Ho anche difficoltà a definire una cucina nazionale. L’Italia ha il vantaggio di avere piatti emblematici, facili da mangiare e facilmente esportabili, come la pizza, la pasta e il risotto. Non esiste un vero equivalente di questi piatti in Francia (ma, a parte questi piatti e pochi altri, non credo che si sappia molto della cucina italiana in Francia. Ad esempio, ho letto che c'erano piatti italiani con insolite verdure e frattaglie, che mi piacerebbe moltissimo ma non ho mai avuto modo di assaggiare). Esistono almeno due tradizioni culinarie in Francia: la cucina cosiddetta “locale”, che tradizionalmente si tramanda all'interno delle famiglie, con prodotti locali e spesso poco costosi, e la cucina gourmet, molto elaborata, con salse e prodotti ricercati. Spesso è proprio questa seconda cucina ad essere conosciuta in tutto il mondo, ma in realtà è poco consumata in Francia.

I wonder if Italian also has a "honour" speech. As in German we address and talk to strangers as if they were a lord/ lady by default which is in my opinion the main reason to why we can come across as cold to strangers, as such encounters are somewhat ritualized and stay on the "honour" level. You only truly get to know a German once s/he introduces him/herself again with his/her first name and changes over to the jovial familiar speech (hence also the stereotype about our lack of humour - we don't joke around with strangers. There is a world of a difference between strangers and familiars in terms of speech and behaviour here)

Im from Italy and I find germans very cold, stiff and very closed minded. I noticed how they plan every single social interaction and I find it very strange. Also, they never tell you things in your face which results to appear as fake and polite. I really like german music tho and german art is very fascinating.

Molto interessante. Nel passato, usavo molto la parola "disponibile" per descrivere se un appartamento era "disponibile" per affittare. Però, un'italiana mi ha corretto e ha detta che la parola giusta è "libero". Sono curiosa, c'è una parola italiana per descrivere se una persona "è libera"? Per esempio, se voglio chiedere a qualcuon, "sei disponibile per una chiacchierata dopo?" È giusto o c'è una parola meglio di usare?
Sono sempre stato un fanatico di geografia italiana e non, il nostro paese ha delle curiosità assurde, alcune da voi menzionate. Siamo l’unico al mondo ad avere due micro stati al suo interno, abbiamo anche un’exclave, un territorio fuori dall’Europa intesa come continente, e molte altre peculiarità !
I believe Italians take life a little easier than let’s say the United States. They’re not always in a rush and their diet is far more superior than other countries. I would like to live as long as my mental health is good and physical health is good.

The gelato in Italy is very good. .....but.....we stayed in apartment for two months, and the little town where we stayed did not have gelato shop. We had gelato in the larger cities close by. This being said, the gelato/ice cream in the grocery stores in italy is just okay. Not horrible. The U.S. has pretty good grocery store ice cream compared to other countries.

It's crazy how italians gesticulate all the same. This guy is from the South. I've had a friend that gesticulate the same. Bring it more content.
"Dai" is one that seems to have multiple meanings.
Quando ero più giovane, ovviamente mi piaceva vivere in città perché c'era molto da fare, con tanti ristoranti, eventi pubblici, eccetera. Ma adesso preferisco qualcosa di più tranquillo e apprezzo molto di più il valore e la libertà che viene con avere una macchina. Sono più felice fuori città. Quando vivevo in una grande città, mi mancava sempre la natura, e anche qui negli Stati Uniti, la sicurezza è sicuramente una cosa da considerare. Ma sì, con una macchina, penso che vivere nella periferia di una città offra tutti i vantaggi di una vita in centro senza gli svantaggi. Non c'è traffico, le strade sono molto più pulite…e sì, magari può sembrare noioso, ma posso sempre andare in un nuovo parco nazionale, prendere una birra con un'amica o anche visitare una nuova città.

A lesson hard, hard learned to eat in Europe: Ask for the food as the chef recomends. You will be way better treated. ESPECIALLY in France, where the "not french" version of foods is an invitation to be treated like a dog. Sorry, guys, I do love ya, but a lot of you are awful with tourists.

One of the things that was a little challenging in your course was getting corrections to my recordings by an instructor speaking Italian. It's hard to make the corrections when you can't understand what they are! Otherwise, this is a great episode. I'm currently working with a tutor on iTalki and she has mentioned several of the points you make. It's great to get additional validation on the techniques I'm learning.
I once bought an Americano from Starbucks in Seattle, WA, USA and they gave me this HUMONGOUS cup! I couldn't drink it all!

I was wearing a long khaki colored linen skirt and a black tee shirt the last time I was in Florence, and two different women spoke to me in Italian, both asking directions. I knew mostly what they were asking, but could not really answer effectively in Italian. It was fun though!

Adoro il caffè. È un rituale molto importante per me ogni mattina. Ne prendo uno con un libro. È un ottimo modo di cominciare la giornata. Normalmente preferisco un cappuccino o un americano dalla macchinetta espresso, ma dipende dal giorno. Mi piace anche la moka, ma onestamente non ho due ore per fare una tazza di caffè.
Vorrei sapere parlare un po’ di italiano quando io stato in Napoli da giovane al 1989, oggigiorno si è facile da imparare però 35 anni fa’ non era cosi, ma ancor di più io sempre iniziato con le parole che sapevo come :per favore, grazie etc.

Me and my wife went to rome, it was beautiful and the people were amazing, the one thing we had a problem with was transport, we got on a bus bought a ticket and we got fined by the police who came on the bus to check tickets, £90 fine on the first day, apart from that the people are beautiful and smiley ☺️
Da italiano rispetto allo spagnolo preferisco il portoghese brasiliano. Trovo lo spagnolo una lingua troppo piatta e troppo veloce. Invece le canzoni le preferisco in inglese.
