After the disaster with a new 2020 cub cadet that has had electrical problems after the first year in the shop for warranty 2 times and now a fire from a dead short out of warranty I’m done with the big box MTD stuff I’m looking to buy a pro cut S with the Kawasaki engine . It reminds me of the good old Yazoo units from the 70s I worked on a a teen at a golf course in Miami they were indestructible! And seeing yours from the 90s still running can’t beat that !

I have the Ferris IS5100. It has the 33hp CAT. It's a beast. I use it to mow around the edges of fields, around the barns and lawn. I go through some heavy stuff from time to time with no trouble. I just don't see the need for that much horsepower in a lawnmower. And 36k now? When mine was new in 2009, you could get it for around 12 to 13k.
I absolutely agree that 33 horsepower is more than enough to run a 72-in deck. I have a Kubota diesel zero turn at 26 horsepower with a 60 inch deck and I can probably run a 72-in deck since I've never felt any significant lugging with it thus far

There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

All ride ons work fine on flat open ground, What if I need to jump the curb as if to treat medians and park ing strips . Will these units climb up and over a 8" curb, how stable are they on slopes?

Deck hangers look cheesy has heck! You can see the deck wobbling all over the place!
Was thinking the same. If the deck hit something at 12mph the mower would drive right over the deck before you could stop. What a site.

With such a big heavy duty expensive machine why is the deck not shaft driven?
I have a Kubota 26 hp diesel and the deck is shaft driven, then a belt to the blades
Have a Scag Cheetah, nothing, and I mean *nothing*, will out cut the Scag V+ deck. Goes faster, too. I like the Ferris, too. I just think the Scag Cheetah works better for the grass we have.

Does more horsepower even matter after a certain point? Blades, weather conditions, grass type, and cutting height are more important when it comes to quality.
Torque can help when going up moderate hills at full speed to keep blade rpm high at low full usage

I mow about 5 acres. Our yard used to be a feild. Very bumpy and very rough. The Feris takes it like nothing. The old simplicity is like taking off in a rocket ship. I have a small mowing business and use the feris. Best mower brand out there
