Personally the reason why I pick is smaller nations is because I don't want to start too powerful. The feeling of starting small and growing, feeling like you have ACHIEVED everything you have and not just begin with it + I don't want to spend so much time at the beginning of the match micro managing all the free provinces I got who have stuff set that I have NOT chosen because I began with it already given to me. I want it all to be mine and personally I mostly play CK3, I suck at any other Paradox Game. But if I fail I want to know that it was my mistake and not just the fact that I was lost in a big faction or that the reason I am thriving is just that faction and not my actions.

I guess what I’m about to ask isn’t a tier list, but it could be seen as a “modifier stacking” thing, but I wonder, what combination of nation forming, missions, religion, events and modifiers would give one the most amount of special units…? (Sorry, I get hyper fixated on tiny Eu4 mechanics, and think about them all the time, this time it’s special units.)

So what you explained at about 12:00 about AI not accounting for morale damage modifiers.... is this why so many american + african native countries just randomly decide to stack wipe themselves in fights they themselves pick? I've seen it happen more than once that the AI send their tech 4 20k stacks straight in to my tech 8 european 40k stacks.....

If the CK 2/3 end date and EU4 start date was just a little earlier, you could make a very reasonable argument that England would have won CK 2/3 as well. Soon before 1444, England controlled most of France and was on the precipice of wiping out the French monarchy, but then Joan of Arc happened and the war completely flipped. If England had most of France at the end/start date, then they could be considered to have won, since they are only a few steps away from forming an Angevin Empire, which would be perfectly positioned to dominate both the continent and the seas.

despite historically these nations have risen somewhere around 1500-1600s and already had fallen before year 1812, in late game EU4 I usually see Spain and the Ottomans in top 3 Great Powers, the Ottomans claiming military hegemon many times before me (because I just like playing tall and making a heaven out of whatever region I conquered rather than having late game wars).

most often it's just fun history, I liked Granada into Andalusia or growing as Byzantium or Butua into Rozwi for the story (and good ideas). I also like forming Rum which is basically just the Ottomans but forming a nation is always fun. I think the big nations especially spain and England for example are way too focused on colonial ideas to be really fun. Even Russia is fun because you form it from Muscovy but where's the fun in playing Poland? You get a PU, then you get a coalition after taking half a province in western Europe. Then you sit around.

In general, if we consider eu4 end date (1821) not in the game mechanics, but in historical reality, the victory is really for Russia. 7 years before that Russia had defeated Napoleon, its international prestige was at the highest level even possible, and Russia itself became the gendarme of Europe, created the Holy Alliance, which for some time dictated European politics. It was a very short hegemony, which started to shatter in 1830, but technically they won.

I disagree with the Victoria 2/3 winner. By 1936, I'd say the US is significantly more ascendant than the UK, even if the UK is not as ravaged as it would be by 1945, when the US establishes complete hegemony over the West. By 1936, the US was well under it's way to recovering from the Great Depression, many european countries were still beholden to it debt wise from WW1 lend leases and, as we find out in 1940, the US military is very good and surprisingly prepared for war.
