So yes I found the problem, it was a wiring terminal in front of the left front wheel that had gotten damaged. It was part of the thermostat system that tells the car it's cold and that it needs to heat the engine with the glow plugs. If you have the same issue as I did you will have no temperature read out on the dashboard and you can always check to see if any wiring is damaged in that location. I hope this helps and all the best sorting your problem. 👍

No my car isn't new enough to need the brake depressing before ignition. In the end this problem was a combination of my starter motor being old and worn out, which I replaced, and I also had a broken wire terminal on the front left of the car underneath where the fog lights are which I found out was part of the exterior temperature sensor circuit. Basically my car didn't know what temperature it was so it wasn't turning my glow plugs on, after fixing this it worked perfectly. I knew it had to be a glow plug related issue because it only started to be problematic when it got cold. I hope this helps, any questions feel free and I'll do my best to help out.
@@gavinfromyavin will have a look at the glow plugs and see if that sorts it. Thanks again, appreciate the help 👍
@@JF-kq9ox I'd recommend changing the plugs if you haven't already, then if that doesn't work then glow plug relay. Hope you get it sorted soon!
Voice is to quiet. Camera is to shakey. Disappointed🙄
why don't you actually do work on a car that's worth doing work on? or get a new car? your constantly trying to fix a shit old car and getting nowhere
Well I did actually get somewhere and it's running perfect now, and I love my car that's why I work on it!
@@gavinfromyavin what was the fix
What do you drive dipshit a dodge? Saabs are turbo 4 cly that will snap your neck with power.
Lets be honest your channel is pointless i came here to try to fix my own car that is a Saab but you dont even fix anything here your just showing pointless shit everyone can do so just delete your crap channel because there isnt anything logical twat
Well if you look at the title of the video it's "how to: change your starter motor" which I show step by step so if you expect more than that what the title suggests then you're going to be disappointed obviously 😂
Awesome. Vid. Handsome ginger person too
I'm hoping that he will get me more views 😂
@@gavinfromyavin I'm hoping I'll get more from you :D
What millage had your car done when this problem started? How many miles have you owned this saab and has this been the only major issue?
My car is on 176,000 miles so I think it's been doing pretty well considering. The only other major problem I had was the alternator going on it about 2 or 3 years ago. And if I remember right it was on about 120,000 miles when I got it.
Clever work.
Work smarter not harder eh?
good video
Cheers just working my way through all the possibilities
I would start by measuring voltage and grounds at the glow plugs module
Ive seen codes for the ECU and other stuff, and he suggested EGR !!
Definitely wasn't the EGR, I tested the glow plugs by hot-wiring them and it started instantly so it's definitely a fault on the glow plug circuit
Iv had a glow plug gone in my van for 5 yrs. Its slow to start on cold days but only if very cold like winter time. Even then its nothing like as bad as your sick saab.
Your only missing 1, I haven't got any glow plugs working in mine 😂
@@gavinfromyavin that's not ideal then. Did it start OK in warm weather as you don't need the plugs working much then.
@@Sparkplugsteve it started but not well, I think it might be a couple of things so I'm still investigating
Glow plugs stopping it start. Not Egr imo
Id replace the egr valve. It's probably broken and jammed closed.
Was going to replace it at a later date, this was more diagnostics than anything. But I agree I think it's a glow plugs issue.
