    During the pandemic, I drug out my old Strombecker from 1966 1/32 scale, 124 scale track and add 66 feet of hill climb in my living room for about from 2018 to 2024. It was amazing just like you said in the beginning, and then a monster of a track layout and more cars and more track. It was fun. Your video is just like my experience ….long live slot caring

    Hello, good work. How is it holding up? I am wondering if hitting it with a flat clearcoat would be an improvement?

  • @biggusmikus
    @biggusmikus7 ай бұрын

    Hi, it's working great. Never had an issue with any of it and the look is uniform even if the pieces were painted at different times. I have no idea about a clearcoat or what that might do.

  • @roundsaturn31

    @@biggusmikus Good to know, thanks for the reply. I was thinking of the constant rubbing of the tires and etc following the same basic running lines lap after lap, thinking it would eventually rub the paint off, Usually after the paint job dries, if you put a clear coat on it, the item is protected much better, like a car finish or an outdoor table...today's modern paint probably has those protectants built in. Thanks again for verifying that it's holding up :)

  • @biggusmikus

    @@roundsaturn31 I've never had any paint rub off. I have had, however, a racing line develop on the track as the cars lay rubber down. I use rubber tires when possible, usually the stock rubber. So on track there is a light racing line. I'm wondering what kind of traction properties a layer of clear coat would have. The vinyl works great on top. I suppose if clear coat didn't create a totally slick surface, then it would probably work. I'd definitely try it on a track piece or two before going all in on it just in case.

  • @roundsaturn31
    @roundsaturn317 ай бұрын

    @@biggusmikus yes, we are on the same page...it's kind of interesting since I was thinking of spray painting for a cocrete look and then sealing it with a flat clear coat, for the clear coat to work it would have to seal the paint...so even flat would probably create a slicker surface...don't know and probably over thinking it, but that's what learning is all about :) Thanks for the chat and Happy Holidays!

    I've done comparisons with new track and freshly painted new track, and I feel a grip improvement. It's not much, but it's noticeable in the corners. The larger the radius of curve, the more grip improvement there is. I love Thunderslot cars. Not a dud in the bunch.

    @MikeyHanson awesome layout is your track painted? Is your track a copy of an existing racecourse? I want to build (lack space) an homage to the Sazuka racecourse in Japan, and maybe Silverstone in G.B. Possibly all though it’s very complex the circut of the Americas here in Texas. 30 years ago a road race for (I believe IMSA or maybe IROC) was run in Dallas. Fantastic road course, I wouldn’t mind building. I’m going for Sazuka or Dallas road course winter 23/24 as my slot car project. Have you named your course? Well great video awesome channel I subscribed. Have a great time whenever you get this.

    Hi, thanks! I used to have a course setup when I had a permanent table in my attic. I've moved to an apartment since then, so my priorities have shifted to tuning and racing cars on temporary circuits I can squeeze into my living room. Yes, I painted the track with exterior latex house paint and it came out great. Have fun with whichever track you decide on making! I can never decide, so I like having to constantly change.
