Topper Machine LLC

Topper Machine LLC

Topper Machine LLC is a Manual Only, Machining, Welding, and Fabricating job shop located in Spooner, WI. I am Josh Topper, Owner of Topper Machine LLC. I started out in machining in High School. I worked in a punch press shop and learned a lot about Tool and Die work. I really enjoyed that work, but I had to move on. I went to an OEM and worked my way to lead machinist. I helped streamline their production with my knowledge of tooling. After that, I opened my own shop in 2012.

If you want to see cool machines and me running them, you are in the right place. I work in many fields and perform many out of shop services as well. My channel will focus on our shop services and equipment, along with some of these out of house activities and interests.

Machine Shop videos every Saturday morning at 6:00AM CST. Other content will be Wednesday morning, 6:00AM CST as available.

going back though your older shows to see what I have missed before I came across you, one question is why did you keep all the cable that is came with? If you were to cut the cable in about half you would still have more then you would need, but it would take up a little faster and would not build up on the drum so much. But it's your build and it works as is so keep on doing it your way, you have a great channel and building the tools to get it done is the most fun a machinist can have.

i've got 4 clamps like that that are mini size for my desktop cnc. They work amazing for biting into the aluminum and wood.

@@MechanicalAdvantage I don't hate it. I don't have any use for it, but I send out stuff for CNC work all the time. For low volume work like I do, it can never compete with manual. Almost half of my customers now are CNC shops that utilize me for their low volume work.

I like the dry ice production. I've used gas grills, ovens, and salamander heaters to warm the part. Shrink fitting is the best! We all need a little excitement now and then!

Years ago I did a very similar job but what we didn’t know was the face we clamped down wasn’t square to the bore so when we machine it the wheel had a wobble so we clock up the outer wheel face using a rotating table and re machined what should have been a simple job turn into a very complex job suck a life for a machinist

Gorgeous coupling. My first thought was, "How is Josh going to split that baby?" Using the band saw didn't come to mind, but since you already had the slit it made sense. Thanks for another scintillating video! 🙂

Love these follow-ups almost more than the original video. For these repeats jobs where you're got a good process dialed in that works for you, have you considered ever covering some of the prior techniques that either didn't work or worked less well? I find learning from past failures or less successful attempts are great sources for learning.

Shucks. I guess I’ll have to quit watching your videos as I ain’t much of an adjustable wrench guy! LOL! It’s all good! Since Anchor lube is water soluble, how much rust do you see with it? I would like the option of flood cooling (or any cooling for that matter) but I need coolant so infrequently that I am very reluctant to try a water based product. For now I use WD-40 which is helps but is certainly not the best nor is it really a coolant, just sort of a lube. Pretty sure your it was on your videos that I first became aware that vertical slotters existed. I can see why you like it so much.

1:26 not safe to use as an air tank? Well you would be 100% wrong as propane is 200psi and most air tanks are 150psi. Still watching the video but they're tested at factory I believe to be 600+psi when recertified.
