Has there ever been weather that disallows carrier operations, I understand Aircraft carriers have stabilisation beyond other ships but does it ever get so bad you can't land or take off, and if so what happens to jets in the air?

My dad was a CW04 and i got to spend some time on a few aircraft carriers, it was amazing. I have a question tho, you said you start up 45 min before launch, how much fuel is burned waiting and how much flight time would be lost as a result? Thanks for the videos there was not this kind of stuff to watch before my dad passed so I really enjoy learning about things he saw over his career.

We usually burn 1,000-1,800 pounds. 5-10 minutes of flight time lost, but we usually have tankers overhead.

Pail, Excellent video as always. As a retired Vark Fixer, Love the pure raw sounds of the cockpit with a double engine run. THAT is the real 'music', the real sounds of avionics and those F414's (TF30's in my case). Pilot and/or a Maintainer's oneness with the machine was a pure heaven like experience and I miss it.

I'm not a tanker pilot, (my son Alex is though), but I'd say the main difference in manipulating controls while in contact with a tanker is that your'e in formation. That mindset requires smooth, steady and precise yoke and throttle movement to enable a safe platform for the receiver. This will reduce his workload and keep inputs more predictable, and controlled and smooth.

Nice video… Quick question: after reforming on the right observation point, how do you separate from the tanker? I heard initially getting a 1000 foot vertical clearance by descending in formation below the tanker and then go on with the mission…
