    There is a Scarlet W for $4000 on ebay (with monitor, side handle and 2 Mini mags) and there is a Komodo 6k on ebay (with handle and batteries) for $4000 as well. Which do you suggest I get? I film mostly commercials, promo videos.

    Not to hate on your Video but, yes, I can hear an electrical hum in your background. I can also hear the echo of your voice in the hyper reflective area you are recording. Don't worry most people over the age of 50 won't hear it! TBH its hard to get audio 100% unless you have a sound engineer treat your space or if you learn what to do to reduce these challenges prior to recording & in post.

    Save yourself the hassle and greed of RED and just get a pocket 6k. Just as good, if not better, and it's a fraction of the cost. Seriously, you could get three for the price of RED's greedy, proprietary BS. Or if you just NEED the form factor, get the Ursa, Still cheaper and BRAW is SO much easier to work with in post. I just can't understand why RED is still in business.

  • @AppleboxCinema
    @AppleboxCinema Жыл бұрын

    Well the Pocket 6K didn’t exist when I bought the RED. In fact the Pocket 4K didn’t either. I’ve used both, they are both great. Definitely don’t think the 6K is as good, definitely not better in my experience. I’ve never had an issue editing RED raw, my computer cuts through the 5K footage like butter and I’ve been able to pay for the RED by renting it out locally, and now I’m making money off it. Never saw much interest in renting my 6K so I eventually sold it and stuck with the RED. It’s been a better investment for me, but I know that’s not everyone’s experience. Glad to see so many great cameras coming out at lower price points!

    If you don't need a NAS (which most people don't), the OWC Thunderbay is a great option. You can get it for around $800 and upgrade HDDs as you go. I shoot BRAW and the average project is around 1tb, so I have about 72tb of storage. Backblaze is also a good option, but it is VERY slow, so large files take a while to upload.

    How to get rid of the white noise when actually speaking into the mic? There is nothing until sound enters the mic from my mouth, then i hear this background white noise - how do we eliminate this completely?

  • @AppleboxCinema
    @AppleboxCinema Жыл бұрын

    The best way to reduce white noise is to lower the microphone's gain (how loud the mic records) and to get the microphone as close to the subject as possible. And of course the more expensive and high-quality your microphone is, the better it will sound.

    Why do you change the camera settings when shooting in s-log? Wouldn't it be a more fair comparison if the camera settings were the same?

  • @AppleboxCinema
    @AppleboxCinema Жыл бұрын

    It's been a while since I made this video so I don't really remember, but I know that some of the camera settings change depending on the profile you're using. For example, if my memory is correct, Slog doesn't let you shoot below ISO 1600, so I had to make adjustments to the f-stop and ND to get a similar exposure.

    Hi great video! Questions was if you have similar clips how can you jus apply the same colour grade to all of them instead of repeating the process again and again? Thanks!

  • @AppleboxCinema
    @AppleboxCinema2 жыл бұрын

    Hey thanks Ash! Great question. If your clips are all similar, in Premiere you can click on your colored clip, go into the Effects Controls panel and right-click the Lumetri color effect, and click “copy” then go to your other similar clips, and paste. Then that color grade will apply to all of them.

    I just found your channel. A friend of mine asked me if I could do a video for his wife's shoe store. She saw a video I did of him training at his gym; he's a professional boxer. So he said we'll pay you for it. I said sure. This would be my first paid job. However, I'm trying to figure out which route to go. I was thinking a flat fee of $500 for the day including the editing process. But he mentioned she wants drone footage also (I just got certified so I'm able to do this). So with that included the price would have to go up. Since this is my first paid job I could charge $700-$800. But out of curiosity, what would you recommend? Should I still ask him what their budget is and go from there? Or just charge them what I think it's worth? I don't want to undervalue my service just because it's my first paid job.

  • @AppleboxCinema
    @AppleboxCinema2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Kenny, congrats on getting your first paid job. I think it’s a great idea to start by saying “for video and drone footage, my rate is $800, but I’m open to negotiating a price that’s fair for both of us” and see what they say. A client will always want to pay less but a videographer should always value their time and skills. Think of a price you wouldn’t be willing to work for less, and be firm. It takes years to learn these skills and it takes money to buy equipment, so it’s not something just anybody can do. If you’re still willing to do this video for $500, let them negotiate down that far but not go below it. If they can’t pay the lowest amount you’re willing to charge, see if they’re willing to lose the drone footage. Until you’re a thriving business, working out pricing with clients will be a dance to find a price that everyone is comfortable with.

    At this point honestly the Komodo is probably a better deal. It’s cheaper and newer. The Scarlet-W is still great and will be for a long time, but camera tech gets better and new REDs get more affordable every year. If I was buying one today, I’d probably get the Komodo.

    What profile is best for my Sony ZV-1?

  • @AppleboxCinema
    @AppleboxCinema Жыл бұрын

    Sorry for the late response. I've never used the Sony ZV-1 so I can't say for sure, but I'd recommend using a LOG format or at the very least, whatever the "flattest" profile it offers. That removes some of the contrast and saturation so that the camera is recording the most visual data possible, which gives you more flexibility to add it back in later. Hope that helped!

    Thanks for this video! I have the same issue with desaturated exports on a Mac and it's super frustrating. I've noticed this issue doesn't happen on Windows (the exports match the preview perfectly) so I've resorted to working on a Windows computer. Not an ideal solution, but at least one exists Btw your colors look really good in your videos! Am I able to recreate this with a consumer-level Canon camera? Do you shoot in a log/flat profile and color the footage after?

  • @AppleboxCinema
    @AppleboxCinema2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! Yeah, I think using a PC might really help with exports. Adobe has confirmed their color issues are because of Macs, so that's actually a great idea. Glad you like the colors in the video! You can definitely get similar results with a consumer level camera. I try to shoot in a log/flat profile because it gives you the most flexibility to change colors, so if your camera has flatter profiles, that's a great start!
