    You can go 20 feet up, but you can also go as low as 9 to 10 feet… 20 years of Wildlife Rehab working with hundreds of Screech Owls and I have seen so many natural no higher than 10 feet. Even 8 ft.

    The sunlight shining through that plexi-glass will heat up the inside of that bird house and quickly become too hot inside for chick survival.

  • @WAHollier54
    @WAHollier543 ай бұрын

    Plexiglass will not conduct more heat than what is already illuminating. And as he said, blue birds sometimes nest in the open in the elements on top of rotting wood posts, so heat and other weather conditions do not bother them.

    I live in Elkhart Indiana. I understand that we should put them facing southeast. Is there any place that would fund housing for bats around here? I want to put up houses, but I don’t have the funding.

    Cardboard box with door cut out and a peanut butter treat rat trap. Of course you have to deal with the whole dead rat thing, but my neighbor has been doing this for years and rats don’t last long around here. Live traps for red squirrels with a relocation program.

    Should use 3/4” pvc at 4” each as a backer spacer through which you put 5-7” gutter screws (2 per house sufficient) - need to minimize falling guano from hitting siding; also avoid locating over window or doors.

    I found the house suet feeders (upside down feeders) work to prevent starlings and grackles from eating it. Now i can out the super blend suet in them. For all of my others feeders I use safflower seed. I buy peanuts in the shell for my flat feeders for the Bluejays and squirrels. If the peanuts are in the shell the starlings won't want to take time to crack them open.

    Fortunately, the squirrels (about 7) and morning doves (about 20) eat together at all the feeding stations I created around a large tree. The morning Doves never touch the peanut (in shells). My only little naughty ones are the Blue Jays. They don't like eating with the others and will swoop in (like military) to grab food quickly and take it to another part of the tree to eat. The wood peckers are incredible and seem to only enjoy the suet cakes. Every now and then - parrots will come through for the fruit. They are SO loud - usually in a group of 3 or 4. It's so amazing to see. (I live in South Florida). Thank you for your videos.
