I have a plastic problem.
I have way too many model kits still in their boxes. So many in fact, that I probably won't live long enough to build and paint them all at the rate I'm going.
So this channel is here to incentivize me into doing something about that.
I'll be posting my progress here for all to see. Plus any other films I make of events that I go to.
I warn you - I'm lazy, have very little talent and even less free time. But I DO have an over-active guilty conscience.
So if you Subscribe, you'll put pressure on me to try harder. Do it to inspire me, or to make me suffer, but the Pile Of Shame must be vanquished.

@@hav6301 Could be, or Warmaster or Kings of War. I think that table was selling custom 3D print 10mm ranges, and the games were just there to show off the minis.

Too much emphasise on miniatures for my liking
Thanks for your feedback. Sorry, miniatures are what I'm into and to be honest they are far more visually interesting for a video than card games or endless merch stalls. What would you have liked to see more of specifically, so I know for next time?
It was buuuuusy. For my girlfriend who is a newcomer to events like this was a bit overwhelming. I love the variety of things. Wish it wasn't so packed to walked through and the air was very stuffy on Sunday. It was great but don't think we'd be back. 10/10 recommended if you haven't been. There's lots to see and lots to buy.
It was really busy on Friday too - I went then because I thought it would be quieter. Nope! 😂
On Saturday it was so busy you could hardly move around in Hall 1, Hall 2 was slightly better. It wasn't fun.

40k used to be great in the 90's... then came the money grubbers and, as usual, greed ruined the whole thing. Now its totally ridiculous...
I take a pragmatic view of it - the games industry needs a behemoth to make it mainstream and make the idea of miniature wargaming palatable to corporate investors, which will undoubtedly help smaller companies get funding and grow. But the nature of being a multinational public company means that there will be mis-steps and there will be money grabbing. At least we have a choice not to support GW if we so choose, and bizarrely that's because of GW getting so big. Without GW there'd be a toy company in charge, like Hasbro or Mattel. Even FFG couldn't keep the X-Wing franchise going by themselves, and that was a machine to print money. So GW giveth, and GW taketh away. And I doubt Salute would be as big as it is today without the awareness of the hobby that GW has helped bring to the masses. But I do totally see your point of view.

It was, I spent about 4 hours walking around. A good way to spend a Saturday.
Why didn’t you film the painting competition?
Two reasons - it was always busy and hard to get close to the models, but the biggest problem was the glass and lighting making it impossible to get a good view of the models, it was all reflections. I wouldn't have been able to do them justice (but I did film that helicopter with the motorised blades, I couldn't resist that one).

@@Heimdall1987 Thanks! But even from afar you wouldn't have seen anything of interest apart from a crowd and some Ikea furniture. And some people were taking way too long to look at the scantily clad Elf maiden models, I felt kind of dirty waiting for them to move on. 😆

According to @MiniatureAdventuresTV it's Peter's Paper Boys, ACW in 18mm.
All you need is a decent printer and some easy to acquire skill with a pair of scissors and you have armies and scenery for a fraction of the cost and time of 3d metal and plastic stuff.

Honestly, I couldn't even tell in some cases what games were being run and I was there. Branding and signage is not a strong point at Salute! Even with six and half hours I spent most of my time shopping and missed a lot of games. Great to see so many cool little games.
I ran around at the start looking for bargains at the usual suspects, then did a thorough sector-by-sector sweep of the game tables as if I was looking for a fugitive. 🤠
Salute is such a great event. I haven't been in years - but this felt so familiar! Thank you for sharing.

I didn't see any Kingdom Death or non-Warcrow Corvus Belli, and I just checked the guidebook and nothing is listed there (unless I missed it). But I'm not familiar with either game so maybe someone else can recognise it and point out the timecode.
@ModelPaintWhatever no no, not necessary, friend. Kingdom Death is extremely boutique and their booth would be of no small display. Same goes for Corvus Belli - not nearly as expensive as KD, but much larger an operation that their booth/tables would be very obvious. Thanks again! I don't think there is an award for best table, it would probably skew people towards spectacular crowd-pleasers and distract from the games themselves. I think everyone who went will have their favourite - mine was at 25.04 but I couldn't tell you what game they were playing (maybe What A Tanker?). Second place was at 14.55, and third was the Epic table at 22.55 (sorry, I do love me a bit of GW, although I don't think they earned much from what was on that table ;) ).

Oh it was a blast - but I had to force myself not to unbox anything until the video was done, and that waiting was the hardest bit. If I had gone to the trouble of labelling what I was filming (like you did) I'd probably still be doing it!

I didn't go this year. But I am planning for next year. I can get there in just under 5 hours, using my Scooterpac Cabin Car. 15.8 miles is a long way at the maximum pavement speed of 4 mph!
Kudos to you for sticking to the speed limit! Many's the time I've had to dive out of the way of F1 wannabe scooter cars. I bet it would come in handy up that last hill to Ally Pally though!
@@ModelPaintWhatever I doubt you have seen a Cabin Car. Look up Scooterpac. I have the only one in 3 London Boroughs. Ambulance Yellow, with beacon on the roof. The road journey would be impossible, as it is limited to 8 mph. I miss the days of being crew on a real ambulance.
The first layout had an Eddie Stobard lorry. I have two on one of my layouts, but, having been bullied by these "knights of the road", I changed the name to Eddie Stupid! People notice that "spelling mistake".
Ha ha! I remember a few years ago when Eddie Stobard were doing a big marketing push, trying to get the name everywhere. I'm not sure bullying was one of their strategies, but you never know.

Came up behind me, VERY close, and sounded his bullhorn. I just switched on my blues, he braked very hard, and pulled back. Then forced his way into the inside lane, right up the rear end of another vehicle, sounded his horn, they panicked, and went into the emergency lane. The hero of the roads then roared up behind a Land Rover towing a horse box, (I could see two horses inside it), sounded his bullhorn long and loud. He didn't give a damn about the fear he was instilling in the horses, nor the damage they could cause to themselves. I switched on my blues again, pulled up to his cab, and indicated right, moving across his front, forcing him to the hard shoulder. I sat there until the horses were away, switched off my blues and moved into the lane protecting the horse box. I despise townies.
