For beginner and intermediate ski/board, check out how steep a run is before you run it. I use a 360 cam and add GPS data for speed, slope percentage, and more. I also share technical/how to for processes and materials assembly - and share them here. I have organized everything into playlists so you see what you want and ignore the rest.

    wait.... wait a minute.... you/we actually have to "activate" to use this camera? Are you kidding me? Why do they (or any other company) need to know your personal info (email's, locations, purchases, etc..) JUST TO USE their product? I'm just not getting the point here, why can't anyone just pull the product out of the box, hit start/record, then download to your personal/private videos onto your computer; without their activation? Here's something to think about... read, YES, READ their "Terms of agreement/service" before aimlessly hitting the "Yes to accept" button. You WILL be surprised of the power you are ALLOWING them to spy on you. Don't fall for that "we assure you we do not use your information and respect your privacy" crap.

    traversing across the face of splashdown is a huge pain in the ass. I always make sure to go uphill a bit at the zip intersection to stay above the cornice, its much easier to traverse up there. you seemed very tired by the time you got scrub. first time I took that route I was up there for over an hour and dismounted twice so I know the pain.

    I couldn't connect my X3 to my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra for the same issue. Then, I fired up my old iPhone 11 and installed the app. I was able to connect to my X3 and the app told me it needed a firmware update so I selected "update firmware" and then installed the firmware. After that, I was able to connect my iPhone and my Samsung.

    If you look in the description for the video, you will see the equipment that I used: it's the GPS action remote linked by Bluetooth to the camera. I tried using my phone for GPS but unless the phone stays open and unlocked with the screen on it will not give continuous data to the camera.

    What skiing app is this?

  • @ByLagarto
    @ByLagarto5 ай бұрын

    it's not an app, Data is via the insta360 GPS, data recorded on the camera, and overlaid in software. You can not see any of it in real time either, only in post-production. I also run with a Garmin Venu 2 watch, which ALSO has GPS, so I can see speed and distance data at the end of each run.

  • @Joshypollo
    @Joshypollo5 ай бұрын

    Ahh okay I got an insta360 cam too but not sure how to use that feature? I usually use the app slopes it tracks my speed and all my runs and I use the epic app it also tracks everything but speed. Yours look so cool I’m going to winter park next week I’m so excited!

  • @ByLagarto
    @ByLagarto5 ай бұрын

    you can *try* using your phone linked to the Insta360 for GPS, but I find it does not stay on and once the phone goes to screen off mode, you lose the data feed. So for $80 get the GPS action remote and wear it like a watch on your wrist - it also gives you a camera function display, super useful if you have cam on helmet mount. The gps thing will show you battery life, hours of record time remaining on your memory card, mode of recording (very useful to keep it in 360 and not front only, or worse, photo mode), and acts as a start/stop record button. Super useful device if you record a lot of runs.

  • @Joshypollo
    @Joshypollo5 ай бұрын

    I didn’t even know about the action remote thx for that advice! So if I use that remote and link it to my insta360, I could get the same display your video has? I’ve been skiing for over 20 years and never seen that, would be so cool to add it to my videos.

  • @ByLagarto

    Agreed 100%. Loveland's terrain is greener on basin than in valley. Weird right? If you have access, go check out ptarmigan lift and go right to fire cut and then down to that same lift. That's the best green terrain they have. Everything else is more difficult for a first 5 day ski/snowboard. I have visited 14 mountains and would say the best beginner terrain can be found at Breckenridge or Beaver Creek. Oceans of easy greens, all wide, below -20% slope. If you're on a budget and don't mind driving, Cooper is excellent as well. Winter Park is hit or miss, especially for snowboard, the runs off of the high lonesome lift are pretty good, but there's a big flat spot.

    I just got off this trail after taking novice lessons today and feeling confident. Somehow I didn’t get hurt or crash into anyone else. It was so steep and there were so many trees and cliff edges. I’m surprised this was listed as green.

  • @ByLagarto
    @ByLagarto5 ай бұрын

    Agreed, I did this on day 1 and was terrified... 3 sections in particular. The very first catwalk turn is sharp and a little steep if you take the inside to avoid the edge drop off. Second is the narrow twice as steep section as you will have encountered after the second turn, then third shortly after that third turn, the slope is sideways and down, not just down... so you have to learn to traverse - not fun on day 1 or day 3. And yeah, it's kinda narrow in spots, catwalk in spots. You will find this construction on a LOT of mountains, catwalk runs to manufacture a green where it would otherwise be REALLY steep. My day 2 on snowboard took me 40 minutes to finish zig-zag, it was almost entirely side slip. I did not trust those catwalk drop offs one bit. On skis though? well you see my time, 10x faster than that dreadful snowboard run.

  • @ByLagarto
    @ByLagarto7 ай бұрын

    Arapahoe Basin DOES have a training area, though it's small compared with many other mountains. They do offer lessons for day 1 beginners, yes. Personally, I recommend Loveland Valley for a day 1 beginner, that's where I learned my first lessons in January 2023. Loveland's training area, plus a green run called zig-zag (see that here kzread.info/dash/bejne/qoegt7xveLG5dsY.html ) is a lot larger. For your first season, Loveland has a lot more beginner terrain (green runs) that you can explore after your first 3 lessons are complete and you have a little confidence to try longer runs.

    I am up to date with the latest download for the app and x3 itself, and yet my brand new x3 will not connect to the app on my phone either. Their customer service is the worst, I can barely get a response from anyone. Has anyone found any solution for this issue? I am frustrated as I spend hundreds of dollars on this dive kit.

  • @ByLagarto
    @ByLagarto7 ай бұрын

    If the firmware is up to date on the camera, and your phone software is also up to date, and it will still not connect, you may want to consider returning the camera as defective. I have bought 3 more X3 since I made this video, and none of them had this out-of-box failure to connect. It's quite possible you have a new unit with a bad radio. But before you do that, if you have any friends phones you can use, find out if it is YOUR PHONE and its failure to connect that is the issue. If a friend's phone can connect to it, you know it's your phone and not the camera that has the problem. Worth a try especially if the return will cost you shipping or other fees.
