'what are the prospects of making stencils of my own, using paper, masking tape, plastic film or aluminium foil? Or if one would use a 3D printer, one could perhaps do pretty advanced and reusable stencils?

I don't see a real need for any other camouflage pattern than the urban one! ;) You could just have done a 10 minute video on that alone! xD

i dont think AI art is cheating or theift it take alot of work to make AI good. Now in saying that i do not think AI should be used in any Art competition.

I'm currently in the middle of putting together my own chapter. The nice thing is, a chapter can be up to 1000 units, split into 10 chapters of 100, so I think that gives alot of room to play around XD I ended up pocking their colour scheme when I found a dreadnought on ebay that had been custom painted, dark read but with a black rose on a kitbashed shield that was placed on the arm as a bit of armour detail, thorned vines wrapped around the opposite arm, and I bought a squad of red spacemaines before hand, so that kind of decided my colouring in the end XD Theyre mostly black and red, with gold accents, but I also experimented a little with one lieutenant (after I discovered I had put a Lt shoulder padded arm on him) and put a blue stripe on his helm instead of the usual sargent colour (he'd started out as a squad sgt) and I think it works, picks him out easily from the rest of the officers without overpowering the colour scheme. Right now I'm planning on kitbashing a Chapter Master together but just looking for inspiration on what model use as a starting point

Interesting video. I've considered trying to cut masking tape or frisket film stencils on my laser cutter for a similar but more customizable solution. I know some people do the same using a cricut, which if you have a large army might start to make monetary sense over buying that many anarchy stickers.

1:01:06 The core issue here isn’t whether something is stolen or legal, the core issue is that Neil, who is talented in one medium (mini painting) has clearly lost respect for artist who work in another medium (digital art and photography). Saying “‘but I could have used Adobe!” isn’t the point. The point is that we now live in a world where certain types of art will no longer be viable ways to make a living. So yea, Neil’s glib attitude is obnoxious, and that’s why a ton of people are annoyed. I don’t actually blame the hosts for this-they just seem to be fairly incompetent interviewers. After all, they chose to toss boring softball questions and pal around with the guest instead of create space for a thoughtful and/or provocative conversation.

The podcast started with you guys all talking about various techniques and little discoveries you make as painters, even from Neil himself. With AI you lose that organic bit of discovery. Art and creativity should be a reflection and development of us as people, AI is too broad and oblivious to properly reflect that- it stops being human. A painting competition should be to celebrate human creativity. While AI is just one of the many tools that can be used, I think in the use of it here is too strongly leaned on to consider it as used in a skilled manner. Neil himself says that part of these comps is about pushing boundaries and the use of AI here is just implemented in such a pedestrian manner that it's kinda disappointing to not see it more creatively used by such a renowned painter.

Honestly. No issues at all with opinions in this episode. Because they are opinions. People need to stop taking so many things personally. If GW deemed it fine to be in the comp then that's their decision. Not his fault as the artist. As for the concern of artists and designers losing work. I empathise but this has been happening for an the eternity of human technological advancement. AI is just the latest technology to come along and threaten an industry. It is a sad situation but is as inevitable as whatever comes next. I have changed career field 3 times so far in my few decades working, it's just part of the process of working life now.

I have no problem with Neil winning the slayer sword. In fact Neil is a exceptional painter and he earned to win with or without the backdrop. But I have to say, I have never heard an artist talking that disrespectful about art theft... I'm honestly disappointed how unreflective you guys are talking about a very sensitive topic. Yes AI is and will be a great tool in the future but AI will kill livelihoods.

I think you did a really good job with this interview, I decided to listen due to seeing some negative comments and plenty of times you went through interesting questions and discussions with the controversies. You’re under no obligation to push conversions with your guests to uncomfortable levels. It’s all too easy for people to pick up on one small part and ignore the rest. Keep up the great content. ❤
