I've been to the Fridolins hutte at the base of the Todi twice back in 1974. One of the two times I was there, a huge avalanche off the Todi came almost to the Fridolin hutte (alp hut). We ran for cover into the hut thinking that we would be swallowed by the avalanche. But the avalance stopped before hitting the hut. I was at the hut to help my friends who ran it.

Thanks David! I grew up a military brat and had countless tours of similar places and history. Hard to comprehend or be interested as a young boy, but as I got older, somethings resonated. I came across the diary (in French) of the Colonel in charge of this instillation and my job as a flight attendant allowed me a visit during a long layover. I put the two together and I'm really happy you liked it!

Eric -- This is Lisa from Oklahoma. My daughter just started middle school, and I've been remembering my junior high years. It looks like maybe you have a daughter, too? You look very happy & healthy. I had big smiles while watching . . . I hope that all is well with you!

The village you mention is Capileira. I`m a Brit based in a village in the foothills of Cerro Caballo, one of the Tres Milles. Good vid.

I've been to Mt. Washington before, in October 1990. I took a small tree limb and stamped on it the date and Mt Wash. Summit. I then gave it to my 4 year old daughter...she was thrilled. The other day she gave it back to me: "It's pretty stupid to keep this Dad." She's 24. Oh well I'll give to one of her children...they'll be thrilled I'm sure! It's a beautiful place!!

The ice stunt was way out of control and I'll not do it again until I have some real gear and instruction. Mulhacen was high and very dry at the end of Sept, but I saw the most amazing full moon rise and set while trail hiking in the night. They have great trail huts in the Sierra Nevada and generally safe weather most of the year. Excellent views!
