I quilt, but I prefer buying by the yard as I make bargellos. Where I buy fabric, they have loads of fat quarters for sale. If it was so horrible to make and sell why do they keep so many in stock?
I use a lot of strips so i like linear cuts - 1/4 yd, 1/2 yd etc. I never buy jelly rolls or layer cakes because I am low income. So glad I bought a lot of fabric when it was so much less expensive than it is today. Now I only buy bits to finish a project.
I Like most all Pre-Cuts ( FQs, Jelly Rolls, 10 inch SQ's, Charm SQ's).There are neat patterns to use for all these Precuts. Then, of course, there are the new Vegas Strips. This opens up a whole new set of way of thinking of what to make.
That was so corny. I had to laugh. I can’t imagine how difficult it is to keep everything organized. Someone will complain, no matter how the products are placed!
LOL, FQ's ARE # 1 !!!!! :P
Very interesting! Could you guys order fat quarters from the fabric companies, to save you labor and inventory issues? I didn't know that fabric stores would cut custom fat quarters on demand. My favorite 2 precuts are layer cakes and fat quarters.
I buy fat quarters only in novelty fabrics, and I use jelly rolls for pretty much everything else, so I usually cut my own 2.5in strips from backing fabric. All my quilts are donated to Aussie Hero Quilts made to a specific recipient's unique request.
Good idea if you have room for a board ! I have made my own covers in the past. I used canvas with two layers of wool batting underneath.
I love FQ’s!!!!!!
Awesome Zach! Thank you.
I tagged you on my latest project a few days ago but never heard anything from you. I got the fabric from you too 😢
Love this concept
This was awesome !!! I learned so much from your video !!! Am now a new subscriber !!! Keep up the informative posts !!!
The “SEW YEAH” Family are AMAZING🎉! M🍀
Oh boo hoo hoo, you have to do some work to “appease the customers”.🙄 I’ll make your job even simpler by not visiting your store.
I am not a quilter, but I do make doll clothes. I like fat quarters because of the specific dimension it is. That 18 x 22 will allow me to make trousers and dresses for a 24-28 in doll without doing weird piecing to make it look right.
I just buy half yards.
I don't see the pdf pattern. Can you help me?
It is in the video description 😁
I learned something from this - thanks. Also videos live and die based on the drama of their titles, even if the store doesn't really "hate" fat quarters, so I understand. OTOH, if they are an unintentional loss leader with regard to time and effort, maybe you should raise the prices.
I'm a jelly roll girl!
Nifty! Thanks for the great tutorial!
I worked at Hancock's the last year and change they were open, can't tell you how many people demanded the manager when I told them we weren't allowed to cut fat quarters cause it was against policy (took too much time)
No link for the ruler?

There are also uneven sides that have to be trimmed, which wastes fabric that the customers can't use. Fat quarters are frequently overpriced. Yardage is also frequently overpriced. Fat quarter bundles can run into up to $20 a yard, when the yardage is added up. No fabric is worth that much.
I love FQ. I like how your store you have the FQ on the shelf with the line. That would make shopping so easy. Wish one was close to me.
I love love fat quarters!~ So pretty and to make mug rugs or something small these are terrific. Sometimes I notice the fat quarters before I see the bolts!!
Thanks for showing the process.
Great tutorial.
I get so frustrated when shops break up collections in colours. I personally want to see the whole collection together. I don’t want to hunt it all down. It’s wastes so much time.
I am disabled so I am having trouble getting to my main machine. I bought a mini sewing machine. Nightmare. I think it only takes diddy cotton reels. I can't stop the thread from breaking. I rethreaded many times. I can pull the reel until the needle is threaded. Then it will not budge. What (probably daft) thing am I doing wrong? I am not sure if any other better quality reels will fit a mini machine. HELP!!!!😮
It might be a great idea to have an additional pos system at the cutting area so it much easier and quicker to process the inventory!
Great show Sew Yeah! congratulations to the winners! 😃🤩
I prefer jelly rolls actually, but I do buy fq pretty often.
I make a quilt once in a great while. I mostly make clothes and accessories. I like fat quarters because I like scrappy, haphazard quilts, and most of the fat quarters find their way into my clothes and bags as pockets, linings and trims. I have more appreciation for the extra work involved in these precuts.
I just but 1/2 yards cuts. Cheaper and more of the fabric.
Leave it to a millennial to complain about his job. If they sell then what's the problem? I'm buying more fat quarters now.
I love your quilt!
Thanks so much!!!
poor employee, they have to work
It was only to show the process. A lot of people want to know all the things that make a quilt store. We are thankful for our customers and appreciate them so much!!
Do you think that the bright colors in the reds will run onto the white with the first wash?
You might wash the red first before you start.
Thank you for the free quilt pattern
Thank you for watching!
Well that says alot about your view in what a customer may like. As a scrappy quilter and an Applique artist I would prefer the FQ. Also enjoy them as a quick purchase when the cutting table is backed up. I'll be sure to spend that money at a shop who believes in the customer satisfaction
We never meant this as we hate FQ or don't want to have them for our customers. It was only meant to show how they are done and what process brings them to the floor. That is all. We love our customers and are very thankful for each of them. Thanks for watching!!
You use the word HATE in your title. And empashize it and then are baffled as to why anyone would think that.
Definitely fat quarters
🥰🥰😍
I’m a scrap quilter and love using my bits and pieces, supplemented with yard goods. The FQ & CP are too same same for me.
Thanks for sharing that info and for watching!!!
Great ruler. Where can I find that ruler for hst's
We should have on the website. sewyeahquilting.com
I can't tell if this is on my end but there are small windows that opened up in a place I needed to see what you are doing. How do I stop that? This is something I need help with so I want to see it done!
I'm not sure we can answer that here. Thanks For watching!
@@SewYeah I wish I could figure it out. I missed some of the steps you took because the screen was covered with those small windows.
I made this quilt. 132 HST! Villa Rosa pattern.
Great!!! thanks for watching!
Great vid. I'd come to LV just to visit your shop !
Please do!
