arieknits

Hello and welcome to arieknits! My name is Ariel and I love knitting 🧶 I also sometimes crochet, sew, and dye yarn! Knitting has become such a huge part of my life and what I do on my free time, that I thought it would be fun to hop into the knitting podcast community and start making videos where I talk about what I am knitting, what projects I have finished, what I have planned, and general other chatty things.

    I’m thinking about gift knits too, but I feel like everyone around me would like black beanies. I’m making a pastel green Hipster and I am glad for the pop of colour haha. I can’t ait to see your finished shawl! If you have leftover suri you can now add it to future Bennet Sister shawls ;)

    Wow, your hand spun looks absolutely gorgeous! The colours are so beautiful! I have had some bordeaux yarn for a while to make a hoodie for myself. After seeing yours I decided to use Tori's pattern as well. Fit looks perfect. Now where to fit it into my long queue??

    Hi Arie! Just started your video. I have a question I wanted to ask. Are you happy with your eew 6.1 wheel? I am on the waiting list for a Daedalus starling but realized many spinners have the eew 6.0 or 6.1 wheel and seem to like them and they are way less expensive, so I am curious about how you feel about it 😊 Your hoodie is fabulous, saw it finished in your last episode and can’t wait to watch how it fits on you. A hoodie might be the only thing i haven’t yet knit, now I am casting one one this fall for sure! Hello 👋 from Canada, I love your podcast and your personality and all the inspiring projects you present!

    The Mahla top looks beautiful and would never have guessed that it was off gauge and quite different sizing to what you had initially intended. It looks perfect! Good to know that you think it will work in DK weight as well. I'm not sure about in the US but in Australia, sport weight is very uncommon anyway and it's much easier to find DK.

  • @arieknits
    @arieknits9 күн бұрын

    I also find it more difficult to find sport weight vs DK weight in the US!

    I'm a crocheter, and I would be confused with that instruction as well. Generally somewhere on the pattern either in the notes, how to do the stitch, or on the crochet row is should tell you "SC, ch1, sk st....." If it didn't say that my assumption would be the you "SC ch1" into each stitch unless it includes a stitch count that makes it obvious. ie row 1 has 10 st, row 2 has 5SC and 5CH

  • @arieknits
    @arieknits9 күн бұрын

    Thanks! I’m glad I wasn’t crazy for thinking I missed an assumption about how those instructions worked. 😅

    I love how your Vice Versa Shawl turned out! You really get to appreciate both colors and it looks great tied. I’m curious about how the Andrea Mowry pattern turns out. Is it like a thicker version of a Cumulus Blouse?

  • @arieknits
    @arieknits9 күн бұрын

    I would say it’s quite different from the cumulus blouse because it’s knit bottom up, has ribbing details, drop shoulder, and has a round neck instead of a vneck. But I can knit both with 2 strands of suri held together!

    I just finished the Colette pullover by Sari Nordlund. It is an all-over cable design. I had to restart twice and change yarn and needles. Achieving her stated gauge was very difficult. And in reading comments on Ravelry, many knitters seemed to have the same problem. She must knit her cables very loosely compared to most knitters. But I love the finished sweater.

  • @sara.gardinier
    @sara.gardinier13 күн бұрын

    I took a class to knit that sweater and the teacher helped me modify it to fit my gauge, otherwise it never would have worked!

    For edge stitches, purling on the end + slipping the first stitch or knitting the last stitch and then slipping it with yarn in front is the same effect. But like you noticed it affects how tight the edge is. So you can safely switch and the visual effect will be the same, but there might be a difference in tension. I’ve swapped them partway through a project before with no issues 😊 - also this is confirmed by my grandmother who is an expert knitter. She recommends purling the last stitch and slipping the first stitch for selvedge.

    Yay the soup shawl is finished!! Lucky about it not bleeding, although if the yarns were sold as a sock set would it be fair to assume the dyer had already tested for bleeding. I think if they sell it as a sock set, they are kind of implying that it is safe to use the yarns together but I guess it's better safe than sorry. It would have been cool if each of the sets came with a soup recipe.
