    Everyone is gonna ask the big question after this has just concluded a few minutes ago… HOW DID IT SURVIVE??? The flap literally looked like it had a bite taken out of it and it STILL worked?

  • @jameskelly3502
    @jameskelly35025 сағат бұрын

    It didn't "survive" It will never fly again and if crewed, the crew would be dead. A "WIN" for low standards.

  • @archierush868
    @archierush8684 сағат бұрын

    @@jameskelly3502it made it through reentry and even successfully did a flip manoeuvre onto water with a damaged forward flap. Is that a failure or a massive success when even when it was being slowly ripped apart, it still succeeds in performing the flip manoeuvre onto water? This is still a few years away from crewed flights but getting data on how well the ship performs under stresses like this is vital. It at least shows that in the extreme case of a large chunk of at least one flap being partially shredded, it may still survive but the best option is having that flap get more thermal protection so it won’t be shredded. It succeeded even when we thought it would fail.

    Cute but all sorts of aerodynamic issues to solve, let alone the technical issues of having two different types of engines (rockets and jets) and having very little space left for fuel. The burn to get it into orbit would consume huge amounts of fuel. A pretty video but I'd be very surprised if the thing would make it to the edge of the atmosphere let alone actually getting into orbit.

    This concept was used in the animation "Uchuu no Stellvia" or just *_Stellvia_* , the anime being propelled by a gravity generator, one of the central technologies of this work of science fiction.
