My channel is all about cars. When I'm working on cars I'll attempt to make the videos clear and easy to follow so that anyone even with little experience can begin to learn and take care of their car. I will include videos on drives all over the country that I take and how to videos on service items that I may be doing. It's all about having fun in the garage and out on the road!

  • @jimsgaragetoys
    @jimsgaragetoys10 күн бұрын

    The reason you don't is that the pads can drag even with the caliper pistons pushed in as far as possible. The only way you could use both is after some pad thickness has worn down. The shim manufactures say not to use both shims. If you aren't tracking the car the OEM shims should be just fine.

They said they haven’t heard a case where the two metals have galvanized etc Video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/YpqmzdF_edq6oqg.htmlsi=hgnlopN6Oz4BDHxd I might try and use both on my worn OEM pads first and see how it feels before I throw in the endless

    @@bbb4019 The OEM shims are very thin while the titanium shims are much thicker. I'm sure that pad thickness will vary depending on manufacturer but with the Endless pads they wouldn't fit with both. If we had forced them in the wheels wouldn't have even turned due to the friction of the pads against the rotors.

Is there a reset of some kind that needs to be done? It's connected to the power source so what might I have missed or should I still check?

  • @jimsgaragetoys
    @jimsgaragetoys10 күн бұрын

    I just cleaned it with small detailing pads, like stiffer Q-tips that I buy from Griot's Garage to clean hard to reach places and I used some Simple Green cleaner. It did the trick quickly on each blade. The fan doesn't always run but not having everything put back together might also prevent it from coming on. There may be a sensor that knows it's not enclosed but I'm not sure. There are only a couple of connections so I would install everything back together and see how things are working. If there's a problem you will get a message or CEL that something is wrong with the battery cooling system. No messages, all is working as intended. Just make sure the few connections are all reconnected.

    Thank you, I appreciate that! I find the ride to be firm but comfortable and not bothersome. I've had 2 back surgeries over the years and I had no issues on this 5300 mile road trip. This was the first time I've ever used Amsoil. I got a friend that is a big believer in it and is always telling me to try it so I finally agreed to do so. I'm a big fan of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and that's what I've always run on my cars. I might try compare them to each other and send in used oil for testing. Both should be fine since the GRC calls for more frequent oil changes so the oil will most likely be fine on both at the 6 month mark when I change it.

    U aren't going to pull "an Amsoil" & change oil at 10,000 miles or more, are you? First time I disagree with you, if u do. I am anti AMSOIL because that Texan brags about how long between oil changes. Then he adds all those additives.🙄 I suggest Valvoline Restore & Protect. I saw it on the "Oil Geek" & he speaks "the Gospel" on oil. I'm just a 71yr "ole" guy who owns a measly Prius that runs Toyota oil (even over Mobil 1) & I KNOW they're SUPPOSE to be the same, but Mobil is more yellow in color & I feel engine will look more "varnished" as it gets older. All my opinion. I take it your ICE is at least direct injection, but dual injection? That's why the "catch can"? I have low miles on my car, but am considering using that Valvoline occasionally. (And I'm not a Valvoline fan). Nothing personal, I have a certificate from General Motors Chevrolet Division, had HS auto shop, owned some muscle cars, & have worked on my cars for decades. I DID notice how clean your oil WAS draining it. All your cars are IMMACULATE & I always agree with all u do, so hope not to offend. I just love Toyotas.✌️🤓👍

  • @jimsgaragetoys
    @jimsgaragetoys9 күн бұрын

    I never run 10k mile oil change intervals. All of these oils now brag about how long they can go and I could care less. The GR Corolla calls for a 5k mile/6 month oil change at normal use and 2500 miles for severe service. I'm a big fan of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and use that on my cars but I was curious about the Amsoil due to the fact that item have a 0w-30 that I wanted to try in my 2009 Corolla Turbo S and I'm curious to try it in my GR Corolla too as I feel that 0w-20 is just too thin for a turbo engine. I'm not a fan of Mobil 1 or Toyota OEM oil as it hasn't tested very well when compared to other oils. In fact, the Toyota OEM formulation was down right poor in its additive package. The Amsoil has a good additive package but there were others that had more but were less effective. I told my daughters to use the Valvoline Restore and Protect on their cars that they bought used and have higher miles since we don't know the maintenance schedule they had. I run an OCC on many of my cars, even my Prius as it's been shown to work very well on a Prius. Preventing that junk from being routed back into the intake and dunking it up pays dividends. No worries, I'm not offended. I'm not against trying different things and I know that Amsoil is a quality oil but I'm not doing any crazy long oil change intervals! Thanks for reaching out!

The original owner never changed ecvt fluid and the car currently has 101,780 miles on it, mainly northern California freeway miles. Would it be a bad idea to change the fluid with 101,780 miles? @@jimsgaragetoys appreciate the quick reply, thank you so much. Sorry about all the questions but I just bought the car for my wife and want it to last as long as possible with timely maintenance. She was driving a 2009 Kia Sportage that has just been a huge money pit and I was done putting money into it. So the previous owner of the ct200h didn’t want to pay the extravagant amount that Lexus was charging for the 100k scheduled service. He only did the oil change and didn’t do the initial coolant exchange and the tire rotation like it’s scheduled. Right now it’s sitting at 101,780 miles, would it be ok to do the coolant exchange, ecvt drain and fill, oil change, and tire rotation when it hits 105,000 miles? Also, after getting all of that done, would this schedule be good to follow for the next times around? Every 60k miles for the coolant change, every 30k miles for the ecvt drain and fill, every 5000 miles for oil change and tire rotation. By the way, we live in Vegas so I’ve always followed the severe scheduled maintenance for all of my vehicles. So far so good with my 2014 pathfinder, but I’ve already had a transaxle replaced at 80k miles and now it’s needing a new subframe at 108k miles. Once the pathfinder is on its last legs I plan to get a 2014-2019 Lexus GX 460. Does anyone know the allowed difference in diameter between tires on our car? I have aftermarket wheel/tires, 25.3" diameter, this 135/70 spare is 25.5". Thankd for the helpful video. Ive been pretty nervousr driving this car without a spare.

  • @jimsgaragetoys
    @jimsgaragetoys16 күн бұрын

    I've been trying to find a definitive answer to that same question myself. I went with this size because my sock 235/40R18 is 25.4" in diameter and this 135/70R18 is the exact same diameter. At some point I wouldn't mind going to a 245/40R18 but the diameter is 25.7" making this spare 1.2% smaller. I'm not sure if that is within the range of being okay or not but I keep looking for an answer. At least this is the exact same size for now so no worries for now.

    I'm running 265/35 at 25.3 dia and online calc says 135/40 is 25.5 so was hoping it close enough. I think it's only a 0.8% diff in dia. I've read up to 3% is ok on some AWD systems. I would guess we could look up other Toyota AWD cars and see what they run for spares, but I fear they also don't have spares but these dumb slime kits. I'm likely to grab a plug kit in the meantime. Let me know if you find anything out! Thx for the videos, cheers! @@jimsgaragetoys

    @@LifeSOSlive When I just looked it up it shows me the 265/35R18 is 25.3" and the 135/70R18 spare is 25.4" so the spare is only 0.4% larger so I would think that would be within any tolerance.

  • @LifeSOSlive
    @LifeSOSlive15 күн бұрын

    Aahh yes! I used a diff calculator and got your same measurements! In think you're likely right, that's much less than 1% dia difference so I would hope that's ok. @@jimsgaragetoys

I'm only running 8.5psi since I'm on stock internals but it added 100bhp and transformed the car. It's so much more fun to drive now as I've also done a lot of work on the chassis, brakes, and suspension too. It's a well rounded car now and I love it. I miss my 89 SC! 😥 I had mine from '93 until 2005. GC coilovers, Cusco plates, modified the supercharger system, relocated the battery to the front, etc. I was moving from NM out to NC and decided to sell instead of putting it into storage. The guy that bought it apparently wrecked it someplace in Texas. I should have told him to get lost when he said he was going to undo the mods. My poor baby...

    That's a bummer. I can't imagine how hard it would have been to sell. When the day comes I'll only sell it to someone that I feel will truly care for it as I have. Where in NM are you from? I was just there visiting family and friends. I live in WA State now but I drive down every year.

    @@jimsgaragetoys It was really hard, it was definitely my #2 favorite toy. #1 is a '24 4Runner. I was stationed at Kirtland, went to S. Korea for a year and then they threw me down at Holloman. Could have been worse I guess, like being stuck with Cannon. lol. After I got out, I traveled/moved between NM, VT, FL, DE, CO, and NC. Quite a few of those trips were in that MR2. I live in Florida now, but I spend time in SC and up at my folks in VT when its warm enough. I still have friends in the Albuquerque area and might head out there sometime later this year, or in the next spring time. I'm setting the 4Runner up for road trips and camping. If you ever decide to sell yours, let me know! Maybe by then I'll settle down a bit more and have a good place to keep her safe. lol

I talked with Gerald San Agustin many years ago about his twincharged car. He said during the article they wrote about his car, he had it detuned to around 350hp. He said with proper balancing, etc. that you could squeeze about 500-550 hp out of the 4A-GZE while still retaining reliability.
