WeMadeIt Sewing Sustainably
WeMadeIt Sewing Sustainably
My sewing journey has been a long and winding road. From constantly breaking my mums sewing machine, to experimenting with waste fabrics to running an Eco Fashion Label based on Vintage Designs that I cut patterns from and tweaked to fit the curves of the modern woman.
Now as a mum of 2 teenagers I am going back to learn how to sew well enough so I can make my own Linen jacket to fit my genetically gorgeous chicken wings and to do my part in saving the planet along the way.
We Made It is my journey in learning how to sew with inspiring Fashion professionals, self taught creatives and passionate rebels as my guides. I film our sewing lessons and publish them here. We are creating an indepth Learn To Sew programme from the wisdom of the collective teachers so that you get to learn not only the basics but their own personal hacks they have curated through their years.
We are all busy, I get that, so this is about us teaching you fast but thoroughly.

Thank you for this video! I have a yukata that has been sitting in my closet for 20 years and this is how I want to upcycle it.
Very comprehensive and clear.😊
Hello, I am thinking of buying a machine, but I am undecided. Should I buy Brother A150 or Bernette SW Go 8?
Thanks for this demo, I was having a few woes getting the tension on the upper and lower thread 👍
What needle do you use for stretch material and what stitch also what foot?
Thank you for these instructions- I recently won this machine at a retreat - this gives me a great overview of the basics
How to do darning on pants on innovis A 150.
Thankyou so much ..your video help a lot...wonderful tutorial..just got my machine yesterday...thankyou again
Good tutor. Clear step by step tutoring.❤
All Japanese kimonos are hand sewn. Even today!!
I have had my 150 for 3 months and love every day I have sewing with it. Nearly 60 years ago I started on my nan's treadle and have used many different machines but this one is amazing. Lovely informative tutorial 👍
Thank you for sharing, very informative!!! :) It helps A-LOT!!
Thank you so much for the informative video! I’m off to try it ☺️
Fantastic thank you so much
I absolutely loved this tutorial... I find it so hard to understand the manuals so this is such a great help... I used to sew a lot now after 25 years I am giving it a go again and just got this machine... I feel like I have to learn all over again but this helped so much
I have just received this machine. I have been playing around with it. I have noticed that when I am sewing decorative stitches or the alphabet and I’m not using my foot control I am not able to adjust the speed of the sewing. Is this right? The speed control slider works fine on the utility stitches without the foot pedal so I don’t think there’s a malfunction with it. I have looked in the manual and I can’t find anything mentioning it in there. Tia
Hi. I have the brother a150. When I unplug the foot control I am not able to control the spread on some of the decorative stitches. However when I plug in the foot control I am. Is this right? It’s a brand new machine.
Thank you for all your great tutorials. I just bought the machine before xmas.
Is there any problems in this machine until now? I'm going to buy it
Nope, none. Just keep her clean in the bobbin area to prevent jamming but that's on every machine.
Please show how to wind thread to bobbin case and how to operate the machine
This is fantasic, I was hoping to just learn how to use my new machine, though have learnt so much more little bits that will help me in general :)
You are a total gem. Wish you were my sewing teacher when I was a kid...I would've listened!
But where are the buttons?????👎👎👎🌚
Agree
Really love the way you've explained it, very clear and precise explanations.. love your videos.. keep doing more videos about A150 on tips and tricks :)
By any chance would u be able to show the monogram stitch in this machine? In which of your creation you've used that?
Ahh haven't used that yet.
What are all the types of foots used in this machine 1. Invisible Zipper foot 2. Piping foot 3. Bead attaching foot 4. Ruffler foot 5. Walking foot 6. Non stick foot 7. Open toe foot 8. Quarter inch piecing foot Quarter inch piecing foot with guide. 9. Pintuck foot Any other foots besides these pl let me know. Waiting eagerly for yr reply.
Hi Maria, it depends if you bought it on a campaign as I managed to get all those feet as an extra on my sewing machine as it only came with 4. Each store is different but the base is the 1, 2, 7 and I am not confident about the 4th but it was definitely 4.
Hi. How are you. Thanks for yr prompt reply.. I hv this machine . I would like to know what are the additional foots we require using this machine which we did not get along with this machine 1. Invisible zip foot 2. Ruffler foot 3. Quilting foot 4. Pintuck foot 5. Piping foot 6. Flower foot 7. Walking foot 8. Side cutter S 9.
Thank for sharing, I hope you can Share more of your projects using this machine. Godbless♥️
Do o you get CD with this machine.
Do you get Cd with this machine.
CD? Do you mean a video instruction CD, no that's why I did this one.
Thank you so much and God bless you abundantly.
Do you a cd with I novis A150.
No. Only a book, if you're asking if I got a CD with the BrotherA150. That's why I created the video, I am busy and don't have time to read their book so we filmed this set up tute as Brother doesn't have this kind of content.
Thank you for your prompt reply. I hv difficulties as I hv switched on from a different machine to this machine. Like I had thru change the foots with screwdriver now just lower the pressure foot and it's done. Now several types of changes are there so it takes time ro settle with this machine and as you said we are so busy that we hv no time to read the book. The other day the the shuttle came out I did not know what to do I had to do. open the utube to each. But I feel they should give free demonstrations for people who are using this machine for the first time.
Extremely helpful - thank you.
You're welcome anytime.
Thank you so much. I brought 2 kimonos back from Japan and this is exactly what I want to do with them.
Greatly helpful! Thanks a ton!
On ne voit pas l'écran ! Dommage
This lady is saying it's a pity she can't see the screen, she's right I can't make head or tail of it, however your explanation it excellent, a good video otherwise.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this lovely introduction video to the A150 sewing machine. It's highly appreciated and a lot better to understand than the manual 😃 Now I only need to figure out why my stitches don't look clean and the tension is hardly right. Maybe our old sewing machines are not that picky if it comes to the threads I'm using.. Any idea?
You're welcome. You have to make sure the top tension is set right, that's the key piece of the puzzle on the stitch length. Also keep your bobbin clean, it makes a huge difference.
Really informitive
Thank you Thank you, I tried reading the manual.... You made it so much simpler!
That's the whole reason why I did this, my brain couldn't make any sense of that manual. It wasn't made for creative people!
Wow I am super impressed with this amazing tutorial, I just gave my niece my 35 year old Janome and bought my first computerised machine.... WOW
Hi, watched your video earlier this year. Everything was well explained. Your video helped me to decide on the A150 instead of a mechanical sewing machine. Thanks.
Sweet Darcy, I am so glad you did. I still love mine just as much as the day I bought it.
That bobbin winding doodad (#3) is technically called a Bobbin winding thread guide and pretensioning disc. Thats too many words for such a small thing lol! I call it a tensioning disc or tension disc or bobbin tension disc, depending on how lazy i’m feeling 👍🏼 And.. that button in the bottom right of the keypad, two up, two in. The one with the circular arrow. It locks all the keys and buttons. I suspect so you don’t accidentally sew over your finger while you’re changing a needle or similar. You’re supposed to press it before you change your needle or your bobbin, then press it again to unlock it all. One of those safety features that no one would be bothered with, like me for example 🤪
This is such a wonderful video! My 150 is arriving tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited! I've been battling with my trusty very old Brother innovis 15 that I lent to the school where I teach and it came back totally messed up! Stitch regulator gone, bobbins won't wind and feed dogs slip down in the middle of sewing! Tomorrow is going to be a lovely day! You are a great teacher! Thank you!
Thanks Sarah, I am still in love with this machine and I it's year 2 now, no regrets!
How to use the embroidery stitches?
Oh Dana so sorry for the delay in reply. I don't know this yet but I am going to be doing some more filming around this so I will ask and get back to you.
fabulous tutorial just what I needed thank you
thank you for this tutorial
You are welcome. Brother support is very hard to get through to which is why I have focused on some tutorials about this machine as I find reading instruction manuals very dry and complicated. Let me know how your sewing adventures go. My Instagram is @wemadeitbitches
great tutorial, just bought this machine and I am so pleased with it
Great!!! So glad it helped. I have just done my first major clean of the machine after using it for nearly 18months, it is a must. I am going to do a tute on that too just have to get life back to a little bit of normalcy and then will get onto it.
Can the feed dogs on this machine be lowered to do free motion sewing?
Yes it does, there is a slide button at the back of the machine that allows you to set the feed dogs down. they don't pop back up when you slide the button back to the original position but it does seem to click back into place - being in the up position, once you start sewing.
So beautiful illustration..... soothing voice, no background music, knowledgeable about the machine....what can someone ask for more! Want to get this machine because of how well you have explained which is important for new user......
Thanks Pema
Happy new year to you! Keep up the awesome videos. I have been looking for a tutorial for a men’s pant/trousers that are simple to sew, comfy to wear but still looks “professional” enough to go to work in. I work in a office desk job where t-shirts and jeans are ok. This video could be a good starting point for me using the right materials.
Thank you Mitchell, Happy New Year to you too. Go for a nice linen fabric and this design will have you set. My husband and son wear these a lot, I have been making them for nearly 16 years and they still love them. I have just moved my family to FNQ in QLD, so will resume the uploads next week so you will have the complete lessons up here soon. Just putting the last pieces together in my office.
Hi Ma'am, as usual a pleasure to watch and learn from you! Could you make a tutorial on - how to sew from ready made patters for the beginners? I've bought a few dress patterns from Simplicity and NewLook but I'm a bit apprehensive about cutting the fabric and make a mess!! I'd be grateful if you could do a 'sew together' tutorial. Thanks very much.
Absolutely Sandhya, we are going to be uploading more videos over the new few weeks that will cover that. Can you send me the numbers of your patterns so me and the team can see what you are about to sew and we can help you with that. But I have a great video on how to cut with your pattern, I will make sure I upload that first. Leave it with me but I will have it up in a few weeks.
