    bump map are replaced by normals map for fine details years ago, it's mean normals map are superior and also you don't need bump map when you already have normals map. Yes you can combine bump map and normals map, but in the end we only need normals map

  • @JamesMiddletonDesign
    @JamesMiddletonDesign27 күн бұрын

    Yes, that is true and you raise a very valid point. I do prefer using normal maps. However, one trick I like to use (as you have hinted); 1. Use normal maps for the custom height information. 2. Use bump for the smaller, tiling detail. Win-win! Thanks for your thoughts.

  • @kaizu4914

    @@JamesMiddletonDesign yes you are right, bump map can easily working with for fine details using brush or procedural texture without the need to bake normals from sculpted high poly model which is very heavy. And as far as I know, bump map still have to be converted into normals map for readable in render engine. So if you have bump map and normals map, you need to combine them into 1 normals map, remove the need of calculating from bump map, therefore reduce graphics computing load and gain more performance, especially in Game engine.

    @@kaizu4914 That's interesting. Thanks for your thoughts on this. It makes sense. After all, you can combine many normal maps. I forgot to mention in the previous comment that I am the video's author...just using a different account. I'm going to dig deep into this. It's always good to refresh the way we do things from time to time.

    Hey Blender Bones! Awesome tutorial, also your voice is epic. I have a quick texturing question. When I fill the holes with the "f" key, the texture has a stretched look to it. I didn't think much of it since I was going to use the stamp tool on top anyway. However, after baking when I got to the stamp tool step, any mark I made on the hole, was then painted many other places on the model. How can I use the stamp tool and have it localized to the part of the mesh I'm working on?

    id come back and follow the tutorials every time if these were put into series with follow up vids. i find it very easy to listen to your videos unlike the others ive seen so far. im a complete beginner and im struggling with finding a proper path to follow in my head to where i need to start and end up. the nodes confuse the hell out of me and i find im always frustrated cause im just adding and clicking without knowing what most of it does . I just seem to be getting nowhere , i have no money so cant afford all these paid courses at all. I really want to learn but i cant find anything that really teaches me all thelittle things. its all spread about through different versions , different channels that tell you half the story and ultimateley want you to pay $500 to buy their course that doesn tell you it either. its so hard finding a proper learning path , and if i do its 4 or 5 years old lol ..HELP! lmao where do i go ? what do i do ? and who do i listen to?

    I understand. There is no single answer from a technical standpoint that will help here. My advice is this: keep on "playing" with Blender. And I use that word intentionally. Have fun. Don't be afraid to experiment. And set yourself goals: start off creating rocks, and then move on to mountains (analogy). I hope that helps.

For me, being a beginner, you talk MUCH (!!) to fast and you dont show WHERE to click. Maybe I am not the only one, not knowing "out of x-ray mode" ... Sorry... If this should be a tutorial, one should be able to follow, is my opinion. 😊

    I'm running into the unfortunate issue where when I bake following all of the steps shown here, I get a blank checkered background in the image editor. I have triple checked all of my settings relative to the tutorial. I have ensured that I have High Res selected first, followed by Low Res, and I've ensured I have "Diffuse" deleted in the Shader node editor. No idea what's going on. Any thoughts? Editing to clarify I am on "Version 4.1.0 (4.1.0 2024-03-26)".

    I think I finally tracked it down after a lot of headache... I changed my view Render samples to 8, not my actual render samples to 8.While my "bake" was completing, my only theory is that it was so unreasonably large that it didn't bake properly.

    First of all, fantastic tutorial! You've really nailed it the balance between detail and conciseness! Just one note for people watching - a small bump that I encountered while following along: if the Displacement Settings aren't showing up in the Materials section, change your render engine to Cycles. If your engine is Eevee you won't see that option. To change the render engine, go to Rendering in the top menu, look for the "Scenes" section and then select "Cycles" as the Render Engine.

  • @blenderbones
    @blenderbones2 ай бұрын

    Thanks for the tips! Very true. I might have neglected to mention that? I think there is a plan to have displacement in Eevee soon. Perhaps even the next version release.

    Great tutorial. I'm curious, is there any advantage to using this method as opposed to modelling first, then sculpt with multires and then bake out the details and apply to original low-poly mesh? Seems the method you have demonstrated might be better in this case because of the larger displacements of the bricks. Also, you don't need to worry about animating it. I suppose it all comes down to what you are modelling.

  • @blenderbones
    @blenderbones2 ай бұрын

    Yes, that method is better. However, I thought I'd go for this approach as a way of getting people using the basic sculpt tools. Also, it does allow for greater control and is a little more tactile. Just takes a lot longer. Thanks for your thoughts.

    Tip to find where in the mesh a UV section relates to: There's a button called "UV Sync Selection" in the top left of the UV editor (It's two diagonal arrows going in opposite directions next to the select mode) that keeps UV and edit mode mesh selection in sync so you can click faces in your UV and it will light up on the mesh.
