Did I hear that Stirling Moss considered the (slow?) 750cc Class "dangerous"? That'd be kinda ironic considering his sister, Pat Moss drove for Saab and was quite successful. Also, she married Erik Carlsson, the very well known Saab driver who captured the Monte Carlo trophy in 1964 in a Saab 96.

I would say you should go for the "Saab sport" not the "montecarlo" since sport are the shortnose version and the montecarlo is the longnose. For an example on the shortnose you have the radiator behind the engine, longnose the radiator in infront of the engine.. Kinda the same engine with seperated oil tank and so on... Good luck with the project. Saab sport/montecarlo parts aint cheap :(

Hi Pepin, fascinating story - I'm a real SAAB fan - had 7 so far. I started in 1972 with a 1963 SAAB 96, 2 stroke, 3 cylinder, with 841cc engine. It was fantastic and nwent like a rocket. ALWAYS plenty of spare clean spark plugs in the boot, as they would clog up pretty easily ! I wish you would just rebuild yours into an everyday car though - I'm not into rallying and it seems such a shame for such a rare car to be ruined - in my opinion ! Good luck - take care 🙂. Michael in England.
