    @@ChickpeaHobbies That’s awesome! I pretty much figured. LOL! From down under where everything either bites you, sticks you, or kills you. I’d still like to come down someday and share a bucket of piss sometime. I’m here in Tennessee where the heat and humidity will literally melt you where you stand. I’ve worked outside all my life and the heat is just another day for me. It’s been mid 90s F for about the last couple of weeks and humidity damn near 100%. Sure makes it hard to do any model painting. LOL! Shoot a coat on er and run er back inside! Thank you for getting back with me. Great job on the Camaro by the way. I’m working on a 1967 Camaro right now and wishing for good results.

    How much time between paint and clear, and between clear coats mate?

  • @ChickpeaHobbies
    @ChickpeaHobbies2 ай бұрын

    Hey mate Between my mist coats, extremely short time. Like a 1-3 minutes at a guess. Just enough for the paint to gas out a little (so I don’t get runs) eg it sort of evaporates before your eyes. Between each of these mists I pop the model in a dust proof thing to sit. However take that with a grain of salt as a few on here have said I use too much paint. I just paint the way that suits me, Tamiya paints are pretty thin and I find doing multiple coats works for me so will keep doing it this way As for clear coat, I let the paint cure for at least 24 hours. Just because it’s touch try doesn’t mean it is fully gassed out and can still be curing and changing shape. Applying clear before the bottom paint layer is fully cured and gassed out can result in that wrinkled paint, as the paint and clear are curing at different rates The basic theory I work to is that as soon as paint starts drying at all do not apply anything on top till it’s completely dry otherwise you get wrinkles because you’ve got semi dry paint curing under new paint and it gets ugly. So with Tamiya paints that start drying really quick I would eg never ever wait an hour between paint coats, it’s either the next coat misted on a couple of minutes later, or a very long wait. So this model would have been like Prime & wait half a day to a day Then Mist paint coats with a few minutes between each coat, keeping an eye on it to make sure nothing is going to run Then a long wait at least 24 hours Then clear And if I use multiple clear coat mists, it’s only a couple of min between each mist Remember the more you handle the model and move it around the more risk of dropping it and getting dust all over it so look into a little spray booth or I’ve done a foam shelter to sit mine in to dry by lining foam with baking paper type stuff to make it relatively dust free and I sit the model in there after spraying outside . Hope this helps and I am no expert at all so take what I say with a grain of salt 😂

    Hey mate how long do you let the gloss sit before clear, and is it enamel gloss? Thanks mate.

  • @ChickpeaHobbies
    @ChickpeaHobbies3 ай бұрын

    Hey mate I use Tamiya rattle cans. I am such a dodgy painter and they are forgiving paints 🤣 I use Tamiya TS cans (note TS, not the PS line which I think are for flexible rc cars or something) so it’s Tamiya TS spray paints and Tamiya TS Clear (I think TS13). The question around how long before applying the clear is important. I wait a couple of days as if you apply it too soon (eg a few hours after paint is dry) I’ve had problems with the paint wrinkling so I let it well and truely gas out. Someone on a forum also told me if the model still smells like paint it’s still gassing out, so don’t clear coat yet. But to be honest many of mine I don’t even clear coat as the Tamiya TS rattle paints lay down so glossy 😎 Let me know how you go and any other questions I’ll try help, although I’m still learning too 🤣

  • @ChickpeaHobbies
    @ChickpeaHobbies3 ай бұрын

    Also I’m not sure if it’s enamel or not, I just use the Tamiya TS Clear (ts13 I think which is the gloss clear) but just make sure it’s a gloss one as they do Matt clears too

    Overall well constructed, but it strikes me a bit too dull in appearance, sorry. The chrome grille is a must for big trucks like this. Owner-operators bought MORE chrome to dress up these trucks, not remove chrome. It may be the lighting, but use of black wash was too heavy, imo. There are lighter gray wash tones available that might've been better, but only if used in the grille-work, not left on the surrounding chrome or center bulldog circle. That's becoming my plan, after seeing your video. I've just purchased this kit, haven't decided on color yet. But I'm quite sure that it will carry bright-work very prominently. On the clear window install, it's becoming standard by builders to use Modge-Podge. It dries clear, and will not etch clear parts or wick into painted surface.
