    Awesome video! I was able to link all my home devices to my DIY home server in like 15 minutes. I was watching other videos that used DuckDNS, but this is way simpler and easier! Love it! Edit: I'm not one to like KZread videos, but you get a like!

    Hey Jeff Now that 1) I have truenas scale set up 2) my data pool is created 3) smb is enabled 4) my truenas users are created 5) the users have access to the smb share folder 6) zerotier is configured and is installed on truenas 7) Jellyfin is installed on truenas 8) Jellyfin has access to my smb shared folder on truenas 9) i added data to the smb shared folder How do access Jellyfin remotely and use it like Netflix/Spotify?

    Thanks for watching! in your case to access the server remotely of jellyfin just put the ip address that Zerotier assigned to your Truenas follow by the Port Number if i am not mistaken the default port number is 8096 and be sure to verify on the jellyfin you installed on your truenas that you have checked Host Network to access the server

    Hello again i made a few testing with the SMB shares and was able to access it on my side i made a few testing with a phone and a computer used a hotspot to connect to a difference network connected the different computer and phone to the tailnet both of then successfully was able to access the Truenas Scale Server for the Tailscale Configuration everything is the same the only thing i need to enable is the Bind Network to access the server after that i decided to make a new folder for my user in the truenas scale and made it accessible for that specific user i also restared the SMB Share Service to see if any issues was given sadly i did not get the issue that failed to connect to the SMB Share but stopping the service and restarted work again like normal i also made a new datasheet for it to see if it causes me any issues so far i have been able to connect with no issues to the SMB Share over the provided ip via tailscale nothing else in my part has been change for the SMB Share Creation i did ADD choose the folder then Create Datasheet in the Purpose area stayed the same Default Share parameters nothing else was modified everything else remained default i Hope this helped in any way possible

  • @JeffComputerService
    @JeffComputerService6 күн бұрын

    You would need to download the tailscale app on to your iPhone once you do that and connect your phone to the tailnet just copy the IP of the jellyfin server provided by tailscale and the port number and it should automatically open your server Hope this answers your question 😁

  • @JeffComputerService
    @JeffComputerService6 күн бұрын

    I do not think this is an improvement but you can also open jellyfin on your browser phone just type in the IP provided by tailscale and the port number 192.x.x.x:8096 and watch your videos from there at least for me it works better than the app itself And if you're gonna make jellyfin server. I recommend keeping it making it on a different computer or a virtual machine so the resources stay stable and just mainly focus on jellyfin

    How does this work for behind a router? My router can do tailscale by itself or a VPN server both openvpn or wireguard. Do both the nas and router need tailscale on them?

  • @JeffComputerService
    @JeffComputerService13 күн бұрын

    I at the moment do not have a router that does tailscale for me but in your situation you can just install tailscale on the NAS following the step by steps in the video and then add another client in this case a computer or phone and install tailscale on them once that is done both the NAS and the other device you connected should already be connected on the same tailnet of (tailscale) just by putting the IP it got from tailscale you should immediately be able to connect to it remotely with no issues I hope this helped 😁

  • @JeffComputerService

    Well yes, it is more secure using tailscale you are not opening any ports in your Router, instead you are making your own VPN server with tailscale using this server, any computer you connect to it will have access to connect to it from anywhere and you can remove it at anytime you want 😀 Hope this helps 😁

  • @JeffComputerService

    Well technically use a strong password for the admin account you make on the jellyfin server and secondly setting up remote access for it using tailscale that is a VPN. you are hiding it and only giving it access to certain computers on your server if anyone wants to access your media server they will the IP address of it or know a account you made on the server the user and pass. Hope this helps 😁 answer your questions or doubts

    Do we need to install Tailscale client on Windows VM , As we have installed the Tailscale on the Proxmox node , in this case we can only access Proxmox Mode. Can we access Windows VM remotely outside the local network?
