Thank you! We really appreciate it! We did make the press and we do sell them 😉 as far as the Glowforge….. we’ve upgraded to a thunder laser as well, and it’s superior in every way, but the price tag is out of control but for us, it was worth it. That being said we’ve used a cheap $200 Sculpfun S6, for simple engraving it’s ok, but if you need a laser I would try to spend as much as your budget would allow, you generally get what you pay for in lasers. As a bookbinder an professional carpinter I also make my own tools. To anyone who makes their tools: avoid finishing wood with oilbased products. You'll regret it even after a long time it seems to be 'dry'. But, white paper grabs on any oily stain. So don't ruin your book even before you have started it. Traditionally, there is no finishing on bookbinding tools. Use wood with no resin content , like almost any hardwood.

First thing to know about Baltic Birch is that it is only available in metric sheet sizes. Nominal 3/4” is actually only 18mm, not 19.05mm (3/4”) The thickest I’ve seen is 40mm which is 1.57” thick. All the local hardwood suppliers carry common thicknesses to 18mm but can usually order the thicker stuff. The issue there is there may be minimum order quantities required to make it worthwhile for the dealer. 32mm, about 1 1/4” is common for work surfaces and is sometimes on hand, but you have to call around to see who has some at any given moment as inventories can change daily.
