great video thank for the info., here in the UK I have found power up to 4.0. as you suggested I have different ones and use the high power ones as a magnifying glasses.
M eye's are getting bad , if I got to go through all this knock me the fuck out .
Someone please tell me if Macular edema could cause hearing problems?? My right eye has CME & my right ear can’t hear…. Why? Why?
macular edema will not cause hearing problems....however they may be related. macula edema could be caused by some type of systemic disease and I assume hearing issues might also.
Thanks for your reply. I’ll have it checked asap. Stay blessed.
My caterat surgery caused astigmatism
some people can end up with unexpected astigmatism after surgery
Thank you so much ! I didn't know Astigmatism could be in several places . I always thought it was just the shape of the eye ,and yes they said football. Thanks so much!
Glad I could help
I like the way you phase your questions. We need to learn how to ask questions to the AI to make it more useful.
Yes we do
This was great, thankyou. Do you have a video on what aspheric (and bi/double) aspheric lenses really are, and if/when you you need them? Thankyou.
i don't have a video on that...yet
I wear glasses all the time and they are transition also. My normal sunglasses that are ray ban are polarised also though. Do they do these in transition and polarised? Or is that not a good idea in all day glasses?
You can get Transition polarized but they are not completely clear indoors
Hmm ok. Will look into it. Thanks
Thank you for a great video! I am going in for my first eye this week and the second eye a week afterward. I am in my 70s and have been soaking up as much information that I can find. Yours is a valuable addition to what I have learned so far. Still scared, but looking forward to better vision. They found my cataracts 15+ years ago, but I didn't know how much they affected my vision until I went for an exam and new glasses recently. I made the decision many yrs ago, so I went in for a consultation immediately.
Best of luck!
The lens quality is better with prescription. Your actual dual PD is used, not a generic PD. He is just giving facts. Otc cheaper isn’t better as there are otc with pretty good lens that cost a bit more. Cheap ones are great to take anywhere because if you lose them, its no big deal. I got a pair from Zenni, a bit of math involved. But when ordering your progressive glasses using your prescription, they offer adding a a pair as a single, and do the math for you. In your order view later you can view the prescription that was used for the single. My left eye was 2.50 and right was 2.25. Otc can’t do that. Its a personal choice. I actually like being able to have some engraving done on the frames that can be engraved. I’m a fan of prescription and otc. My last frames from the eye doctors didn’t last long as they were the less expensive frames they offered. Sturdy frames are best. After cataract surgery didn’t need glasses to drive. But wanted a pair that i could wear while shopping. I couldn’t see paying a lot. My Zenni ones that were my back ups right now are my main and only. They arrived a day before the eye dr’s office called to let me know my glasses with them were there. I don’t mind waiting.

"Fascinating Process" is hardly what I would call it. About as fascinating as a heart attack.
i feel a heart attack is pretty fascinating
Thanks for the video
Our pleasure!
I have cataracts which cause blur in my left eye lights bother me light flashes and floaters. So this surgeon said try dye eye drops and that the government won’t pay as they have to be really bad So I’m wondering will other surgeon do this surgery as I will have to pay for it ?just wondering
I can't really comment on your specific case
Interesting information, but summary table at the end would have been great.
Noted!
You have just convinced me to NOT have cataract surgery. I'm 70 yo and have dry eye disease and low pressure in my left eye with cataracts in both.
i see
Cataracts do not clear up by themselves. They only get worse.
@@lorireece1930 that is correct
Woke up this morning and freaked out. Blood in the eye. Never had that before. Im a senior. But i had hard sneezing from an allergy attack and itchy eyes. Rubbed them too hard. Now i understand. Thanks for the great video.
glad it could help
I took the monofocal lens in both eyes. since I frequently drive at night and wanted absolutely the clearest vision possible. I also did not mind to wear glasses for near vision it was not a problem for me. Just getting something that was lighter than the thick heavy glasses for the extreme far sightedness I had was what I aimed for. The IOLs I got exceeded by a large margin exceeded my own expectations as I had better then 20/20 vision int he right eye and 20/25 in the left eye. I still wear glasses but don't need them at all for driving and even for my computer that I have the habit of sitting about 4 feet away. I expected that was going to need some glasses and expected at least +1.50 for both eyes for distance and what I got was no correction int he right eye and a +0.25 in the left for distance. Sure I do need a correction for reading and it is +2.25. Oh yeah I am a 66 year old male. The biggest thing is ask the question and be sure you get the answers completely by the doctor and listen to their advice. I am so glad I did. This was not the first time I had gone through this as my wife 7 years ago had her cataract surgery and I did a lot reading and searching the internet for her as she was already displaying signs of dementia when she got her cataract surgery. I made sure that she got what she wanted and it ended up that after testing and measuring she was not a candidate for the other lens available and so she and the doctor decided it was best she have the monofocal lens for her and she was mostly satisfied with the outcome.

I have had my cataract surgery in March 2024 and I had slight astigmatism in both eyes. Seems the right eye was the lens and the left eye had both the lens and cornea. Well post operative the right eye has no astigmatism and the right a very little 0.75. I got lucky as I also had far sightedness with a +6.00 in the right and the a +6.25 in the left. What I got after for the corrective lens I wear anyway is no correction for distance in the right eye and a +.0.25 in the left eye. I only wear glasses just so I can read without getting the reading glasses on and off all the time which I found annoying. So many measurements and it was a lot as they did test everything but since I did not mind if I had to wear glasses the doctor and I agreed the Medicare covered lens were the way go I am so glad that the cheapest option was the best for my case. Now that being said I can sayI am just one patient that it worked great for. Side note I had always wondered what it would be like to have light weight glasses as I worn those dang heavy glasses for over 63 years, now I know what a light weight pair of glasses are.

Very informative video! thank you so much for sharing your experience and your professional view! 😊 I am waiting for mine to arrive. Really hoping they will increase the video duration limit to 5 or 10 minutes. That would cover all my use cases.
Glad it was helpful!

yup
If you just have one I done with a monofocal and you only have to wear readers what about the other eye that you don't get done that needs how does work
I am not sure what you are asking
Thanks this vedio, by Dr. Michael Nelson was excellent information I will update when it get better
Glad it was helpful!
How can the doctor determine if you have astigmatism in your inside lens if that lens is already compromised by cataract?
there is technology that can do that
It's so nice and well in theory. In practice, things can go wrong in so many ways.
everyone is unique
I have a stigmatism and I’m getting cataract surgery in one eye only. I’ve decided to get as Tori’c lens are closer distances. I understand I have to pick a certain exact distance. I read at 18 inches and I play piano at 24 inches as well as computer. When I teach piano I am 40 inches away. I would like to know if the lens corrected precisely to a certain amount of inches, how much further each direction, closer and further away, does it still help your vision?
I would talk to your optometrist
Torn between gen s and xtractive
if sunglass is priority get xtraactive. If having clear lenses indoor is a priority get GenS
@@GoodOptometryMorning just ordered the one with xtractive. Thanks.
I really don’t like the sound effects. They’re very annoying. Otherwise, good videos.
gotcha
My cataract surgery was 2 months ago. Vision was adversely affected immediately. Had laser removal of sme scaring and extra reounds of steroid and NSAID drops. OCT scan show macular edema . Next, perfusion studies. But I am extremely anxious about any more proceedures. I just want my vision back. This is really taking it's toll on me.
thanks for sharing. Wishing you well
I’m in the same boat. Botched cataract surgery has left me with floaters and blurry vision in right eye. I also had uveitis a month ago, prednisone drops helped at that time but still not completely clear. I also was diagnosed with cystoid macular edema (CME) .. & now hear muffled sounds from the right ear, my ear is clogged as if i it has water in it. Maybe I can only hear 20% from the affected ear. Was referred to a retina specialist by on OD. This is very frustrating. Poor vision and now compromised hearing!!!
My mom had cataract surgery a month ago. She still can’t see clear. Is this normal??
I depends...sorry I can't really comment on a specific case

Transitions Gen S don't get darker than Gen 8. The only difference is the speed of change, a nice step forward in the right direction after 5 years but far from a game changer.
Gen S actually do get slightly darker than Gen 8. They do it faster and get darker in warm climates
@@GoodOptometryMorning Interesting, I just watched a video from (use my frame) and both gen 8 and gen S reached the same level of 6% light transmission.
I had an astigmatism in both eyes. I had the Clareon Toric IOLs in both and now see better than 20/20 and am at 20/15 in both. I have to have readers for small print. I decided to wear my glasses with clear, non-prescription lenses except for the lower part which has a reader prescription. The Clareon toric lenses give incredible clarity, the "wow factor" being something which makes the surgery well worth it. Thank you for the explanation on a cornea astigmatism vs one in the lens. It was news to me!
Thanks for sharing your experience with Clareon IOL's
I wonder what Dr's opinion is about MYOCARE, released from Ziess. They said 80%effects. I wanted to check the fact, but Ziess did not open the report in my country.... I heard the reason that they didn't get a certificate in my country.
good to know!

Thank you for answering my question about best lens. I’m looking for the best brand and lens for sunglasses used for golf.
Happy to help! A number of companies have 'golf' lenses. Here is my opinion, the best golf sunglass is not the same for everyone. It depends on what you are looking for. Are you trying to see you ball in the air better, are you trying to read the greens better, do you want something more comfortable, do you want to read you scorecard etc etc. I lot of people are looking for a golf tint to help them read the greens better and personally i feel it is a little bit of hype..first of all for most of us we are not good enough putters to make the putt even if you had the correct read. And if you are good enough you probably don't need tints to help you- look at if most of the pros read greens with sunglasses on or off. Find something that fits great and a tint you enjoy.
Thanks for your reply. I want to see the ball flight and I realize that the type of day, sunny vs cloudy, changes the tint needed. I’m looking for a scratch resistant quality lens for both regular glasses and sunglasses. I would appreciate your brand recommendation. Thanks again!
@@dblarue8611 yeah i think it can depend on the a blue sky or overcast sky and the colour of your ball. But if you want to track you ball in the sky you want to maximize contrast. So if blue sky you want a ball that is opposite to the sky and that would be yellow and then have a tint that blocks blue light and lets yellow through..that would be amber or brown.
What is the best material and brand for sunglasses used for golf?
I tried to answer in previous post

He's right, progressives SUCK for computer work. It's the smallest zone on the lens. So you end up needing to buy a second pair for the computer. Which begs the question, if you use a computer all day, why not just get one full frame distance pair and one for closeup computer work.
the problem with Single vision distance is that in everyday life you will like to see upclose and the trouble with Single visino computer glasses is that the range is too small. Everyone could benefit from 3 sets of specs a progressive, an office/task lens and a progressive sunglass.
wow thank you so much! i was overwhelmed with my choices. appreciate this!
Glad it was helpful!
Glad to watch this. Very comforting. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
I got my prescription by a doctor and ordered a pair of multifocals (I understand they are progressive ones) and a pair with office lenses. With both glasses the short distance vision works some what ok... similarly or just a bit worse than molded plastic cheapo market reading lenses. But, other distances, neither of the glasses really improve my vision in comparison to not wearing glasses at all. The optics shop insists "You have to get used to them." Now I wonder, how much better is it not to see properly with glasses that I paid hundreds for in comparison to me already being used not to see properly with no glasses at all? Can the glasses be examined by a third party to detect if the glasses actually are made according to the prescription? I guess having the prescription verified would be much more straight forward to do. I don't get this "getting used to" business to begin with. When I put +2.5 super market reading glasses on, the difference between with and without glasses is clear like a day and night: without those glasses can't read anything, with the glasses I can read everything. Why is the difference not clear like the same way with longer distance zones of the lenses? I really have to put the glasses on and off multiple times and still can't really decide if I see better with or without the glasses. The same goes for both multi focals and office lenses. This is REALLY a tricky world for a consumer.
I agree that you shouldn't have to "get used" to progressives. You may have to learn how to use them and learn what they do and don't do. But 'getting used to' is usually used by opticals who use entry level quality optics progressives and what you need to get used to is poor optics. They are hoping you will just settle and leave them alone...but really they should offer you the option to go into a better quaility lens.
If i will be using these lenses and then getting the number of my eye checked through machine. Will it be shown temporarily low. Will the machine show 0 refractive error if i have worn these lenses a night back in case of -2.5 cyl power

What is the success rate for toric monofocal IOLs?
Very high.
I'm not seeing in the show notes the citations to the research papers mentioned?
Oh yeah forgot to do that.
Just added the citations. Thanks for wathcing and for the reminder.
