Climate Emergency Forum

Climate Emergency Forum

Join us for engaging, educational discussions about contributing factors to the climate crisis, abrupt climate change, loss of biodiversity as well as various components of climate systems. Our discussions also incorporate solutions to key aspects of climate disruption, which is affecting all life on Earth. Our panelists include Dr. Peter Carter, Director of the Climate Emergency Institute/IPCC Expert Reviewer, Paul Beckwith, Climate System Scientist, and Regina Valdez, Climate Reality Leader and Mentor.

The programs represent the personal opinions of all the guests and regular panelists.

CEF presented several programs at COP25 in Madrid, Spain, COP26 in Glasgow, UK, COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, and COP28 in the UAE. Other members of the Climate Emergency Forum include Julie Johnston (Sustainability Education Coach), Charles Gregoire (Co-producer/Video Editor/Webmaster), Heidi Brault (Co-producer/Video Editor/Web Assistant/COP Team Lead), and Kelly Green (Social Media).

    such a humanist and sensible approach. Why can't we just talk about things and leave our opinions (preferences, likes and dislikes, out of the picture) so we get a clearer picture? Great talk and call to action.

    Great idea Paul re military budget. Here is another idea: we stop producing new cars and trucks and just make do with what we have, recycle and repair and thats it. Peace!

    Roger points out that revolutionary change is all about forming coalitions. IMHO an islamistic organisation like the Gaza Hamas is not a suitable partner in that effort. Political Islamists foremost aim at eradicating the state Israel, at establishing a religious autocracy, are anti-democratic, homophobic, misogynic. And they are happy to sell oil and gas as soon as they achieve political power. So choose your coalitions wisely.

    40 years ago Carl Sagan spoke to congress about climate change. Sadly, few know or remember what he said then. Basically, the developed Western nations can take all kinds of measures to reduce production of greenhouse gases, but - and this was a key point - if China (and India) do not also take these measures it will all be in vain. Both of those countries are heavily investing in coal plants. These channels are wasting their time and ours by preaching to the converted. Go to China and India and preach this to them. Good luck with that.

    Shared vehicles work during the week, but not for those who travel on the weekends or holidays. People are not going to want to become dependent on a company for all travel. Vehicles will also become a disease transmission vector.

    During the same 40 years, the NY Times has been part of the problem. Today it is common place to blame the fossil fuel lobby, the oiligarchs "who knew about global warming while spending money to gaslight the public". -- But, you know, the NY Times also received a lot of their advertising money! They published the gaslighting denialist commentaires, sometimes in a way that it made difficult for the reader to see it was paid content, ADVERTISING and not a genuine journalist opinion column.-- And Andrew Revkin has been happy with his role of the "good cop" in this world of capitalist cynicism. -- "Why not another Marshall Plan effort to save the climate". -- Omg. This is what Al Gore proposed to do back in 1992. ...

    GAT (Global Average temperature) represents Ocean Surface Temperature. Land Areas warm by 2X - 4X in the Summer. That is why India, Thailand and many parts of S E Asia are seeing 10'c higher Temperatures. Texas is about to set its Temperature Record. Texas has already had Floods, Burns, Sewer Spills, Power Outages and now comes the Heat Dome.

    I am not enjoying the storms this year. I live in Texas north of Dallas. Two weeks ago a storm blew a tree on my house. Last week a storm blew a tree on my fence as well as knocking down three power poles between my house and the electricity cause a 23 hour power outage. Today a storm blew my front yard tree over on top of my truck. It is death but a thousand cuts from the fast moving and powerful storms. I cant afford to have a personal disaster every week.

    Paul comes in and keeps pushing SRM. What everyone needs to discuss is how SRM can be weaponized, because it can be. SRM proponents do not appear to want to discuss how serious the downsides can be, and why some nations may be for a warmer climate, and those nations who are willing to go to war to stop warming.

    Jem Bendell and DeepAdaptation have the right idea. They recognize that we are at the top of the roller coaster, the wheels are starting to come off, there is no chance of an effective mitigation or solution being implemented given our current corrupt governance structures, and so the wisest approach is to prepare for the crash and the chaos and to take action to minimize the pain as much as possible by building independent interdependent resilient communities as decoupled from TheMachine as possible

  • @kurtklingbeil6900
    @kurtklingbeil69002 күн бұрын

    The ozone hole was and remains an excellent example of Science and government and corporate industry working together on a global scale to effect an effective mitigation if not outright solution. This was made possible by the fact that there was no BIG CFC with legions of lobbyists seeking to contaminate governance structures and public discourse with their duplicitous dishonesty. The comments that managing excess CO2 atmospheric CO2 was more complex is true in essence but not in detail. Nobody in government structures or in corporate industry gives a shit about the cab driver in brooklyn. The primary confounding disrupting debilitating disempowering factor is Big Oil the PetroRacket, which has so completely captured subverted governance structures polluted public discourse that any potential movement toward the solution has been rendered impossible. Exxon scientists first discovered and published projections on the mass of emissions of CO2 would have on climate systems. That was quickly silenced suppressed hushed up and became the Genesis of a truly psychosociopathic denialist Scion to ensure that no competent intelligence public discourse on climate disruption would be allowed to the extent that they could help it. Why the hell were Petro corporations allowed to attend any of the cops? They are essentially the enemy of climate conferences and yet we're allowed to attend and disrupt an undermine and cripple the proceedings. The PetroRacket and governance structures willfully and deliberately pushed past Silent Spring past Small Is Beautiful past Limits to Growth and now well into Overshoot and a massive existential predicament and MetaCrisis. The elephants need to be kicked out of the room and leashed up. They've had a good long run. They've all made massive fortunes. They may now be permitted to continue for the sake of obtaining supplies of petroleum for essential applications.

  • @kirkha100
    @kirkha1002 күн бұрын

    Awesome. There is no dearth of information on Overshoot. It’s treated from multiple perspectives and disciplines by highly respected scientists and academics. The breaching or violation of various planetary boundaries is increasingly well documented. I’ve come to the conclusion that people seem to have a blindspot around Overshoot because understanding it generates an overwhelming sense of terrifying inevitability. There’s nothing wrong with using “climate change” as a metric. However, it is only one consequence of Overshoot. Addressing climate change as a central focus is futile and doomed to failure, if the predisposing, contributing cause is not addressed. I don’t actually even know if it can be addressed at all. So I suppose this evasion of the root cause is understandable. We evolved to succeed against a long list of evolutionary challenges and selective pressures. Except our own success. We won. Now, we die…..probably.

    Andrew throws in a gratuitous reference to India and China which is typically latched onto by the denialist cretins as an evasive what about his tactic. The fact is that even if fossil fuel combustion where to stop today the effects of the already accumulated CO2 emissions over a century will continue to destabilize and disrupt the climate systems. The references to China and India are dishonest and duplicitous since they do not account for the emissions used to manufacture products which will be consumed in the west. Also while the total National emissions are high the per capita emissions are not. The per capita emissions in the west are 5 to 6 times higher than the global average. Did the denialists are very well aware of this but choose to lie and twist the numbers to suit their ideological agenda.
