As this is an lesson to support level 1 exams I love that you don’t have any subtitles or voice over. The toughest part is”Receptive training”. So, this is perfect. Plus I can watch repeatedly. I need to teach my muscle memory to absorb information through my Visual Reception. Plus your Lip Patterns and Facial Expressions are true BSL. Hearing teachers facial expressions and Lip Pattern, don’t always help as they sometimes seem unnatural. Thank you!

Hi, Thank you for your feedback. It is a valid point but the reason that the video’s do not have subtitles are because they are not a tool to teach vocabulary/signs. The aim for these clips were a ‘How to’ complete the assessments. Therefore, one would have already had the vocabulary training, and at this stage, ought to be able ‘read’ the signs and is therefore ready for the Level 1 exams. Much like how someone is almost ready to take a spoken language assessment but would like a bit of practice in a) the language itself and b) how the assessment will be conducted.

Hi 👋 Signing and Reading are different skills. I'm told I sign well, but I really struggle to comprehend. My Level 1 exam was half this speed, and I know most of my class would have struggled at this speed. Speed comes in time, but not at level 1. 🙂

Thank you, my assessment is on 29th, got most of it down but my reading of finger spelling is still slow.

Very expressive and clear signs but way too fast! I'm to;ld that fluent BSL signers struggle with finger spelling but you zipped through your name in a blur. I'm practising for 101 and had hope this would be a good practice video but if that's the speed exected, then I don't stand a chance

Simon, It's much different when you are one on one. trust me. It's also ok to ask 'again please'. They are patient with you. practice finger spelling the whole verse to your favourite songs but in the mirror or video yourself doing it and watch back. repetition is your best friend.

@@The48lawsofpower hi thank you for your encouragement . I eventually passed level 1 and got 1/2 way through level 2 before life got too busy. Since then I have lost a complete finger so finger spelling is now physically impossible as I have no "E"!
