First comment here, I'm a self taught pianist (15 years) and I'm trying to learn this piece so I know how incredibly difficult it is to play it both technically AND musically, I must say this a very good version (I listened at least 10 different pianists to compare and get some nuances)

Class of '88 YSM - wow - nice to see familiar spaces, and amazed at some of the newer facilities. Beautiful - will have to visit sometime soon.

He was a wonderful person, awesome cellist and painter. I loved my chamber music classes with him. He did a painting for me of the Mendessohn Quartet. I wish I had framed it rather than worn it....out. I fondly recall our concert in the Boathouse performing the Bachianas Brasilianas with many, many cellists!

I wonder if the Enigma quote right off the bat in bar 1 was intentional, that melodic contour seems to be used throughout the piece so I feel it has to be intentional. Great piece, and I love the string orchestra version the Yale Philharmonia did! Bravo.

I love the music for this Opera I can't stop listening to it is so beautiful and not all operas have beautiful music I think a good opera needs to have a good libreto in very good music in this one has both very much sounds like magical realism which has I think what they were trying to do

28:00 No mention of the #1 most important health & safety aspect of music students which is hearing damage. Ask any ear doctor and they will immediately quote rising rates of hearing damage due to ear fatigue from younger & younger demographics due to ever louder music, increase in headphone use, and increase in city noise so the ear never gets rest. The data is well known and well studied in medical publications. Yet music departments spend no time, zero time, educating students on hearing damage, how to use hearing protection, and never have dB meters in rehearsals even when loud instruments such as brass horns & drums are included in ensembles. Music departments should spend the first several weeks of every class on safety training the same way that a Chemistry class spends several weeks of every class on Laboratory safety, with students not allowed to participate until successfully passing the mandatory Laboratory safety quiz. Music instructors will be the first to crank the amplification in a rehearsal or insist that students play louder.. the music instructors themselves often have permanent hearing damage and tinnitus. Why is this being ignored in music education especially when the medical science is 110% clear on causality ?

U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Cindy Marten? Does she know that textbook publishers are raping students with digital subscription-only textbooks which can't ever be owned and expire after as little as 6 weeks even after paying full textbook prices? Students can't get an education when textbooks are not accessible before class begins and expire immediately after class ends, let alone the full and ever-increasing prices the textbook publishers are charging. Meanwhile textbook writing and content quality continues to decrease to lower and lower common denominators. The U.S. government should also be investigating textbook publishers in order to bust their monopoly.
