    do u have a sketch for that knife?

  • @mikchrungBLADES
    @mikchrungBLADES19 күн бұрын

    I don't really keep any sketches of any of the knives I make. I'd just have a rough shape in my head and then I draw it out, finalize the design, cut out the paper and just paste it on to the steel and just go from there. Thank you for watching..

    What type of wood is better for sheaths? soft or hard woods?

  • @mikchrungBLADES
    @mikchrungBLADES21 күн бұрын

    Ok for sheaths stabilised softwood are the best. Pine and poplar are great. Hardwood tends to bend and warp overtime.👍

  • @Argentuza

    5:06 The sheath doesn't fall out, how do you keep it in place? is it just the pressure of the wood against the blade?"

  • @mikchrungBLADES
    @mikchrungBLADES21 күн бұрын

    My friend If you carve the wood accurately enough in the shape of the blade and the bevel and plunge lines ans so on, it always fits tightly like the handle of a katana. Thank you for watching and commenting. Making of competition chopper coming in few days. Check it out.

    Good job ! I think it broke because of 2 things : 1 - maybe the edge was too thin 2 - more important, i think it was too hot Try not to heat the steel very much above the point where it looses magnetisme, or it can warp, break and will be a lot more brittle because of the grain size in the steel.

  • @mikchrungBLADES
    @mikchrungBLADESАй бұрын

    You are right my friend, I have broken and cracked many knives because I quench the steel too hot. Yes and if the edge is too thin it tends to crack or sometimes come wavey. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Thank you. I really enjoy your videos. I am interested in how you straighten leaf springs. If you could please include this in one of your videos, I would be appreciative.

  • @mikchrungBLADES
    @mikchrungBLADESАй бұрын

    My friend there's nothing much to straightening leaf spring or any other steel. If the steel is not yet hardened and tempered you just have to heat up the steel till it's red/yellow and hammer it till it's straight. If it has been hardened, e.g. if a knife warped/bent after quenching, I first temper it and I cover the cutting edge with wet cloth and wrap wires around so the cloth don't fall off, I tighten it in a vise then heat the spine up to bluish colour and start bending it back hard over the straight line of the blade hold it there and pour water over it.reapeat till it's straight.Sometimes this takes several hours. But eventually the blade will straighten and the temper on the cutting edge is not affected. Thank you for watching and your comment.

    Thank you everyone for watching and commenting. I just wanted to let everyone know that i wish i could upload videos more often but as you've seen i have no power tools or a proper workshop. And making a knife the way i do takes about ten times as long without proper equipments. Plus i shoot the videos myself, make the knives, also edit and upload them and all with just a $120 phone. So you can imagine how making one videos takes everything i have everytime. But thank you for your understanding and your patience. Making of a big chopper/cleaver coming soon.

    What does a simple belt grinder cost where you live?

  • @mikchrungBLADES
    @mikchrungBLADES9 ай бұрын

    Brother, Where I live there is no where I can purchase a belt grinder. I have to order even simple tools like round files online. Even if I could afford a belt grinder I would have to cross a few states into central part of India to buy one.
