Actually i have the bigger pro series but still.Junk. I've burned through 3 of those and now the new model has had an auger malfunction 2 times causing a tube fire. The version you have there I went through 5 control boards before they warrantied the whole thing. The new one was junk too. Went through 3 control boards on that one. Got the new model 6 months ago. Worked great for about 10 runs then melted down. They sent an auger motor even though it's badly damaged from the fire in the hopper. It ran 4 times and it happened again. These smokers were great. Then they got popular and they farmed out the manufacturing to a cheaper 3rd world country and now they are garbage

the El Guapo shirt is killing me! LMAO!! I've been trying to do offset myself but I'm having trouble mastering it most times I'm getting a bitter sooty after taste even though I'm letting the dirty white smoke clear out before adding the meat. Still have my pellet smoker but not giving up on my offset.

I just got an off set so been watching alot of videos, saw a guy last night use his vertical pellet grill as a fire wood kiln. I got my small pieces just like yours from 14 to 10 percent moisture. Thought it was interesting, what internal temp do you go to on your ribs?

I also have a pit boss vertical pellet smoker but looking for something new. Any suggestions for flavor? I would like to stay in the pellet arena but feel like I need more space than what my vertical offers.

I've always dreamed of owning an offset. It's obviously a little more work to keep things steady, but on long cooks I find myself hanging out with my pellet grill anyway. One of my concerns is sourcing wood splits and the cost. I see the local hardware store sells them in bags but have a feeling I'd go through a whole bag with one long cook. About how many do you go through on a long cook, e.g. a pork butt or brisket?

  • @WeekendWarriorBBQ

Finding quality cooking wood can be a challenge for many reasons but the biggest one is that the firewood suppliers only sell the good stuff to their restaurant customers. The companies who will sell it to you are geared towards people who heat their homes. I typically order my cooking firewood from Butler Wood. It’s expensive but you get high quality firewood. 1/4 cord lasts me about 9 months. In this smoker I go through 2 full size splits every 45 minutes or so once I have a nice coal bed established. So you can estimate from there.

not sure if everyone would agree with me but it would seem like doing an offset or a charcoal grill you can use your wood type when you are cooking and control how long you want to continue using that smoke flavoring for, of course my opinion

I have a lot of grills and smokers. I don't have a pellet "smoker". Don't want one. I can use my Napoleon gas grill with a smoke tube if I want to simulate a pellet smoker. Offset smoker FTW guys! Get the best one you can afford. They're more work but the results are worth it.

Ya that’s cool it’s a natural progression. I figured I would go that direction someday but the Pit Boss was the tool I’ve used to get me in the hobby. So now I guess I’ll keep a subscription to your channel so I can get some tips for the day I do the same thing 😂😂 that’s an amazing offset brother!!

Mike, always love your videos. My Pit Boss vertical to a dive on me...i plan of fixing it because it is an awesome way to smoke...but I am enjoying my barrel smoker this summer too. Puts some amazing smoke on anything I am smoking. But your offset from LoneStar Grills is next level...bullet proof andout of my humble price range. But your good fortune is a blessing to us all as we get to see how you use and navigate that beautiful legacy smoker.

Damn I need that bigger Pit Boss 😂I’m still loving my 3 series but I have to cut racks in half to fit them in the smaller trays and I can only smoke 4 racks of short ribs at a time. We throw a lot of parties so I think it may be time for an upgrade! My smoker is in great shape I should sell it 😂
