  If David would’ve done it nowadays, he would have been sued because that’s stealing a beat. He’s just lucky that he got massively, famous and wealthy. Honestly, I don’t know how anyone can respect him for that. It would’ve been respectable if he would’ve paid the people he took the beats from.

  I didn't make the connection that it was a direct rip-off, but I've noticed for years that alot of early 90's "grunge" has grooves borrowed from funk. Instead of a straight rock feel, it's a slowed down funk feel.

  This album caused me some trouble back in the day. Fundamentalists went on an album-burning tear, and they wanted me to give up 2112, which they thought had a pentagram on it. I refused, despite a lot of pressure from family and friends.

  LOL The same dude that goes cool to that story would probably say Charlie Wilson and the Gap Band, Cameo, Rick James, etc., doesn't belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because they're not "Rock and Roll." It's more than just pigment, folks! That's only surface deep.

  David Fincher approached Michael Stipe to play the character of John Doe in the movie, Se7en. Stipe declined, though when Kevin Spacey came on board to play the role, he took many qualities of stipe, including the shaven head and incorporated them in the role.

  I remember an REM engineer once saying that when he did playbacks with most bands, each of the members would want their parts pushed up in the mix, but with REM, each of the members wanted their parts to be moved lower in the mix.

  Few bands sound like the eighties like this band does. I was there. I lived it while it was happening. And a lot of REM songs were on that soundtrack.
