Federal subsonic 22lr ammo is 350 shots, the muzzleloader is corrosive, covers your target with smoke, reveals your position, takes 30 seconds to reload, is very noisy, very flashy at night, often draws enough moisture to missfire, neads a lot of work and luck to pull that failed charge. The 22lr autoloding rifle, with a silencer, is lethal to just as far as the Ky rifle, offers 6 its per second, and if you know to hold-shut the 22's bolt, you wont hear it at 50 FEET.

    you're out of your MIND. shtf is going to mean COMBAT. 99% of the population will be dead in a year, the animals will all have been eaten within 90 days and then the cannibalism will start in-earnest. Think I'm mistaken or kidding? I"m not. You ca'nt be out and about in daylight if shtf. You can't make noise, you can't show a light at night. You can't be without plenty of rapidfire.and at least concealable armor. You need night sights on your guns and you need at least some sort of night vision. You need to scatter-bury a year's supply of food at your BOL and have seeds for later. When, not if, shtf, dig a tunnel and stay in it for a year, coming out only at night and only for an hour, to access a food bucket and cook a mean. Have the first 90 days of food not require cooking and until then, dont have food in your tunnel, because of dogs.

    A flintlock is good, but it requires time resources and effort to learn how to properly shape flints. If you already have a cap lock it might be better to go all in with that system and learn how to make primers and such.

    You might have some wood in the lock mortise that is interfering with the way the lock works. Take the lock out of the gun and look closely at the wood in the lock mortise and look for shiney spots where the lock is rubbing on the wood. Sand or scrape that shiney spot away and try the lock again. Thanks for the video.

    Hard to clean? Not really. Hard to disassemble? Yes, they are. Besides, whos "cleaning" them? Unless you drop it in a sandpit or a swamp they never really need cleaning beyond an external wipe-down and a few drops of oil dripped into the open chamber and then work the action back and forth a few times. There is no real need to disassemble it.

    Most reproduction flintlocks suck because the geometry is off. The only fix is a replacement lock if it will fit. If the touch hole and the pan dont line up then you might as well go to a semi custom kit. As for that TC 56 smooth bore. Its a poor club and not much more. Too heavy to use as a shotgun.

    👍 archery is the way to go in a shtf in my opinion. Unless you are planning on fighting people but then you are losing already. I can take my recurve with me and in 10 years still be taking down deer. A firearm how many rounds can you take it will run out. And most importantly the sound in a SHTF with desperate starving people I really don’t want to be giving away my location or tipping people off that I may have just got food.

    I know this vid is 3 years old but I believe I can weigh in on the topic. Having been on the country homestead now going on 3 years, I can tell you that redundancy (backups) to all critical systems is a must. Ie .. I can heat my cabin using 4 different methods. Hawken style muzzleloaders are protected under the "antique firearms" law. That means when the feds come to collect all those nice little AR style rifles, which most of you will hand over willingly, you better have something else to get you by. Furthermore, I can feasibly see our commie in chief going after all cartridge style firearms in lieu of recent events (Canada is already trying). If it happens, you had better have some that are off the books .... or something that was never on the books to begin with. Something off the books which has a specific law protecting it from ATF authority is even better ... like the traditional muzzleloaders and replicas. Furthermore, a backup to that should also be in your bag of tricks ... a good recurve bow for example. Practice with it now before you need to use it.

  • @SwampOperator

    Guys like you are always projecting. " which.most of you will hand over willingly ". What you really mean is thst YOU will do it. But you need to make yourself feel better . Illinois just proved that almost all Americans wont surrender or even register their guns. And i love how you act like your muzzleloader is protected under federal law and the "shiny little ar15 " isnt. Sit down my guy... its okay if compliance is your thing. But stop acting like the rest of us dont have a backbone

    For those with gunsmithing skill or the $$$ to hire one, a modern version of the Neeedle Rifle would be ideal. If my eyes had not failed me ending my career as a machinist I would have chosen a modified Chassepot designfiring a load consisting of two or three pelletized powder grains held together with a nitrocellulose based glue and to hold the bullet. Such a glue would also make the cartridge stiffer and water proof

    I work at a gun shop. Just picked this up a couple days ago for 350 out the door. My price of course. Its a great rifle for beginners, or for a build. Timney trigger drop in, replace handguards with magpul or odin works so you can mount accessories and its a great starter. Save up a few bucks and replace the BCG, and roll with. As a vet of iraq and afghanistan using a M4, i can say Anderson is really good for the price 👍

    Can use steel shot on that gun ?

  • @garyshriver9456
    @garyshriver94566 ай бұрын

    You could. However the steel shot against a steel barrel would be very hard on the barrel. If you perhaps used a 28ga plastic shotgun wad for the steel shot that would “help” protect from steel against steel damage. Also, possibly a Mylar wrap could be used inside the the wad to protect even more. I used this method years ago when reloading 10ga waterfowl loads when loading with non toxic tungsten heavy shot. Albeit, the Mylar wrapping would be challenging without having a hull to contain it but I suppose it could still be accomplished with some creative tinkering. Hope this helps a mite.

    I am a retired police officer and just bought one exactly like this and have now mated it with my STAR BM. Turns into a great combination for me. It had the rear sight removed and an optical sight in its place. I called Hi-Point and told them what I needed. They sent a complete new rear sight, a sling, sling swivels and wrench at no charge to me at all. I would not feel under gunned at all to use my Hi-Point and STAR BM for law enforcement or security work. After mounting the new items on my Hi-Point I took it out to a drainage ditch and test- fired it. It failed to feed once but after clearing it, the gun functioned flawlessly from then on.

    I just bought one because it's such an eccentric little rifle. It feels good in the hands, and it's reliable enough, and it's much less expensive than the MX4 it was sitting right next to on the rack. With me living in Washington as well, where you can't buy large magazines, the 10 round hi point mags are easy to get. Overall a good choice if you're into the weird stuff:)
