    The crown of an oak tree will fan out wide and often does so asymmetrically depending upon the direction and length the branches grow to and how old the tree is. You'll find plenty of examples of this in New Orleans, particularly in City Park and along the length of St. Charles Ave. once it gets past the Central Business District and starts following the course of the river, and at the Longvue and Destrehan plantations. Oaks will tend to grow toward one another, which is how we get a green canopy over both lanes of St. Charles, separated only by the neutral ground where the streetcar tracks run. Basically, you're drawing architect's trees and this is alright since you're not trying to obscure the buildings. The trunks are thick, in fact get very thick as the tree grows and develops a crown extending more than 20-40 feet in height.

  • @MartinLachmairArt

    @@MartinLachmairArt They look good! details are are very clear. Do you recommend pocket 3 over a mirrorless camera like the zv-e10? I'm planning to get one for recording my drawings too

  • @MartinLachmairArt
    @MartinLachmairArt2 күн бұрын

    In addition to the good image quality that most cameras have nowadays, the weight and handling were the most important things for me because you have to mount the camera overhead on a tripod that should then also be stable and the Pocket 3 is very light. So I mount it with an “magic arm” at a stand or tripod and everything works fine.

    Excellent video, Martin, maybe my favorite so far. Was very interesting to hear not just about your tools and techniques - though that's always useful -, but especially your overall approach to your drawings, the seemingly lighthearted attitude you take; most of all, I think, your willingness to let your imagination run loose. Maybe you can provide a link to how you do that? Thanks again.

    I admire your message of the importance of drawing from imagination. This not only helps develop ones style, but also makes one think about their own artwork. I believe even using other artists work as inspiration and reference, still take it to the next level by making it own.

    How can i reach your level of confidence with marking those faaaaabulous lines ?? I really draw beatifully, and can achieve even realism at some works, but i would love to "scratch" on the paper and get those sketchy lines of yours.. what's your secret??

    Got to try these sketch books, very mixed views on Amazon but watching this, they look fine for ideas and simply having a bit of fun. I am very surprised that even thought the paper is thin, there is no bleed through to the other side of the pages.
