    So yes I found the problem, it was a wiring terminal in front of the left front wheel that had gotten damaged. It was part of the thermostat system that tells the car it's cold and that it needs to heat the engine with the glow plugs. If you have the same issue as I did you will have no temperature read out on the dashboard and you can always check to see if any wiring is damaged in that location. I hope this helps and all the best sorting your problem. 👍

    Nice vid ... but not sure I'd want to be putting a C3 oil in an engine the manufacturer doesn't specify it for. A3/B4 gives more hot, dynamic-viscosity protection at the cost of some additional fuel consumption. C2/3 oils are low dynamic-viscosity oils that save fuel but provide less protection - and are usually specified for later year engines.

    Did mine today - before I found this video - the only socket I didn't have was 32mm so had to go & get one, & another video I saw said the sump bolt was 15mm so that miffed me a bit to start with. Have never changed the oil/filter on a Saab before, a bit different to an Essex v6... wasn't sure how the filter all went together but got there in the end. I followed the manual & attached a pipe to the drain tube which was worth doing. I sussed the access to the filter & it definitely helps to have the right kit for the job. Hopefully it's all gone well & saved me a wedge of cash... £65 quid for 5L of oil, filter, air and pollen filter from Europarts (I'm in the UK) and a few hours of time - can't be bad. I was quoted £60 just to change the pollen filter... less than 5 mins work. Keep up the good work - enjoyed the video. I wore nitrex gloves, but the oil still got everywhere!

  • @eioleseda99
    @eioleseda994 жыл бұрын

    Right now wires are connected directly without terminal box and at dashboard it shows correct temperature. Terminal box fell to the ground one day and was broken. That's why I connected wires straight together. But mine problem with starting issues was before temp wires was broken and later on also. Still I guess I will check wires again at this weekend. At next week I'll have new starter and hopefully changing it will fix my faulty car.

  • @gavinfromyavin
    @gavinfromyavin4 жыл бұрын

    @@eioleseda99 yeah my terminal broke so I soldered the wires, once the temperature gauge was showing the right temp it started fine. Apparently the glow plugs only come on below certain temperatures so the sensor being broken meant I was getting no heating in the cylinder from the plugs causing starting issues.

    Problem with EGR is that it is getting dirty quickly. The diesel engines needs to be driven quite long not to get the EGR valve clogged up. If a person only drives short distances the code p0400 will appear quite often :(

    Hey, I had similar problems with my 2006 Saab a few hours ago. It was struggling to start, then when it did start it only idled for a few seconds then cut out. The third time it idled but when the throttle is pressed it did not rev. So I left it running for 5 minutes and there was smoke coming from the engine bay but when I gave it a rev it sprung into life and the smoke disappeared. Before it revved it sounded like it was chugging, sort of when a 4 cylinder is only running on 3 cylinders. It's just ticked over 186000 miles, I'm guessing egr but I might be wrong. Hope you got yours sorted buddy. Thanks for the upload 👍👍

    So I had a broken wiring loom under my left fog lamp, it's part of the external temperature sensor circuit. • @gavinfromyavin
    @gavinfromyavin2 жыл бұрын

    @@skyfisting So the wiring loom is for the external thermometer, basically if that is broken then the car doesn't know what the temperature is and the glow plugs are only programmed to come on below a certain temperature, I think its like 10° and below. So basically the the car is not getting the info it needs to let the glow plugs start heating the block before trying to start which is causing the starting issues.

  • @gavinfromyavin
    @gavinfromyavin5 жыл бұрын

    No my car isn't new enough to need the brake depressing before ignition. In the end this problem was a combination of my starter motor being old and worn out, which I replaced, and I also had a broken wire terminal on the front left of the car underneath where the fog lights are which I found out was part of the exterior temperature sensor circuit. Basically my car didn't know what temperature it was so it wasn't turning my glow plugs on, after fixing this it worked perfectly. I knew it had to be a glow plug related issue because it only started to be problematic when it got cold. I hope this helps, any questions feel free and I'll do my best to help out.
