    I’ve had two hydro minnows and both seems to have water leaked into it causing what I assume is rust buildup. The action is not good anymore and sliding the weight back and forth feels clunky. No bueno.

    I am married to the bone SP minnow and always had the best luck burning it sketchy fast. Anytime fishing is slow, it’s the only thing that catches because they can’t follow it to evaluate it. You get reactionary bites vs committed follows

    Go to the beach at dead low walk and observe the structure…make mental notes as you walk the beach

    If you can’t go during the day at low, use technology. Google earth has pictures from various dates that you can look through and see hard structure and sometimes predict where rips will form based on history.

    Could you please tell me how to set a circle hook when retrieving a live eel? I am doing something wrong and miss 50 percent of my bites. Thank you

  • @1RAYALLEN
    @1RAYALLEN26 күн бұрын

    Don’t set the hook. Slow retrieve and when you get a hit reel until you’re tight.

  • @kevinmedeiros9281
    @kevinmedeiros928126 күн бұрын

    Thank you for the response. I have not been setting the hook. I have just been slow reeling rod tip up when working the eel with slight twitching every once in a while. Once I feel the double tap of the fish bite,I try to lower the rod horizontally are reel in. The fis tend to either steal the eel or spit it out. It's driving me nuts. I am using a 8/0 or 9/0 owner tournament mutu hook. Not sure if it's too big or what the hell is going on

  • @1RAYALLEN
    @1RAYALLEN26 күн бұрын

    @@kevinmedeiros9281 I’ve been using a 6/0 or 7/0 solely because some hooks are too large to fit in the eye socket and I will cast the eel off. Make sure you snell your hook, that helps with hookup ratio. When I get a tap I generally lower my rod, wait a second for the fish to eat, then slowly reel until I feel the weight of the fish.

I love these podcasts I just started surf casting last year at 18 years old and without KZread I would not have nearly the amount of information I have with podcasts like surfcast podcast, SJ podcasts, uncle fish, etc. Thanks guys Keep it up!

    " Don't drive to these top shelf locations that you read about?" with all due respect to Mr. Skinner whom I will concede have caught more fish on his Bad days and twice on Sundays, than I ever did on my best of days, I have to push back on that statement just a little bit. A large Number of us that enjoy fishing for Stripe Bass and listen to this podcast aren't all bless with the time and or the access to what one would call premium striper habitat. I grew up in the South Bronx during the 70's and 80's. as a Kid my dad (when he had time and wasn't working) would take me to the nearest place in the Bronx where I could saltwater fish which was a place called City Island. (a place not known as a Striper hot spot). I believe that these Top shelf locations are that because of the environment needed to produce not just fish, but quality fish are all present in these locations. There aren't many of us out there fishing that can truly say " Just me and one other guy fish this spot ". I would consider that a blessing. Again, Hands down Mr. Skinner will out fish me any day of the week, but as someone who has to drive 45 minutes to just go to work each day, I personally don't have an issue with driving to a location like the Vinyard, Block or even Montauk to get access to premium public water.

    If I'm throwing top water I only check for weed every cast. There is always some light so it just has to be glanced at. Bucktails or Weighted soft plastics if I felt any kind of hit or rock I check it all. Have you ever been stalked by someone trying to find your spots. I have and now if I think I'm being followed I pull over or make a few turns to see or I will go to the busiest most know obvious spots first and then disappear.
