    I had an astigmatism in both eyes. I had the Clareon Toric IOLs in both and now see better than 20/20 and am at 20/15 in both. I have to have readers for small print. I decided to wear my glasses with clear, non-prescription lenses except for the lower part which has a reader prescription. The Clareon toric lenses give incredible clarity, the "wow factor" being something which makes the surgery well worth it. Thank you for the explanation on a cornea astigmatism vs one in the lens. It was news to me!

    My astigmatism is sphere -1.25 & cylinder + 1.25. I had cataract surgery March 5th and received the LAL+. Could you talk about how astigmatism is corrected for with this IOL? I am still healing and awaiting my first light treatments.

    Thank you so much for your explanation. I heard that having cataract surgery ( or any eye surgery) can cause induced astigmatism. Is this true ? Is a correction calculated before surgery?

  • @GoodOptometryMorning

    @GoodOptometryMorning

    cataract surgery itself would not induce any astigmatism

    I have moderate astigmatism (Right eye: -2.5, Left eye: -2.0). Can I select regular IOL instead of Toric lenses when having cataract surgery then use eye glasses to correct astigmatism. Thank you.

    Thanks for this video. I went for a cataract consultation and the doctor proposed the thing that you mentioned for correcting my minor astigmatism: a surgical cut on the cornea. Somehow it sounds less intimidating the way you put it.

    I have had my cataract surgery in March 2024 and I had slight astigmatism in both eyes. Seems the right eye was the lens and the left eye had both the lens and cornea. Well post operative the right eye has no astigmatism and the right a very little 0.75. I got lucky as I also had far sightedness with a +6.00 in the right and the a +6.25 in the left. What I got after for the corrective lens I wear anyway is no correction for distance in the right eye and a +.0.25 in the left eye. I only wear glasses just so I can read without getting the reading glasses on and off all the time which I found annoying. So many measurements and it was a lot as they did test everything but since I did not mind if I had to wear glasses the doctor and I agreed the Medicare covered lens were the way go I am so glad that the cheapest option was the best for my case. Now that being said I can sayI am just one patient that it worked great for. Side note I had always wondered what it would be like to have light weight glasses as I worn those dang heavy glasses for over 63 years, now I know what a light weight pair of glasses are.

    Hey excuse me can astigmatism cause double vision? If Lasik surgery corrects my astigmatism will my double vision go away? My doctor told me i have an uncorrected refractive error known as astigmatism and that's the reason why I have diplopia. Thank you if you reply me back.

    Hello! May I ask you a question? Would I be able to just wear normal contact lenses if I have mild astigmatism? My Left eye power is -0.25 then CYL is -1.00x165 My Right eye power is -0.75 then CYL is -0.50x175 I’m planning on using this nontoric, no prescription colored contacts, and then wear my prescription glasses over for a custom party. Would that be safe to do? Hope to hear from you! Thank you! Great video! :)

    I'm having cataract surgery and doctor says I have irregular astigmatism and would not benefit from lenses other than monofocal. I've worn toric monovision soft contacts for years. Any advice?

    I have really bad astigmatism (football shaped cornea). I was told one eye has reached the point where I qualify for cataract surgery. After the exam, the doctor said I had so many issues (dry eye disease, recurrent corneal erosion, and saccades - from a brain injury) that he couldn’t correct my astigmatism and cataract. He told me to come back in a tear to look at the other eye. Does this mean I am destined to go blind?

    For over 40 years I had excellent vision, usually testing at 20/15 on an eye chart, but in my mid-40's my close-up vision went (presbyopia) and I also developed an astigmatism in each eye (also, the axis of the astigmatism is is slightly different in each eye) so now I wear glasses all the time, with a progressive prescription that corrects the astigmatism at all distances and allows me to see (sort-of) close up. Since my natural lens is no longer doing its job I figured I could get replacement lenses like for cataract surgery, but my eye doctor says I have to wait for cataracts to develop first. WHY? There is a simple surgery with a piece of technology that will correct both my focusing ability and my astigmatism, but I have to wait for my vision to get even worse before I can get it fixed, that makes no sense to me at all. My husband had to go through this a few years ago: for nearly two years he had progressively worsening cataracts, his vision got worse and worse, then (finally!) they replaced the cataracts and he now has 20/20 vision, why did he have to suffer with worsening vision for two years before the surgeon was willing to replace the cataracts? Were they hoping he would die first or something? It's not like the cataracts are going to spontaneously go away. Sorry if this rant seems personally directed, it's not, I'm just venting general frustration.

    you can do 'cataract' surgeon on someone that does not have cataracts that are affecting vision. It is called clear lens exchange.
