Hi. Thank you for making this video. How bad are the hills for this marathon? I am hoping at some point to run my first marathon (I am over 40) and want to finish. I do live in a hilly area and do hill training. I can handle gaining 100-200 feet of elevation from a quarter mile to longer distances. I would not want to do a marathon that has numerous 100-200 foot elevation increases and decreases.
@iRunOnBeer5 ай бұрын
I think this would be a tough first-marathon given the elevation. It has about 800ft of total elevation gain/loss, and almost all of that is in the first half. You really have to pace yourself early to make sure your legs have enough strength/energy to survive the back half. I made a VERY in depth report of the entire race if you're interested. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nYWTyM6Cp8bTgJM.html There are also two races at the beaches in southern Delaware, one in April and one in December. Those courses are dead flat. That's where I ran my first marathon.

nice video! I'm doing this as my first ultra in a couple weeks. Any course specific advice you have? It looked like your first half was 6:30 and your second half was 8:30 (minus I guess the mid race aid station break). Would you say you hit a wall or is that slow down from first half to second half pretty typical? I've never done this many miles before so thinking I might die haha
@iRunOnBeer6 ай бұрын
Good luck! It's such an awesome race. I actually did feel pretty good throughout, albeit pretty stiff by the end for sure. I think the biggest contributer to the slower 2nd half was time spend in aid stations (especially the halfway mark). We flew through stops on the first loop, but took our time on the second. It got very cold oncd the sun went down so we were happy to wait as long as necessary to enjoy some hot ramen. The climbs are substantial, so be prepared for that, take advantage of the downhills when you can. High socks can help save you from all the tall grass that'll cut up your legs. And lastly, beware of ROCKS! Big ones will trip you up, but the loose rocks can be just as dangerous. As long as you watch your footing, you'll be alright, but don't let your guard down!

Busch Light was an old favorite of mine. I'll still grab an 18 pack every now and then but I don't see them as much by us.
might not be a coincidence that the two beers in green bottles (more susceptible to light exposure and thus off notes) were last
Agreed! And also possibly since they don't technically fall into the "Light Beer" category.
I'll be grabbing some yingling light.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
So glad I found this video! I just signed up for my first 100k spur of the moment. The last few years have been a busy, working 60+ hours a week, so my goal for increasing from 50ks and trail marathons fell by the wayside. I still work a lot, and can’t let training take over or negatively impact the rest of my life, so the 3-4 runs a week with strength and yoga, becoming overall fit and arriving at the start uninjured, are my goals. Just subscribed, looking forward to following your training!
That's awesome! The best race registrations happen on a whim in my opinion. When's the big race? The good news is, the training program paid off and I made it across the 100-miler finish. It was a brutal race, but we got it done! I think the strength training can really make a huge difference in those later miles to keep you upright and moving well.
You got this man! Just think of how sweet the drinks will taste in the Florida heat after all these races!
Can't wait! The hard part will be not celebrating too hard on Saturday since I'll have to get up and do it all again on Sunday! 🍻
A little moderation never hurt anyone! But also little moderation can be the downfall so moderate accordingly? lol
first marathon also for men sub 3:30 in paris, I use my garmin daily suggested workouts combined with race prediction
How do you like the Garmin recommendations? I've only used them occasionally.
@@iRunOnBeer recommandations are good, but you must track precisely your sleep / rest time. It's recommended to record the workouts as soon as they are recommended if you don't track (1 week in advance).
I really need a tutorial on how to tighten the belt. I’ve struggled to keep it on my waist while running
It's weird, mine seems to fit me differently depending on the day. I use the slider to tighten/loosen as needed. Depending on what I'm carrying, I sometimes get some bounce to the strap. I've actually often started wearing the pouch in the front which seems to stay more secure.
drinking out of the bottle , says everything , needs to be in a glass .. you havent a clue
Tasted them how I would actually drink them. I never drink light beer out of a glass.
Thank you! I really appreciate your feedback and advice. Will check out your video.
Hardest part of packing is when your done.😢
And the panic that you forgot something essential
@@iRunOnBeer100%. I now pack a rescue bag if I'm headed up north. Unfortunately you can't do that if your headed for a plane 😕.
I'd like to see a taste test between Pbr, Busch, budweiser, High life and Corona. Non lite cheap beers.
That would be a fun test! The hardest part is finding places to buy single beers for the test! I don't need 6 packs of everything 😂
My 1st Marathon event will be 15 Weeks from now. I am searching for various source to do the training plan and yours is the most "delicious" one and it is very specific to marathon. This kind of workout is very new to me (usually i did threshold like 3x10minutes etc) and your plan is very different and as a logical person, i think this plan will work for my Marathon. Very happy to find your video when i need it the most!
I hope it helps! My only recommendation would be to make sure you're comfortable with the high volume training before adding this much speed work. It can certainly be daunting! I opted for Hal Higdon's plans for my first few marathons. I found them to be a bit more approachable as a beginner.
You should purr into glasses to open them up
For light beers, I only ever drink them out of cans/bottles so I wanted to taste test how I actually drink them. Also, for visuals, it's much easier for the viewer to know which is which.
Great inspiration. Starting my first challenge tomorrow. Bring it!
Hell Yea! Good luck! Be sure to check back in to let me know how it goes!
@@iRunOnBeerFinished #12 with midnight run and learned so much during this time. I was ready to grind through alone. Thankfully I had a friend willing to do the daytime segments with me. Support is important, so I would recommend checking in with friends or family as you go. By far the 8pm, 12 am runs were the hardest to get motivated for. It’s all about putting out the shoes and getting ready about 15-20 mins beforehand so I wouldn’t lose the will. I did have to start walking a bit more towards the end, but got the job done. My goal was to stay around 40 mins per session. Really appreciate you documenting your process. Got me mentally prepared with a positive mindset.
@@Stevo79er Way to go! Every time I do it, I learn so much along the way. I couldn't agree more about the motivation, it's tough to find on those night runs, especially when everyone else is asleep. But it feels awesome checking off each and every run along the way.
@@iRunOnBeer thanks for the reply! I'm hoping to do this in the 13-14 range, so similar time. was hoping to be out of the lodge aid in under 6 and then come home in under 13, but that's probably best case
@@HikingEngineer Just keep moving! That was my biggest takeaway from jumping between 100k - 100 miler. The aid station time really adds up. I started carrying ziplocks in my pack so I can just fill them with aid station goodies to eat on the trail!
@@iRunOnBeer Yeah I was just planning on grabbing 2 gels, filling my bottles w/ water and electrolytes, and getting a salt tab or two at each aid (maybe 2 min stop). If you are into hiking I have a channel with a ton of hiking all over the western US!
@@HikingEngineer Just subbed 👍 Don't be afraid to dip into the solid food. The Tejas Races have some AMAZING options. I went hard into the Ramen, Quesadillas, and Pickles. It's hard to keep on top of the calories with just the gels.
Love it
