Thanks for this video. I'm a mixed-American (non-Asian) and once I made chilli oil from scratch after watching a few videos but wanted to try buying it since its a lot of work and will fragrant up my entire apartment for a good week when I do this. Since I don't use chilli oil daily or even weekly, I figured this time I'll buy something already made. I keep seeing all this hype for Fly By Jing, so I figured I'd give it a try. There's an H-Mart literally down the street in Cedar Park, TX (Austin, TX area) so of course I'm always excited to go and stock up on all my Asian condiments and ingredients - they last me a good year + I have to watch myself with cooking Asian food because I can easily get ADDICTED - all forms of Asian food and if I start eating it daily I don't think I can eat anything else! SO MUCH flavor in Asian food - YUM!

After this video, we have gone to LaoGanMa almost exclusively. It's subtle enough to not change the food too much. If you want something spicy, I would get a bottle from @chilicrispsforspicylips. They produce fresh and crispy hot oil. Super spicy, but very fragrant and delicious! Thanks for the comment! I love Austin. I know many Texans don't!

Thankfully all of the MSG scare was bs (for the most part). For Me (Imo) Laoganma is the goat. It's hard to beat if you're looking for an Umami bomb that won't burn your face off. I out Laoganma on probably 1/3rd of everything I eat lol.

Thanks for the review! I often buy the momofuku, and like the fly by jing. I want to start making my own chili crunch, and I like the sweetness of the momfuku (I feel like it makes it a little more versatile for different cuisines), but like the heat of sichuan peppercorns. So hearing your thoughts on different store bought versions is helping me decide on how I want to go about preparing some of the ingredients and which ones I want to incorporate together for my own personalized version.

I tried the fly by jing flavor and I didnt like the funky sludge in it. I dont think they drain the black beans. I figured out how to make the lao gan ma at home. You have to soak the beans and rinse them and then everything gets cooked separately before being combined in the flavored oil.

Fly By Jing is good but way overpriced, probably due to all the marketing and hype they've done for it. Momofuku is also overpriced and quite bland honestly. Laoganma hits the sweet spot in flavor and price.

Long shot - and bump from 2 years in the future - but if I LOVE the Momofuku Chili Crunch, will I like the S&B?
@JaesonHanNotJasonHan Жыл бұрын
S&B is a much different profile. It adds more unique flavor whereas the Momofuku wasn't so complex. Neither is better, but depending on the food, you might choose one or the other. For fried rice that isn't too flavorful, I would choose the S&B. For a Lo Mein, the Momofuku. It's a cheap buy, so I'd say experiment!
