That's a heck of a Christmas gift! That's for sure. The phone that quick was a good deal of money. Then add to that approx $500 a month?? Way too much money, but I know it can happen. I've been tempted. Men, do not do this as I'm sure Mike will agree. I think the rule I keep hearing, "Never consider sending any money till you have met them" is so accurate and true. Probably not even then, but who knows.

He never should have married her, plain and simple. If she can sell and keep the money, she isn't going back together with him. Cut and dry.

You know? My wife had our US money 90 percent of the time I was there. Every week she got some changed. She just gave me a few thousand pesos every few days. I wasn’t getting the money changed. So it was impossible for me to realize if I just paid 5,000 pesos for this or that and in my head saying that’s about $250 US or about how many pesos I bought for $250

I know dozens of Dominican women who have done that to American men...we Dominican men are shocked that you guys eat up their victimhood teary eye stories...most poor girls in these countries are chukis...and they like and want the male chuki as a partner and father of their kids, not the American granpa...Americans have difficulty processing this fact...yes they like security but they love being with their own because those are the men that make them laugh and feel exiting and relevant and bring drama to their lives....what they have is what they want even if it hurts....in fact the hurt is an essential part of it...the ones that will be faithful in the Philipines are a greater number than in the Caribbean, to be fair...nevertheless, all these young female hood girls and country girls with baby daddies galore are professional actors...I know one that convinced the gringo she was a widow and the whole six years the gringo was sending money weekly to put her kids through college he came to DR to visit every year for six to eight weeks every year and every year they went on vacations to resorts and good restaurants in taxis, a great life, except that the taxi driver that they had each year, the taxi driver the woman had said was her cousin, was actually her husband! A couple pimping the woman to put their kids through college....gotta give it to them....anyways...if you are gonna get all soft from a heartbreaking story like that you will die...Middle class people in the Philipines avoid most people from the socioeconomic class you guys hang out with....poor people are the same everywhere...I have Filipino friends in New York that don't pick up the phone from poor uncles and aunts from the provinces who call only to ask for money with a never ending litany of problems...most Filipinos don't frown on older American men with young Filipinas, but young Filipinas are like young people everywhere...when i was 18 to 22 I was in a fraternity at Syracuse University...if anyone would have asked if I wanted to trade that to work in Negril, Jamaica servicing older British grandmothers I would have looked at them like they are crazy...hell no! who wants to trade sorority girls for diapers and talcum powder...most Filipinas want economic stability but not all want a drama free life...

The last one is a common scam. I’ve had lots of attractive young women try to chat me up on Facebook. Knew they were up to something but never engaged. Finally found KZread videos explaining the scam and was exactly like your last example. Apparently it’s darn near an industry with rooms full of mostly young men pretending to be women trying to engage men on line. They have women available when they need someone to get on a video call. Not something I’m apt to fall for but do recommend extreme caution because they’re coming for you.

If I understand correctly... he will be moving over with $1,400 per month income ($1,900 income - $500 expenses) and his budget for his Philippines life is $800 per month. In addition he will have $6,000 for a start-up costs fund. AND he will also have an additional $45,600 in savings which is enough money to cover 2 FULL YEARS worth of that $1,900 per month total income. Basically he has an income to easily cover up to $1,250 per month Philippines living AND on top of that income he has ~$52,000 CASH in savings available for startup costs, emergency fund or whatever he needs it for. And he can return to the USA or he can sell the house to pay it off and make a nice lump profit. I think 10k php is too much - for example I just spent 5 minutes looking online and found a very nice newly remodeled 1 bedroom apartment in the Dumaguete area for 8,500 php per month + utilities and it has an air conditioner already. Everyone has a different level of risk tolerance and I would have no problem at all moving over with his setup. For me it would be a great life and I hope everything goes well for him.

Greetings: All relationships (interaction) is based on Mind. soul and body; 1, 2 or all 3 being the best case scenario. Myself, I seek all 3 in that order. I define and inform up front. Proper culture and home training contribute 2 the better of such. Trust is form of respect. Respect learned by culture and home training. Such is not normal practice in 2day's society. Lack of home training I figure. As such most close personal social relationships do not survive. Bottom line - reciprocate respect and love.

It reinforces why I will wait until I'm 60+ years old so can draw on my 401K with no penalties. What I would suggest for this person, get a management company that will handle everything from finding tenants to rental contracts and repairs. They manage the property for a cut $$ of everything but would only consider if he's in a state where property owners have rights. Then it doesn't matter if you live in the same town or 10,000 miles away. That also means he has a home in the USA to return if ever needed. While I question the $800 amount he's allocated the plan itself it good just he should plan to work a couple more years versus slumming it.

I think he has it thought out. Of course it won't go exactly as he has planned out but with a plan he should be able to make it work. I would probably advicse him to just sell his duplex because renters are an issue when you are not there. When you live overseas you don't want headaches back home to deal with all the time. Cheers!

Too any variables . Who is going to manage rental property? What happens if rent stops being paid? Sounds like older property What about major repairs tax and insurance increases? 800 dollars so about 46000 pesos a month . 10000 rent 5000 utilities 2000 visa 1000 cell phone 10000 food 2000 personal hygiene 3000 transportation 1000 medication. Entertainment? Companionship? No air con ? Tv? Furniture? Tax liability on 401k ? Biggest variable is girlfriend. That will add easy 10000 to budget. Possible yes , probability no .

I'm kind of with others on this thread in that a rental property 10k miles away makes me awful nervous. I'm unsure of where his property is located, but it sounds like it could have a pretty good value if sold. 400k invested properly in dividend-producing reits, etfs and the like will generate a moderate passive income while keeping his principal without the worry of the pitfalls others have mentioned. If he subsidized that with a consistent small income doing something online, that might be a better way to go. As is, it's a lot of worry and rusty hinges.

HEY MIKE I HAVE A QUESTION. I'M A 100% DISABLED VETERAN AND I'M DRAWING SOCIAL SECURITY ALREADY AT 56 YEAR'S OLD. MY MONTHLY TOTAL REVENUE IS A LITTLE OVER 5K PER MONTH AND I HAVE SOME SERIOUS CASH IN THE BANK. I NOTICED THAT THERE IS A VETERANS AFFAIRS HOSPITAL IN MANILA SO MY MEDICAL SITUATIONS MEDS AND ANY OTHER FUTURE MEDICAL SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF CORRECT? MY QUESTION TO YOU IS WHAT WOULD YOU SUPPOSE MY LIVING ARRANGEMENTS BE AS AN EXPAT? ALL MY BILLS ARE FULLY PAID AS OF CURRENT SO I WOULD BE COMING TO THE PHILLIPINES TOTALLY DEBT FREE. WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST I LOOK FOR? I'VE BEEN LIVING SINGLE FOR THE PAST 19 YEAR'S SO I'M ALREADY IN THE MINDSET OF JUST KEEPING TO MYSELF AND JUST SIMPLY ENJOYING MY LIFE AS IT IS RIGHT NOW SO NO MARRIAGES OR HAVING EVEN A LIVE IN GIRLFRIEND OR ANYBODY HAVING A PLACE FOR A TOOTHBRUSH MORE THAN 24 HOURS. PLEASE ANY THOUGHTS YOU HAVE WOULD GREATLY MOTIVATE ME. THANK YOU.

Hey Mike, happy Sunday brother. Yes, I’m loving it in the Philippines. 2 1/2 months into it and it’s been awesome. I’ll be returning back to the states probably at the end of the month or the first part of August but I will be returning to find a long-term rental and to make the Philipines my home. Looking forward to meeting you soon. I have been in Dumaguete we’re just over one week now and it’s been a great time and 😊

Sounds good. Am considering renting my house out also to retire in the Philippines. Has a new metal roof and new ac system. will finish replacing the plumbing before I go. Will rent to my son and sister in law. That way we have a place to live when we come visit and my son will still have a place to live. Not sure but am considering it. Especially if housing prices fall we will not sell it but don't think that will happen. Good video, Mike...Jim

If you want to know if $800.00 is enough? Remember 20 years from now it will still be $800.00. If you retire at 62 & you live 20 years. The last 10 years your going to be homeless if your lucky.

I live on $3000 a month in Cebu City. It would be very very hard to have the same lifestyle living on only 800 a month. No thanks, wouldn't do it. Plus, one medical emergency would wipe him out. A heart attack here is over $14000 dollars without insurance and that doesn't include follow up treatment. There isn't any Safety nets here in the Philippines. No cash for hospital=you die. Don't come here thinking you can beg and that foreigners will a part of your retirement plans.
