I'm just about to enrol on 102 and I understood less than 10% of this, so many signs I don't know, now considering if its worth the humiliation
@stevemasterman4439Ай бұрын
I don't understand why you want to do a "what not to do" in BSL. Its programming it. Everyone is trying to know what TO on the exams. showing what not to do is poor teaching technique. Haven't watched it and won't.

As this is an lesson to support level 1 exams I love that you don’t have any subtitles or voice over. The toughest part is”Receptive training”. So, this is perfect. Plus I can watch repeatedly. I need to teach my muscle memory to absorb information through my Visual Reception. Plus your Lip Patterns and Facial Expressions are true BSL. Hearing teachers facial expressions and Lip Pattern, don’t always help as they sometimes seem unnatural. Thank you!

I find it super frustrating at my GP surgery. Because I can talk they presume I can hear so don’t need support. They refuse to book me interpreters and instead have told me to bring my parents along to help me. I only started going deaf 2 years ago and I am learning sign language. My parents don’t know sign so can’t translate to me. I now have moderate/severe loss in both ears and spend most of the appointments asking them to repeat themselves or write it down. It’s worse at the moment during lock down because my GP has moved to phone call only appointments. This means I have to get my parents to call for me and type to me what is being said or repeat back clearly. I’m 27 years old and don’t want to have to use my parents as a communication tool at my age. I have the same issue with the mental health service as they are phone call only and I have been needing support for a while now. It’s getting sorted but everything has to go through my dad 1st so he can pass the information on to me

Good, common-sense issues. There are issues about registration at present: Many BSL teachers & assessors work part-time, paid only term-time. With the increase of online teaching there maybe be a bigger impact upon struggling BSL teachers & assessors to find face-to-face work, colleges changing lesson styles and lack of proper monitoring of good BSL teaching. If we achieve BSL teachers & Assessors registration, it's not free. We must consider a very reasonable rate, please, to support the majority of BSL teachers, assessors, Deaf Instructors, Deaf teachers, Deaf Education staff delivering BSL in schools and more.

Very expressive and clear signs but way too fast! I'm to;ld that fluent BSL signers struggle with finger spelling but you zipped through your name in a blur. I'm practising for 101 and had hope this would be a good practice video but if that's the speed exected, then I don't stand a chance

Simon, It's much different when you are one on one. trust me. It's also ok to ask 'again please'. They are patient with you. practice finger spelling the whole verse to your favourite songs but in the mirror or video yourself doing it and watch back. repetition is your best friend.

@@The48lawsofpower hi thank you for your encouragement . I eventually passed level 1 and got 1/2 way through level 2 before life got too busy. Since then I have lost a complete finger so finger spelling is now physically impossible as I have no "E"!

Hi, Thank you for your feedback. It is a valid point but the reason that the video’s do not have subtitles are because they are not a tool to teach vocabulary/signs. The aim for these clips were a ‘How to’ complete the assessments. Therefore, one would have already had the vocabulary training, and at this stage, ought to be able ‘read’ the signs and is therefore ready for the Level 1 exams. Much like how someone is almost ready to take a spoken language assessment but would like a bit of practice in a) the language itself and b) how the assessment will be conducted.
