This channel is a window into our world of sculpting. My wife, Charisse and I have been creating instructional sculpting materials since 1993 in the form of books, videos, specialty tools and plaster reference casts for artists around the world. Through these videos we also share some of the techniques I teach in my classes.

After watching it several times I got it. Couldn t you seperate the plaster pieces with something very thin instead of doing this procedure with clay stripes?

I don't get the mold procedure, maybe you must show it again.

Do you happen to know why it isn’t necessary to scratch and slip when adding material? Is it just a really soft clay body or something??

I'm just so amazed at how confidently he could move. A novice sculptor would take much longer to place the features. Each stroke was so decisive!

why would one have to hollow a statue / sculpture ? Would it do damage to just stay as it was ? Won't clay dry up / get all hard ?

once you have the portrait, have you considered getting it 3D scanned and thus getting smaller/larger versions of it produced via 3D printing?

Brilliant Philippe! Please tell me, do you fire your original sculptures? And if so, before or after you make the mould? Thanks from a beginner :-)
