    Thermals! Just cheap Walmart fleecy ones are great: socks, t-shirt, leggings. And a GOOD rich face moisturizer as the air is so dry. Also, your hair goes dry and brittle. I wish I had brought some good conditioner or mask because my hair was so flyaway.

I go out weekly with the Humpbacks on the Gold Coast when on migration up the east coast of Australia, looking forward to seeing them at home..... and all the ice and the penguins, birds, seals and hopefully other whales (Orca, Minkey, which only rarely get up our way). Didn't expect to find such a high quality video. Well done!

    Did they kayak to port lockrey ?

  • @destinationeverywhereUSA
    @destinationeverywhereUSA7 ай бұрын

    Not on this cruise. We weren't near there. The kayaking happens depending on the weather and sometimes the ice is so bad that the ship cannot go to the planned destinations. I am sure on other cruises they kayak there, but you can never guarantee anything due to the changeable weather. The ships have a Plan B, C and D!

    Enjoyable & informative video series. I'm looking into a future Antarctica expedition cruise I noticed in your video you got changed for off ship excursion in your room. Was that just "for show" and does the ship have a mudroom or do you actually have to change in and out of "off ship" clothing in your room? From my KZread research, it seems that selecting a ship with a mudroom is important because the clothes can be wet and damp and if you have to hang them in your room to dry out, the room can get musty. I was really interested in doing a snorkel excursion, but from what I can see, it doesn't look like Hurtigruten offers this on their cruise...

  • @destinationeverywhereUSA
    @destinationeverywhereUSA8 ай бұрын

    Hi John, We had to get changed in our room just like I demonstrated, and there are a LOT of layers. The boots are the most cumbersome. When you come back on the ship, you wash your boots in the disinfectant. Hurtigruten gives you a big red waterproof jacket so you really don't get wet. Actually, the only time we did have wet clothes was when we (foolishly!) did the polar bear plunge and swam in the sea. We hung our clothes in the bathroom and the ship has heating so it was never musty at all. The only excursions that are extra on the ship are kayaking and camping on the ice; everything else is included. I have never heard of snorkeling on any cruise line, it's toooo cold!! I hope this helps. Mandy

  • @johnR_TravelDiver
    @johnR_TravelDiver8 ай бұрын

    @@destinationeverywhereUSA Thanks. I learned that snorkeling is only offered on Aurora cruises (for extra charge) and specific diving/snorkeling cruises (much smaller ships)

    I have heard this cruise carries about 400 passengers and only few can get down on zodiacs at the landings. Is that true?

  • @destinationeverywhereUSA
    @destinationeverywhereUSA9 ай бұрын

    Hello, No, that it is not true. There are about 400 - 500 passengers on a Hurtigruten cruise and there is room for ALL passengers on the zodiacs. We were put into different groups and each group is called down to the zodiacs at different times. Our group went out at, let's say, 10 am and the next group went out at 10.30 am and the next at 11 am. We stayed on the continent with the penguins for a couple of hours and then came back to the ship. I would say most people wanted to go out onto the Antarctic continent. A few older people and people with disabilities stayed on the ship and watched from the top decks. But, I promise you: if you want to explore and leave the ship on the zodiacs, there is definitely room. 100%. Nobody is denied. The only limits are with the kayaking or camping excursions overnight. There are only a few places for those excursions. But...you couldn't PAY me to camp in the ice overnight, so I didn't worry! LOL. I hope you get to go!

    I'm a UK/US dual national currently on a 32 day holiday in Argentina to determine the best Argentine city for me to retire to when I retire at the end of 2026. The Floralis Genérica in Buenos Aires is broken and has been for years! It no longer opens nor follows the sun. Funny how none of the YT videos about visiting BA ever seem to mention this fact. Britain did not rename the Malvinas the Falklands in 1982. The Falkland Islands derive their name from Falkland Sound, the name given to the waterway between East and West Falkland by Captain John Strong, who spent several days in the Islands on his ship Welfare in 1690. Falkland Sound was itself named after Viscount Falkland, one of the owners of Welfare. Thus the British and Spanish always has different names for the islands.

  • @user-ff4bs6yx7r
    @user-ff4bs6yx7r9 ай бұрын

    Los primeros habitantes europeos de las islas Malvinas, eran franceses naturales de Saimt malo, cuyo gentilicio es malouines, que luego se españolizo en Malvinas. En 1833 los ingleses usurparon las Malvinas cuando ya Argentina era una joven república.

  • @mrbushlied7742
    @mrbushlied77429 ай бұрын

    Yes, the man who discovered the islands was French and the islands were named after him. However, the English colonized the islands and named them the Falklands. The Spanish still referred to the islands as Las Malvinas. For a time, the British and the French competed for ownership of the islands. This was long before Argentina was independent. The young Argentine republic also referred to the islands as Las Malvinas. The British sole the islands from a young, defenseless Argentine Republic and used the name The Falklands.@@user-ff4bs6yx7r

    Las Malvinas, con 11.000 Km. cuadrados de Superficie, son la parte Insular de Argentina y están 500 Km. al Este de la Provincia de Santa Cruz. Y 1.500 Km. al Este de las Islas Malvinas, están las Islas Georgias del Sur, cuya isla más importante es la Isla San Pedro y tienen 4.000 Km. cuadrados de Superficie. Ambos archipiélagos Argentinos (Malvinas y Georgias del Sur), están en posesión inglesa, de facto, o sea por la fuerza, hace 40 años aunque casi todos los países del mundo apoyan a Argentina para que el gobierno ingles devuelva esos archipiélagos a sus legítimos dueños.
